By Their Fruits, part two
God will not be mocked.
It was just days after what some are calling, quite rightly, “Bloody Friday,” in the once Catholic country of Ireland that God visited the City of London, England, with over 20,000 lighting strikes on Saturday evening, May 26, 2018, Whit Saturday and the Commemoration of Saint Philip Neri and of Pope Saint Eleutherius, and Sunday morning, Trinity Sunday and the Commemoration of Saint Bede the Venerable. Particularly affected by these strikes was Stansted Airport, which is where the Irish version of Southwest Airlines, Ryanair, is based in England.
This is quite interesting given the fact that Irish women who want to kill their babies still have to travel to London to do so until their government, led by a sodomite Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, can pass legislation in compliance with the overwhelming vote in favor of repealing Ireland’s Eighth Amendment on Friday, May 25, 2018, Whit Friday and the Commemoration of Pope Saint Gregory VII and Pope Saint Urban I. They could not do so during the lightning strikes, which came as many of the apostate Irish were “celebrating” their vote in favor of slaughtering the innocent preborn, and Irish nationals who work in London but had returned to Dublin to cast their votes four days ago found themselves caught up in delays caused by the lightning strikes:
For the second time in two months, thousands of passengers hoping to fly to and from Stansted Airport over a bank holiday weekend have had their travel plans wrecked.
The overnight thunderstorms and lightning strikes damaged equipment essential for pumping fuel to the aircraft stands. The problem meant that the first wave of flights, which normally starts just before 6am, was delayed.
Many passengers experienced delays of four hours or more. One Jet2 flight to Tenerife is running 10 hours late.
The majority of problems are on Ryanair, which is by far the biggest operator at Stansted — its main base.
Inbound aircraft were ordered to divert because there was no room on stands at Stansted. Flights landed at other London airports, including Luton and Southend, as well as East Midlands.
By 9am Ryanair had started cancelling flights, initially the return legs of aircraft that had been diverted. Departures to Barcelona, Bratislava, Cork, Dublin and Pisa were initially grounded.
Joanne Hickey from Ruislip arrived at Stansted with her family at 6am for an 8.15am flight to Barcelona on Ryanair. The inbound aircraft was diverted to Luton and returned empty to Spain, leaving nearly 200 passengers stranded at Stansted – many of them joining a queue which extended all the way back to International Arrivals. . . .
Stansted Airport issued a statement saying: “Due to an earlier lightning strike, the aircraft fuelling system was unavailable for a period this morning. Engineers have been on site and have now restored the system, however flights may still be subject to diversion, delay or cancellation.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and advise all passengers to check with their airlines for their latest flight updates.
The day was expected to be especially busy with families beginning half-term holidays and Irish citizens returning to London after casting their votes in the referendum on reform of abortion laws.
Passengers whose flights are cancelled, diverted or severely delayed are entitled to meals and, if necessary, accommodation at the airline’s expense until they can reach their destination.
Over Easter, 20,000 passengers were stranded when a car park shuttle bus caught fire outside the terminal in Stansted. After the resulting evacuation, dozens of flights were cancelled. (Lightning Strikes.)
This is just a down payment on the chastisements that are ahead for the Irish in the years ahead. Just a down payment.
God will not be mocked, and He has plenty of chastisements in store for us all to get sinful men to quit our sins and to return to Him though His true Catholic Church, not the counterfeit entity that presents itself as the Catholic Church.
Alas, men who lack the true Faith cannot read the signs of the times. “Modern man” these days is prone to blame “global warming” and Donald John Trump for the cascade of natural catastrophes that seem to make the headlines on almost daily basis. Almost no one is willing to realize that God is chastising us for our sins.
It is no accident at all that the “Big Island” of Hawaii is experiencing the wrath of God as volcanic ash, sulfur dioxide and flowing lava continue to devastate various parts of the State of Hawaii’s largest island, including Leilani Estates, which can be best described as the “Fire Island” of the Pacific. (In other words, decadent descendants of the decadent inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah have long colonized themselves in Leilani Estates.) Even those who are attempting to be faithful Catholics will—and have—suffered from the lava flowing from underground volcanic vents even before Mount Kilauea erupted. Such Catholics see the hand of God in such occurrences. Many native Hawaiians and others around the world blame a mythical goddess, Pele, for being “angry.”
