Many Pathways to Advance The Killing of Bodies and Souls
Several recent articles (Chronicling the Adversary's Global Takeover of the Healthcare Industry, Attack Dogmatic Truth, Open the Doors Wide for George Soros, Finding Nuance Where There Is No Nuance to be Found, and Truth Is Not On the Side of GOSH and Its Conciliar Enablers) on this site have dealt with the death-dealing that takes place under the guise of “health care” in the United States of America and around the world. This is not to mention the thirty articles that appeared on this site in February and March of 2005 that discussed the efforts on the part of Judge George Greer in Florida to order the execution of Mrs. Teresa Marie Schindler-Schiavo by means of dehydration and starvation that were later published in Restoring Christ as the King of All Nations, nor is it to mention the scores of articles about the medical industry’s manufactured, profit-making myth of “brain death” that have been published in the past ten years.
My concern about the medical industry’s utilitarian efforts to kill off the elderly as well as human beings who are chronically and/or terminally ill long antedates the debut of this website on February 20, 2004.
Indeed, it was while teaching an Introduction to Political Science course at Nassau Community College during the Spring 1983 Semester that I noted the rise of utilitarianism in England as one of the many consequences of the Protestant Revolution. I explained that socialized medicine in the United Kingdom was based on the costs of providing certain medical treatments, including surgery, to those over the age of sixty as weighed against the social “benefits” to derived from keeping a person alive whose life might cost more than he could “produce” if his life was “extended” by an “unnecessary” procedure.
For example, I noted to my students, socialized medicine in the United Kingdom would not pay for a sixty-year-old man’s coronary bypass surgery as he was beyond his “productive” years and would be more of a “drain” on national resources than he could replace by means of his work. Such a person could seek medical treatment in the United States of America or elsewhere if he had the means to secure it, but he could not obtain such treatment as a “benefit” of British socialized medicine.
The cold logic of utilitarianism is indifferent to the fact that those who can no longer “produce” or produce “enough” to “benefit” their nations economically are still human beings entitled to the love and care that we would render unto Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Himself. As Catholics, of course, we know that those who are considered “useless” by the high priests and priestesses of law, politics, culture, commerce and banking have an infinite worth in the eyes of God as He has endowed them with rational, immortal souls made unto His very own image and likeness. Moreover, those who are considered “useless” can prove themselves to be the most beneficial citizens of all as their patient endurance of suffering and their prayers for the living and the dead have an infinite worth that benefits men in this life and in the next for those who persevere until the end in a state of Sanctifying Grace as members of the Catholic Church.
We live, however, in the anti-Incarnational world of Modernity. As has been pointed out so many times in the past on this website, the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolution led to the overthrow of the Sovereignty of God over the sanctity and fecundity of marriage, which led to the acceptance of the surgical execution of the innocent preborn under the cover of the civil law. It is, as demonstrated by the words of an “ethicist” at the University of Chicago that were quoted in Truth Is Not On the Side of GOSH and Its Conciliar Enablers, the logical of baby-killing that is leading many in the so-called “civilized” world to advocate the killing of babies such as the late Charlie Gard after birth and to advocate openly for killing off of the chronically or terminally ill that is taking place presently under the cover of finding a “compassionate” “pathway” to death in hospices, nursing homes and hospitals in the United States of America and around the world (see Chronicling the Adversary's Global Takeover of the Healthcare Industry).
These facts are illustrated quite amply in a recent report in The Washington Times that was sent to me a few days ago by a friend:
A Nevada physician says insurance companies in states where assisted suicide is legal have refused to cover expensive, life-saving treatments for his patients but have offered to help them end their lives instead.
Brian Callister, associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Nevada, said he tried to transfer two patients to California and Oregon for procedures not performed at his hospital. Representatives from two different insurance companies denied those transfer requests by phone, he said.
“And in both cases, the insurance medical director said to me, ‘Brian, we’re not going to cover that procedure or the transfer, but would you consider assisted suicide?’ ” Dr. Callister told The Washington Times.
The phone calls took place last year within the span of a month, Dr. Callister said. He said he did nothing to prompt the suggestion in either case.
The patients were not terminal, but “would have become terminal without the procedures.”
“It was estimated that their chance for cure — cure, not just adding time — of about 50 percent in one case and 70 percent in the other case,” Dr. Callister said.
The allegation comes as more than a dozen states are actively considering legislation to legalize physician-assisted suicide, including Nevada, where Dr. Callister testified against the proposed bill on Monday.
In February, Washington became the sixth U.S. jurisdiction to enact such a law, joining California, Colorado, Oregon, Vermont and Washington state. The Montana Supreme Court has ruled that helping terminally ill patients to end their lives does not violate state law.