Yes, the world, much like Ireland in microcosm, has returned to the paganism and/or barbarism that existed in every land until its people were converted to the sweet yoke of the Cross of the Divine Redeemer, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This is what happened in Europe during the First Millennium and it is what happened in the Americas and parts of Africa and Asia in the Second Millennium. As noted a few days ago, conciliarism has robbed men of the true Catholic Faith and of the Sanctifying Grace that they need to sanctify and thus to save their immortal souls.
The world lacks the authoritative voice of a true and legitimate Successor of Saint Peter to call men to repentance and to use, whenever necessary, his authority to discipline the wayward sheep in no uncertain terms. Such a true shepherd would have warned Irish Catholics before the referendum to repeal their country’s Eighth Amendment five days ago, and he would have disciplined them as follows for their vote in favor of permitting the surgical slaughter of the innocent preborn:
We exhorted you, sons and daughters of Saint Patrick, who converted your land from the pagan superstitions of barbarism to the glories of the true Faith, to refrain from taking into your own hands that which belongs to the Creator and Lord of us all, the absolute inviolability of all innocent human life. You have spurned our paternal efforts to call you to correction by reminding you that finite creatures who do not did not create themselves and whose mortal bodies are destined for the corruption to the grave can never arrogate unto themselves the authority to untether themselves from the binding precepts of God’s Holy Laws, including those of the Fifth Commandment. You have chosen the Master of Lies and Prince of Darkness and have rejected the Lord of all life, natural and supernatural, Himself. You have rejected Christ the King and have cried out loudly and overwhelming in favor of Barabbas.
One can come to a principled opposition to the taking of innocent human life on the basis of reason alone unaided by the light of the Divine Revelation that has been entrusted by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ exclusively to the Catholic Church He Himself founded upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope. Some of the pagan physicians and philosophers of ancient Greece and Rome were able to conclude that the taking of innocent human life in the womb was prohibited by the precepts of the Natural Law. Hippocrates did so in his Hippocratic Oath, which was changed many medical colleges and universities in the 1970s and thereafter:
I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.
I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.
The Roman playwright Juvenal, who lived in the early Second Century A.D. and was fierce hater of Christians, had this to say about the crime of the murder of innocent preborn children:
So great is the skill, so powerful the drugs, of the abortionist, paid to murder mankind within the womb. Ancient History Sourcebook: Juvenal: Satire VI
Even a proto-feminist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who organized the first "women's rights" conference in Seneca Falls, New York, in 1848, referred to abortion as "disgusting and degrading crime," going on to write:
When you consider that women have been treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit. (Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Letter to Julia Ward Howe, October 16, 1873, recorded in Howe's diary at Harvard University Library.)
Yes, it is possible by reason alone to come to recognize that a child, an innocent preborn human being, is the natural fruit of human conjugal relations.
It is an accident if one falls down a flight of stairs.
It is an accident if the motor vehicle one is driving goes out of control on an icy road.
It is not an "accident" if a child is conceived as the result of human conjugal relations.
To invade the sanctuary of the womb, therefore, in order to suck out, burn, slice or otherwise destroy a living human being is opposed to the very laws of nature itself. And if the child inside a mother's womb is not alive, why is it necessary to kill it? As to the child's humanity, you see, even secular science has proved that every fertilized embryonic human being has a distinctive DNA of his very own that does not change over the course of his life. All that is added, physically and temporally speaking, is time and nutrition.
Holy Mother Church has condemned the barbaric practice of child-killing dating back to Apostolic times:
"The way of light, then, is as follows. If anyone desires to travel to the appointed place, he must be zealous in his works. The knowledge, therefore, which is given to us for the purpose of walking in this way, is the following....Thou shalt not slay the child by procuring abortion; nor, again, shalt thou destroy it after it is born" (Letter of Barnabas 19 [A.D. 74] ). The Letter of Barnabas
"Thou shalt not use magic. Thou shalt not use witchcraft; for he says, ‘You shall not suffer a witch to live’ [Ex. 22:18]. Thou shall not slay thy child by causing abortion, nor kill that which is begotten. . . . [I]f it be slain, [it] shall be avenged, as being unjustly destroyed" (Apostolic Constitutions 7:3 [A.D. 400] ). The Apostolic Constitutions
On therapeutic abortion:
And therefore the following question may be very carefully inquired into and discussed by learned men, though I do not know whether it is in man's power to resolve it: At what time the infant begins to live in the womb: whether life exists in a latent form before it manifests itself in the motions of the living being. To deny that the young who are cut out limb by limb from the womb, lest if they were left there dead the mother should die too, have never been alive, seems too audacious. Now, from the time that a man begins to live, from that time it is possible for him to die. And if he die, wheresoever death may overtake him, I cannot discover on what principle he can be denied an interest in the resurrection of the dead. -Enchiridion 23.86
Therefore brothers, you see how perverse they are and hastening wickedness, who are immature, they seek abortion of the conception before the birth; they are those who tell us, "I do not see that which you say must be believed." - Sermon 126, line 12 Augustine of Hippo (354-430)
Why sow where the ground makes it its care to destroy the fruit? where there are many efforts at abortion? where there is murder before the birth? for even the harlot thou dost not let continue a mere harlot, but makest her a murderer also. You see how drunkenness leads to whoredom, whoredom to adultery, adultery to murder; or rather something even worse than murder. For I have no name to give it, since it does not take off the thing born, but prevents its being born. Why then dost thou abuse the gift of God, and fight with His laws, and follow after what is a curse as if a blessing, and make the chamber of procreation a chamber for murder, and arm the woman that was given for childbearing unto slaughter? For with a view to drawing more money by being agreeable and an object of longing to her lovers, even this she is not backward to do, so heaping upon thy head a great pile of fire. For even if the daring deed be hers, yet the causing of it is thine. Hence too come idolatries, since many, with a view to become acceptable, devise incantations, and libations, and love potions, and countless other plans. Yet still after such great unseemliness, after slaughters, after idolatries, the thing [fornication] seems to belong to things indifferent, aye, and to many that have wives, too. -Homily 24 on Romans John Chrysostom (347-407)
You may see many women widows before wedded, who try to conceal their miserable fall by a lying garb. Unless they are betrayed by swelling wombs or by the crying of their infants, they walk abroad with tripping feet and heads in the air. Some go so far as to take potions, that they may insure barrenness, and thus murder human beings almost before their conception. Some, when they find themselves with child through their sin, use drugs to procure abortion, and when (as often happens) they die with their offspring, they enter the lower world laden with the guilt not only of adultery against Christ but also of suicide and child murder. - Epistula 22 Jerome (347-420)
Indeed there are those women who cut off the word prematurely born/aborted, before they give birth, there are those who have Christ in the womb but they will not yet have formed (him), to whom it is said: my children, whom I desire to bring forth again and again until Christ be formed in you. Expositio evangelii secundum Lucam, lib. 10, line 252 [private translation]
But why the eye or the hand, since the aborted child has both a hand and an eye which has already been formed? -Ambrose, Expositio evangelii secundum Lucam, lib. 10, line 283 [private translation]
And elsewhere the same Ecclesiastes, being an old man, guarded him better whom his mother had cast out by abortion, because he did not see these bad things which they make in this world, he neither came into these shadows nor walked in vanity, and for that reason he who did not come into this life will have more of a rest than he who came. - De bono mortis, cap 2, par. 4, line 11
The poor get rid of their small children by exposure and denying them when they are discovered. But the rich also, so that their wealth will not be more divided, deny their children [when they are] in the womb and with all the force of parricide, they kill the beings of their wombs [while they are] in the same fruitful womb. In this way life is taken away from them before it has been given. -Hexameron V.18.58 [private translation] Ambrose (c.340-397)
To Anfilochius, Bishop of Iconia:
She who has intentionally destroyed [the fetus] is subject to the penalty corresponding to a homicide. For us, there is no scrutinizing between the formed and unformed [fetus]; here truly justice is made not only for the unborn but also with reference to the person who is attentive only to himself/herself since so many women generally die for this very reason. -First Letter 2
Canon II.