As part of a campaign to curb the trend, the Patients Rights Action Fund on Wednesday released a video featuring Dr. Callister.
“As much as most insurance companies try to come across as your best friend, they want to do whatever the least-costly thing is,” Dr. Callister says in the video. “It’s a lot cheaper to grab a couple of drugs, kill you, than it is to provide life-sustaining therapy. Simple as that.” ("Simple As That".)
Yes, it is as simple as that despite all of the perfunctory denials by representatives of insurance companies and hospitals.
What Dr. Brian Callister reported to The Washington Times represents part of a sub rosa effort to prepare the way for acceptance of forcibly euthanizing human beings by denying them treatments that could alleviate their pain and/or cure them entirely.
Remember, almost no one in the 1950s believed that the surgical execution of the innocent preborn would receive the sanction of the civil law. The logic of sentimentality and relativism is such, though, that the only standard by which one is supposed to live is one’s “convenience” at the expense of any kind of sacrifice, no less of a ready and humble submission to the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law.
Very few people in the United States of America gave any kind of thought to the news sixteen years ago that The Netherlands had granted de jure permission for what had long been a de facto practice there, namely, euthanasia. This is what I wrote in the printed pages of Christ or Chaos at the time:
The Netherlands has replaced Germany as the world’s leading laboratory for social engineering. The recent decision of the Dutch to “legalize” the killing of the elderly and the infirm and the chronically ill is simply the logical result of a set of forces that the Netherlands became home to following the defeat of Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich in May 1945.
The unification of the Germanic states into a single country as a result of Prussia’s victory in the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 ushered in the triumph of social engineering in northern Europe’s industrial and economic giant. Masterminded by the Freemason Otto von Bismarck, the “Iron Chancellor,” the social engineering that began in Germany during the Kulturkampf sought to create a brave new world where people would become more and more dependent upon the beneficence of the state. Bismarck knew that one of the ways to solidify political power was to create a sense of dependence on the part of the citizenry, who would become convinced that it was impossible for them to live their lives without the direction and largesse of government bureaucrats.
Bismarck’s Kulturkampf, which started off as a direct assault upon the Catholic Church (viewed by Bismarck as an obstacle to the social and economic advancement of human society), occurred at a time when two complementary schools of thought were coming to the fore: Darwinian evolutionism and the historical-critical method of Scriptural exegesis. The latter was designed by Protestant Scripture scholars in Germany as a means of “demythologizing” Scripture, a goal that dovetailed neatly with the agendas both of the Darwinians and of Hegelian philosophers who were intent on creating the illusion of change in the very nature of God Himself. The old way of religion had to yield to the new ways of progress and social advancement. And that social advancement would entail, among other things, the discarding of those who were economically unproductive and thus relatively useless for the life of society.
Bismarck was not as aggressive as his successors in Germany would be during the period of the Weimar Republic (1919-1933). However, he laid the groundwork for the sterilization and euthanasia policies that would be the hallmarks of both Weimar and the Third Reich. One of Bismarck’s principal legacies was the establishment of the modern welfare state, paving the way not only for the Weimar democrats and Hitler but also for V.I. Lenin and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Social Security was the crown jewel of Bismarck’s welfare state. For Bismarck desired to create a world where grown children believed that they were relieved of the natural-law responsibility to care for their elderly parents when they became incapable of caring for themselves. He wanted to rally the elderly to his side by making it appear as though he was their friend — and he wanted to do the same with the young, convincing them that he had made it possible for them to live a more comfortable life materially by relieving them of the “burden” of providing for their parents (never mind the nasty little fact that confiscatory taxes were used to pay for Social Security). Thus, Bismarck sought to pit generations against each other in preparation for the day when those who were retired could be deemed useless to society and thus worthy of liquidation. Bismarck relied upon the German traits of obedience to authority as the means by which he could convince the public that he, their chancellor, knew best.
Social scientists and natural scientists had a field day in Germany during the Weimar Republic. Yes, democratic Germany was home to scores of biological and eugenic experimentations. Science is a tool given us by God to use as a means of assisting the legitimate development of human progress in the natural world. Absent the direction provided it by the true Church, however, science can become a terrible weapon of destruction and of maniacal social and biological engineering. Thus, the fuller development in the Third Reich of the monstrous policies pursued during the Weimar Republic was quite logical. In 1939, the German populace quite docilely accepted Hitler’s implementation of the wholesale extermination of the retarded and infirm. Germans had become used to the principle that the state knew best. Only Clemens von Galen, the Bishop of Munster, had the courage to speak out publicly against Hitler’s eugenics policies.