Let her that procures abortion undergo ten years' penance, whether the embryo were perfectly formed, or not. - The First Canonical Epistle of Our Holy Father Basil, Archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia to Amphilochius, Bishop of Iconium.
…those who give the abortifacients and those who take the poisons are guilty of homicide. -First Letter 8 Basil (c.329-379)
That the unborn child is alive:
How are they dead unless they were first alive? But still in the womb an infant by necessary cruelty is killed when lying twisted at the womb's mouth he prevents birth and is a matricide unless he dies. Therefore there is among the arms of physicians an instrument by which with a rotary movement the genital parts are first opened, then with a cervical instrument the interior members are slaughtered with careful judgment by a blunt barb, so that the whole criminal deed is extracted with a violent delivery. There is also the bronze needle by which the throat - cutting is carried out by a robbery in the dark; this instrument is called and embryo knife from its function of infanticide, as it is deadly for the living infant.
This Hippocrates taught, and Asclepiades, and Erasistratus and Herophilus, the dissector of adults, and the milder Soranos himself, - all of them certain that a living being had been conceived and so deploring the most unhappy infancy of one of this kind who had first to be killed lest a live woman be rent apart. Of this necessity of crime, Hicesius, I believe did not doubt, as he added souls to those being born from blows of cold air, because the word itself for "soul" among the Greek relates to such a cooling. - De Anima 25.5 - 6
They [John and Jesus] were both alive while still in the womb. Elizabeth rejoiced as the infant leaped in her womb; Mary glorifies the Lord because Christ within inspired her. Each mother recognizes her child and each is known by her child who is alive, being not merely souls but also spirits. Tertullian (c.160-240) - De Anima 26.4
Council of Elvira (c. 305)
Canon 68: If a catechumen should conceive by an adulterer, and should procure the death of the child, she can be baptized only at the end of her life.
Council of Ancyra (314)
Canon 21: Women who prostitute themselves, and who kill the child thus begotten, or who try to destroy them when in their wombs, are by ancient law excommunicated to the end of their lives. We, however, have softened their punishment and condemned them to the various appointed degrees of penance for ten years. Quotes from Early Councils
The Lord's Teaching to the Heathen by the Twelve Apostles:
1 There are two ways, one of life and one of death; and between the two ways there is a great difference.
2 Now, this is the way of life:…
The second commandment of the Teaching: "Do not murder; do not commit adultery"; do not corrupt boys; do not fornicate; "do not steal"; do not practice magic; do not go in for sorcery; do not murder a child by abortion or kill a newborn infant. "Do not covet your neighbor's property; do not commit perjury; do not bear false witness"; do not slander; do not bear grudges. Do not be double-minded or double-tongued, for a double tongue is "a deadly snare." Your words shall not be dishonest or hollow, but substantiated by action. Do not be greedy or extortionate or hypocritical or malicious or arrogant. Do not plot against your neighbor. Do not hate anybody; but reprove some, pray for others, and still others love more than your own life. Didache: The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles
Your contemptuous—neigh well contemptible—rejection of what the pagans and the Holy Fathers themselves condemned has earned you, inheritors of such a great spiritual patrimony that, nothing but the opprobrious disfavor of Christ the King. Although our paternal heart is not inclined to severity, your overwhelming vote in favor of another of the four sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance calls for the imposition of a penal remedy.
It is hereby decreed that an interdict is to be placed upon the inhabitants of the Republic of Ireland to go into effect in thirty days.
Your bishops and pastors will read this letter from their pulpits for four consecutive Sundays.
This decree of interdiction will be stayed if you come to your senses and repeal your criminal endorsement of the absurdity known as “same sex” marriage and restore the Eighth Amendment’s legal protections to the innocent preborn.
While it is regrettable that the innocent among you will suffer with the guilty, your rejection of the binding precepts of the Divine and Natural Laws leaves Us no choice. We will not suffer men possessed of an iniquitous spirit to approach the Communion rail to receive Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in His Real Presence at Holy Communion sacrilegiously.
Remember well, Ireland, this prayer of Saint Patrick, your father in the Faith whose teaching you have scorned in favor of the pursuits of modern day hedonism and heathenism:
I bind to myself today the strong virtue of the Invocation of the Trinity: I believe the Trinity in the Unity, The Creator of the Universe.
I bind to myself today the virtue of the Incarnation of Christ with His Baptism, the virtue of His crucifixion with His burial, the virtue of His Resurrection with His Ascension, the virtue of His coming on the Judgment Day.
I bind to myself today the virtue of the love of seraphim, in the obedience of angels, in the hope of resurrection unto reward, in prayers of Patriarchs, in predictions of Prophets, in preaching of Apostles, in faith of Confessors, in purity of holy Virgins, in deeds of righteous men.
I bind to myself today the power of Heaven, the light of the sun, the brightness of the moon, the splendour of fire, the flashing of lightning, the swiftness of wind, the depth of sea, the stability of earth, the compactness of rocks.
I bind to myself today God’s power to guide me, God’s might to uphold me, God’s wisdom to teach me, God’s eye to watch me, God’s ear to hear me, God’s word to give me speech, God’s hand to guide me, God’s way to lie before me, God’s shield to shelter me, God’s Host to secure me, against the snares of demons, against the seductions of vices, against the lusts of nature, against everyone who meditates injury to me, whether far or near, whether few or with many.
I invoke today all these virtues against every hostile merciless power which may assail my body and my soul, against the incantations of false prophets, against the black laws of heathenism, against the false laws of heresy, against the deceits of idolatry, against the spells of women, and smiths, and druids, against every knowledge that binds the soul of man.
Christ, protect me today against every poison, against burning, against drowning, against death-wound, that I may receive abundant reward.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ within me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ at my right, Christ at my left, Christ in the fort, Christ in the chariot seat, Christ in the [deck], Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks to me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
I bind to myself today the strong virtue of an invocation of the Trinity: I believe the Trinity in the Unity, The Creator of the Universe.
Begging the intercession of Our Lady of Knock, Saint Joseph, Saint Patrick and all the Irish saints and blesseds, We pray that Ireland will return to her Catholic roots as the true Faith, Catholicism, is the only means of human salvation and thus of a genuine social order, which must be premised upon the pursuit of the common temporal good in light of man’s Last End.
Gone are the days when we had true popes, no less popes who were courageous enough to place interdicts on nations, and gone are the days when our true popes exhorted Catholics to defend the Catholic Faith when it is under attack by the forces of the world, the flesh and the devil:
But with what bitterness and in how many guises war has been waged against the Church it would be ill-timed now to urge. From the fact that it has been vouchsafed to human reason to snatch from nature, through the investigations of science, many of her treasured secrets and to apply them befittingly to the divers requirements of life, men have become possessed with so arrogant a sense of their own powers as already to consider themselves able to banish from social life the authority and empire of God. Led away by this delusion, they make over to human nature the dominion of which they think God has been despoiled; from nature, they maintain, we must seek the principle and rule of all truth; from nature, they aver, alone spring, and to it should be referred, all the duties that religious feeling prompts. Hence, they deny all revelation from on high, and all fealty due to the Christian teaching of morals as well as all obedience to the Church, and they go so far as to deny her power of making laws and exercising every other kind of right, even disallowing the Church any place among the civil institutions of the commonweal. These men aspire unjustly, and with their might strive, to gain control over public affairs and lay hands on the rudder of the State, in order that the legislation may the more easily be adapted to these principles, and the morals of the people influenced in accordance with them. Whence it comes to pass that in many countries Catholicism is either openly assailed or else secretly interfered with, full impunity being granted to the most pernicious doctrines, while the public profession of Christian truth is shackled oftentimes with manifold constraints.