(Obviously, Lenin and Stalin were playing their own monstrous games in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Psychiatry there became a tool of political reprogramming and raw terror. Social engineering is the very foundation of Marxism’s own brave new world. And the fact that the Bolsheviks had plenty of defenders in the West helps explain the triumph of the spirit of Bolshevism in almost every country in Western Europe, as well as in Canada and the United States.)
In the West, social engineering fell into a bit of disrepute in the wake of the Nuremberg Trials that followed World War II. However, in the Netherlands the groundwork was quietly being laid for a recrudescence of the utilitarianism that was the essence of the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich. The social engineers and eugenicists had taken over the Dutch universities and hospitals and laboratories. The positivists held sway in the courts and in the Staaten, the Dutch national legislature. And Modernists populated much of the Dutch Catholic hierarchy. Indeed, Modernist Dutch theologians even produced a best-selling catechism that was essentially a defense of the very trends developing in the Netherlands in the 1960s.
In that decade, the Netherlands became a playground for hallucinogenic drug use and promiscuity. It was one of the first nations in Europe to embrace every single bit of the sodomite agenda. And it is so radically pro-abortion that it is now the de facto policy in the Netherlands to permit parents to euthanize their newborn child up to a year after his birth, thus giving them from the moment of fertilization to one year after birth to take a crack at the fruit of their conjugal love. And it has been the de facto policy of the Dutch for some time to permit physicians to dispatch patients who are deemed to have outlived their usefulness in society (too old, too sick, too costly to maintain). What was once de facto is now de jure. Although no doctors in the Netherlands have been prosecuted for doing what was once technically illegal, they can now kill their patients with legal impunity.
As I have noted on a number of occasions, arguing against euthanasia on purely natural terms is no defense against the power of sentimentality to trump rational thought. A culture of well-being seeks to anesthetize pain and all other unpleasant realities. Why should a person suffer when the truth of redemptive suffering is rejected as either fantastic or as just simply unrealistic in our modern world? Those who believe that it is possible to combat the “mercy killers” with naturalistic arguments are as delusional as those who believe that a person who supports one abortion as a matter of principle is a defender of the sanctity of innocent human life.
Human suffering is one of the many consequences of Original Sin. Indeed, physical suffering and death are two of the very tangible consequences of Original Sin, as well as of our own actual sins. It is only the Catholic Faith that teaches the full truth concerning human suffering. And it is a rejection of the Catholic teaching on human suffering that has permitted sentimentality to triumph so mightily in the world, even among many Catholics who attend Mass every Sunday.
The Church teaches us that no suffering is beyond our capacity to bear by means of the graces won for us by the shedding of our Lord’s Most Precious Blood on Calvary.
Further, the Church teaches us that no human suffering — no matter how intense — is the equal of the pain that just one of our venial sins imposed upon our Lord in His Sacred Humanity on the wood of the Holy Cross. And she teaches us that our patient endurance of the sufferings we experience in our lifetimes can be the means by which we help the Poor Souls in Purgatory make satisfaction for the debt we owe as a result of our forgiven sins (and our general attachment to sin), and the means by which we can give exemplary witness to the world of the fact that we unite our sufferings with those of our Blessed Lord. Indeed, our patient endurance of suffering is one of the ways we prove our love for our Lord. Knowing that our Lord never permits us to endure any suffering beyond our capacity to endure equips us with the knowledge that the more suffering we are sent, the more we receive a sign of His love for us, that He expects us to do great things for Him and His Church by becoming co-redeemers of the world with Him.
A rejection of those simple truths results in the tyranny of the social engineers and the bioethicists (who don’t practice true biology and are not very ethical).
Why not kill “unwanted” babies?
Why not kill those who suffer?
Why not clone yourself?
Why not conceive a child in order to kill it and use its body parts to aid someone with Parkinson’s Disease?
Why can’t a woman who is sterile conceive a child by means of in vitro fertilization? Why can’t two people of the same gender who “love” one another get “married”? What’s wrong with surrogate motherhood?
Why can’t we use genetics to pick the sort of child we want? T
he very people who reject the authority of the Church in those matters look to secular “experts” to provide them with guidance, ironically conferring on those pseudo-experts a spirit of infallibility that is rejected as belonging to the Successor of Saint Peter and the bishops who are in full communion with him.