Under such evil circumstances therefore, each one is bound in conscience to watch over himself, taking all means possible to preserve the faith inviolate in the depths of his soul, avoiding all risks, and arming himself on all occasions, especially against the various specious sophisms rife among non-believers. In order to safeguard this virtue of faith in its integrity, We declare it to be very profitable and consistent with the requirements of the time, that each one, according to the measure of his capacity and intelligence, should make a deep study of Christian doctrine, and imbue his mind with as perfect a knowledge as may be of those matters that are interwoven with religion and lie within the range of reason. And as it is necessary that faith should not only abide untarnished in the soul, but should grow with ever painstaking increase, the suppliant and humble entreaty of the apostles ought constantly to be addressed to God: "Increase our faith.''
But in this same matter, touching Christian faith, there are other duties whose exact and religious observance, necessary at all times in the interests of eternal salvation, become more especially so in these our days. Amid such reckless and widespread folly of opinion, it is, as We have said, the office of the Church to undertake the defense of truth and uproot errors from the mind, and this charge has to be at all times sacredly observed by her, seeing that the honor of God and the salvation of men are confided to her keeping. But, when necessity compels, not those only who are invested with power of rule are bound to safeguard the integrity of faith, but, as St. Thomas maintains: "Each one is under obligation to show forth his faith, either to instruct and encourage others of the faithful, or to repel the attacks of unbelievers.'' To recoil before an enemy, or to keep silence when from all sides such clamors are raised against truth, is the part of a man either devoid of character or who entertains doubt as to the truth of what he professes to believe. In both cases such mode of behaving is base and is insulting to God, and both are incompatible with the salvation of mankind. This kind of conduct is profitable only to the enemies of the faith, for nothing emboldens the wicked so greatly as the lack of courage on the part of the good. Moreover, want of vigor on the part of Christians is so much the more blameworthy, as not seldom little would be needed on their part to bring to naught false charges and refute erroneous opinions, and by always exerting themselves more strenuously they might reckon upon being successful. After all, no one can be prevented from putting forth that strength of soul which is the characteristic of true Christians, and very frequently by such display of courage our enemies lose heart and their designs are thwarted. Christians are, moreover, born for combat, whereof the greater the vehemence, the more assured, God aiding, the triumph: "Have confidence; I have overcome the world." Nor is there any ground for alleging that Jesus Christ, the Guardian and Champion of the Church, needs not in any manner the help of men. Power certainly is not wanting to Him, but in His loving kindness He would assign to us a share in obtaining and applying the fruits of salvation procured through His grace.
The chief elements of this duty consist in professing openly and unflinchingly the Catholic doctrine, and in propagating it to the utmost of our power. For, as is often said, with the greatest truth, there is nothing so hurtful to Christian wisdom as that it should not be known, since it possesses, when loyally received, inherent power to drive away error. So soon as Catholic truth is apprehended by a simple and unprejudiced soul, reason yields assent. (Pope Leo XIII, Sapientiae Christianae, January 10, 1890.)
Nations must return to the superstitions of paganism and the murderous, satanic practices of barbarism when men lose the Catholic Faith en masse as happened during over the course of time following the Protestant Revolution. The formerly Catholic nations of Europe have returned to paganism and the ravages of barbarism as a result of the greatest chastisement that God has visited upon men in the history of salvation: a nearly universal interdict upon most Catholics alive in the world today, admitting that there are true priests in the conciliar structures who may be offering the modernized version of Immemorial Mass of Tradition and that most Eastern rite bishops and priests are valid.
This concession notwithstanding, however, the fact that is most Catholics alive today do not have access to true bishops or priests and thus of the true Sacraments. We are indeed being punished for our sins, and far, far worse chastisements than we have seen thus far will be made manifest in the years ahead.
It is instructive to contrast the chaos, hatred and violence of the present moment that has been engendered in no small measure by concilairism’s “reconciliation” with the anti-Incarnational Judeo-Masonic principles of Modernity with the example of the King of Castile and Leon, Saint Ferdinand III, a first cousin of Saint Louis IX, who always understood that he had to rule in a manner befitting Christ the King, to whom he would have to make an accounting for his stewardship over his subjects.
King Saint Ferdinand III was born in 1199, precisely one hundred years after the death of his famous ancestor, Rodrigo Diaz—El Cid, and God favored him with many important victories over political rivals in other Spanish kingdoms and, of course, against the Moors themselves. It was King Saint Ferdinand III who captured Cordoba in 1236 for Christ the King and His true Church.
In all conflicts, however, the only thing that mattered to King Saint Ferdinand III was to do the will of God and to restrain his own passions so that everything he did would be of God. He sought only the honor and glory of God, not his own.
Moreover, he sought to establish a just rule of law after he had conquered Seville on December 22, 1248, that was modeled on the one had had promulgated in Toledo. As one can see in the text quoted below, Saint Ferdinand III, whose feast was commemorated yesterday, May 30, which is the date on which I received my first Holy Communion in 1959 at Saint Aloysius Church in Great Neck, New York, from the hands of the late Father Robert E. Mason, sought to give honor and glory to the Most Blessed Trinity above all else. He was quite a contrast to the naturalists of the false opposites of the “right” and the “left” today whose minds are but a jumble of erroneous ideas and beliefs and whose souls are readily inclined to surrender to passionate, unrestrained anger and bitterness:
In addition to these plans, the King was simultaneously working, helped by his son Don Alfonso and his twelve councilors, on the great undertaking of unifying the laws. He wanted the Code of Laws of Seville to be finished when the kingdom representatives met.
He prayed much during those days and nights in which he studied, discussed and drew up the immortal document. One of the last discussions dealt with the style that should be used in writing the Code. The King, who was usually more concerned with the content than the language, until then had used the familiar style of daily conversation. His son Don Alfonso and his secretary Father Remondo insisted, however, that this code of law should be written with a great majesty proportional to the importance of the conquered city. “Also, Lord, know that in Rome the popes and the great princes use a higher form of language,” said the secretary.
The King smiles at their insistence, but since he like to follow the advice of prudent men, and the good Don Remondo was very prudent, he pleased him by using the serious and solemn “we.”
The King and his notary were both sitting at their work table, the latter with his pen in his hand ready to write. After a few moments of silent prayer during which he often made a great Sign of the Cross, the noble King of Castile and Leon began to dictate:
“In the name of Him Who is the true and everlasting God, Who in one God with the Son and with the Holy Ghost, and one Lord in Three Persons and one in substance; and Who gave us His glory; and if we believe this of Him and in His Son and in the Holy Ghost, then we believe in the true, everlasting god, and we adore the Three Persons, the unity in essence and the equality in the divinity; and in the name of this Trinity with which we begin and end all of the good deeds we perform, we call upon Him to be the beginning and the end of this our work. Amen.”