The Netherlands goes first where other nations follow. That has been true both ecclesiastically and civilly. And the state of Oregon is already the de jure euthanasia pioneer in the United States. The actual de facto practice in most hospitals in most places in this country is pretty much the same as it has been in the Netherlands. Doctors are liberally dispatching people as a matter of routine, making decisions that certain people have simply outlived their usefulness. That is over and above the instances where poorly formed people (or their families) actually ask to be killed. No, there are all types of “mysterious” deaths in hospitals these days as doctors and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) play God and make cost-benefit analyses as to a person’s “worth.”
It is no accident that the Netherlands is one of the leaders in utilitarian social engineering. At one time under the control of Catholic Spain, the Netherlands, like some other nations of Europe, eventually fell under the sway of Lutheranism and Calvinism. The Netherlands has long been home to relativists. After all, an essential tenet of Protestantism is that a person is saved if he makes a confession of faith in our Lord with his lips and in his heart. Nothing else matters after that profession of faith is made. There is no room for a theology of redemptive suffering in such a belief system. Protestantism rejects Purgatory as un-Scriptural. It contends that we do not prove our faith by good works. And it rejects the simple truth that we gain merit for our good works, merit that can be applied to the Poor Souls in Purgatory and help make expiation for the debt we owe our own forgiven sins. Why not annihilate yourself when pain becomes too severe? A “loving” God would understand that, wouldn’t He?
There is only one weapon that can stop the advance of the brave new world that has been evolving since the time of the Renaissance and the Protestant Revolt: the Cross of the Divine Redeemer. When are we going to learn that we cannot fight the culture of death without the weapon that brought us the possibility of eternal life? (“Land of Windmills and Murder,” from the printed pages of Christ or Chaos, February 6, 2001.)
The conciliar “bishops” of The Netherlands, who have long promoted the most ultra-progressive version of conciliarism imaginable, starting with the infamous Dutch Catechism that drew a rebuke from a “commission of cardinals” that had been created by Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini/Paul VI in 1968 (Declaration of the Commission of Cardinals on the Dutch Catechism), and protected perversity within its own ranks and that of their clergy, did issue a statement in 1999 to oppose the legalized killing of innocent human beings after birth. Sadly, however, they endorsed “hospice care” as the alternative (see Dutch "Bishops" Isssue Statement on Proposed Euthanasia Law, 1999)! There was not one reference in this statement to God and His Commandments. Not one. There was no reference whatsoever to the merits of redemptive suffering. Not one.
As a result, the Dutch “bishops’” 1999 statement against euthanasia was all talk. No action was taken against any Catholic politician who supported the direct, intentional killing of innocent human beings after birth.
Even a recent statement by the chairman of the Dutch conciliar “bishops’” committee on medical ethics once again opposed euthanasia was based on “intrinsic human dignity,” not on the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law (see Dutch Conciliar "Cardinal" Says Dutch "Bishops" Warned of Euthanasia's Slippery Slope in 1999s). Trying to fight what “Cardinal” Willem Eijk rightly calls the “slippery slope” of euthanasia by invoking naturalistic terms such as “intrinsic human dignity” than the due submission that man must give to Christ the King is futile. Men must be called obedience, which is kind of difficult for those who disobey God on matters on Faith, Worship and Morals to do.
The Netherlands is a land whose population of Catholics has shrunk from 40.5% in 1970 to 23.3% in 2014, and only 1.2% of those bother to attend the hootenanny that is the Protestant and Judeo-Masonic Novus Ordo liturgical service. It is precisely because the Holy Faith has been gutted by concilairism’s falsehoods and sacramentally invalid, barren liturgical rites that one moral evil after another, including abortion and euthanasia, have taken such root there. The killing of souls leads inevitably to the killing of bodies.
A recent report indicates that euthanasia now accounts for 4.5% of deaths in The Netherlands. This is no accident:
Euthanasia has become a common way to die in the Netherlands, accounting for 4.5 percent of deaths, according to researchers who say requests are increasing from people who are not terminally ill.
In 2002, the Netherlands became the first country in the world that made it legal for doctors to help people die. Both euthanasia, where doctors actively kill patients, and assisted suicide, where physicians prescribe patients a lethal dose of drugs, are allowed. People must be “suffering unbearably” with no hope of relief — but their condition does not have to be fatal.
“It looks like patients are now more willing to ask for euthanasia and physicians are more willing to grant it,” said lead author Dr Agnes Van der Heide of Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam.
The 25-year review published in Thursday’s New England Journal of Medicine is based on physician questionnaires. The use of numerous methods to shorten patients’ lives “to relieve end-of-life suffering has become common practice in the Netherlands,” the authors said in the report.