Don Ferdinand remained suspended for some time in ecstasy, unable to tear his soul from Him Who captivated it whenever He was invoked. Returning to his senses, he continued:
“All those who see this document should remember the great benefits, the great graces, the great favors, the great honors and the great happiness granted by Him Who is the beginning and source of all good, to all Christendom and especially to Castile and Leon in the days and the time of Don Ferdinand, who, by the grace of God, is King of Castile, of Toledo, of Leon, of Galicia, of Seville and of Jaen. All should understand and know that the many benefits He gave and showed to us Christians and against Moors are not because of our merits but because of His great kindness and His great mercy, and because of the intercession of the prayers and merits of Holy Mary, whose servant we are, and because, and because of the help she gave us with her blessed Son, and because of prayers and merits of St. James, whose lieutenant we are and whose standard we carry, and who always helped us to conquer and to do good, and who showed his favor to us and all our sons and our noblemen and our vassals, and all of the people of Spain, He made and ordered and ordained that we who are His knights, and through our labors and with the help and advice of Don Alfonso our first son, and Don Alfonso our brother, and our other sons, and with the help and advice of the other noblemen and our loyal vassals of Castile and Leon we conquered all of Andalusia for the service of God and the expansion of Christianity more generously and completely than it was conquered by any other king or man; and though He honored and showed great favor in the other conquests of Andalusia, we believe He showed us His grace and His favor more abundantly and more generously in the conquest of Seville, which we accomplished with His help and with His power, as Seville is greater and more noble than the other cities of Spain. And because of this, we, the King Don Ferdinand, servant and knight of Christ, because we received so many benefits and so many favors and in so many ways from Him Who is all good, we want, by right and reason, to share those benefits that God granted us with our vassals and with the prelates who inhabited Seville for us; and because of this, we, the King Don Ferdinand, joined by the Queen Dona Joan, our wife, and our sons Don Fadrique and Don Henry, we grant and give this Code of Law and these freedoms expressed in this document.”
He then proceeded to dictate the Code, copied from that of Toledo, which was celebrated by all for the many freedoms it granted. It first declares the rights of those who are knights and grants honors to those having a horse worth fifty marks giving them freedom from the King's service for at least eight months during the year. It continues by stating the privileges that would be enjoyed by those living in the suburb of the Francos, allowing then ample freedom to buy and sell without paying duties and exempting them from standing guard duty which, during those times without permanent armies, the citizens were obliged to serve. Further, they could not be obliged to lend money to the King by force, they were granted the honor of knighthood, and had the duty of forming an army for him on the same conditions as the men from Toledo.
It covers the area of the men of sea, first creating the post of mayor to be held by a man knowledgeable in the matters related the sailors' trade. Their litigation and common offenses were to be judged by the mayors of Seville, but if those involved did not agree with the sentence, the mayor has “to look for six good men knowledgeable in the Code of 'sea laws' and review the litigation with them, notifying the plaintiff of what they believed to be right; and if the plaintiff does not like the judgment agreed upon by the mayor and those six good men, let his appeal to us.” Afterward, it made the same concessions to the sailors as it had to those in the suburb of Francos in respect to selling, buying and trading.
After giving them the honor of knighthood, the code determined the conditions of their service, which reads as follows: “The are obliged to serve the King with their ships and their weapons for three months. If the King needs them for a longer tour, he shall pay them.” This obligation of forming an army on the sea spared them the obligation of serving on land, with the exception that it should be for the town's benefit, in which case they were required to serve with the others. As see, the ships were equivalent to horses in the King's mind, and his son and successor used the same criteria when he says, “The ships are the riding animals of those who go by sea just as the horses are for those who go by land.” It also granted them the right to have a butcher's shop in their suburb with the duties paid by the King.
And lastly, it orders all of the inhabitants of Seville, knights, merchants, and sailors, to pay him ten percent from the gardens and farms on the surrounding lands of the Guadalquiver “as this . . . is our right. And we order that from the bread and the wine and the cattle and from all the other things, you pay your due obligation to the Church as it is done in Toledo.” The code ends by threatening he who dares decrease the freedoms of that code of law with “provoking the wrath of God and my own,” and ordering him to “pay to us and to whoever reigns after us one hundred marks of gold.” (Sister Maria del Carmen Fernandez de Castro Cabeza A.C.J., The Life of the Very Noble King of Castile and Leon Saint Fernando III, pp. 267-270.)
This is the kind of justice lacking in a world that has overthrown the Social Reign of Christ the King. This is the kind of justice that even the conciliar revolutionaries reject precisely because it was based upon the very face of expanding Christendom and of governing according the teaching of Christ the King as He had revealed Himself exclusively to men through His true Church, the Catholic Church. It is because this kind of justice—Catholic justice according to the mind of Christ the King—is lacking today that once proudly Catholic Ireland has fallen into the abyss along with the rest of the so-called “civilized” world.