The review shows that in 1990, before it was legal, 1.7 percent of deaths were from euthanasia or assisted suicide. That rose to 4.5 percent by 2015. The vast majority — 92 percent — had serious illness and the rest had health problems from old age, early-stage dementia or psychiatric problems or a combination. More than a third of those who died were over 80.
Requests from those who aren’t terminally ill still represent a small share, but have been increasing, Van der Heide said.
“When assisted dying is becoming the more normal option at the end of life, there is a risk people will feel more inclined to ask for it,” she said.
About 8 percent of the people who died in 2015 asked for help dying, the review showed. Van der Heide said about half of all requests are approved now, compared with about a third in previous years.
Scott Kim, a bioethicist at the U.S. National Institutes of Health who was not part of the study, said the report raises concerns, particularly in regards to people seeking euthanasia due to age-related issues.
“These are old people who may have health problems, but none of them are life-threatening. They’re old, they can’t get around, their friends are dead and their children don’t visit anymore,” he said. “This kind of trend cries out for a discussion. Do we think their lives are still worthwhile?”
Euthanasia is also legal in Belgium, Canada, Colombia and Luxembourg. Switzerland, Germany and six U.S. states allow assisted suicide.
Some experts said that the euthanasia experience in the Netherlands offered lessons to other countries debating similar legislation.
“If you legalize on the broad basis (that) the Dutch have, then this increase is what you would expect,” said Penney Lewis, co-director of the Centre of Medical Law and Ethics at King’s College London.
“Doctors become more confident in practicing euthanasia and more patients will start asking for it,” she said. “Without a more restrictive system, like what you have in Oregon, you will naturally see an increase.”
In 1997, Oregon was the first U.S. state to allow physician-assisted suicide for those given six months or less to live. It is now legal in Colorado, California, Montana, Vermont, Washington state and the District of Columbia. (Euthanasia Responsible for four and one-half percent of deaths in The Netherlands.)
This report, of course, does not include the practice of de facto euthanasia in The Netherlands, nor does it include the killings that take place in the name of “palliative care” in hospices. Moreover, we may never know the real number of innocent human beings who have been and continue to be killed in the formerly Catholic countries of Europe and in a land that pioneered religious indifferentism, the United States of America, until eternity. The number of such people is certainly staggering, especially one considers the fact that the counterfeit church of conciliarism and even some fully Catholic clergy in the underground support “palliative” care and the myth of “brain death” and “organ donation” despite all of the evidence that proves each to be instruments of the adversary himself that have been advanced by minions such as George Soros and other “inspired” individuals, starting with those in the medical and insurance industries.
The killing of the innocent is so embedded in the very structures of the medical and insurance industries that an internet report from nearly six years ago contained information about a neurosurgeon who had just attended a conference in Washington, District of Columbia, and had told a radio talk show host that the United States Department of Health and Human Services had authorized "ethics committees" (read: death panels) to decide whether neurosurgeons could perform any kind of surgical intervention on "units" (read: human beings made in the image and likeness of the Most Blessed Trinity) with strokes or brain injures who are on Medicare and are over seventy years of age:
Caller: Basically what the document stated was that if you were over 70 and you’d come into an emergency room and you’re on government supported health care, that you’d get “comfort care”.
Mark Levin: Wait a minute…what’s the source for this?
Caller: This is Obama’s new health care plan for advanced neurosurgical care.
Mark Levin: And who issued this? HHS?
Caller: Yes. And basically they don’t call them patients, they call them units. And instead of – they call it “ethics panels” or “ethics committees”, would get together and meet and decide where the money would go for hospitals, and basically for patients over 70 years of age, that advanced neurosurgical care was not generally indicated.
Mark Levin: So it’s generally going to be denied?
Caller: Yes, absolutely. …If someone comes in at 70 years of age with a bleed in their brain, I can promise you I’m not going to get a bunch of administrators together on an ethics panel at 2 in the morning to decide that I’m OK to do surgery. (Brain surgeon confirms ObamaCare rations care, has death panels.)
ObamaDeathCare, which, of course, is is the quintessence of the model of British socialized medicine that is premised upon rank utilitarianism, placing cost-effectiveness (the cost of treating the "unit" as opposed to its "productivity" in the world. As has been noted in many other commentaries on this site, we have reached the logical "end game" that began with the violation of the Sovereignty of God over the sanctity and fecundity of marriage, a violation that made the surgical destruction of innocent lives inevitable as people became so accustomed to "planning" their families or simply engaging in immoral acts that the best and most convenient way to deal with an "unwanted" child was to kill him.
Yes, we live in a nation that of the killers, for the killers and by the killers.
This nation was founded on the dead falsehoods of naturalism and religious indifferentism, basing their entire structures of governance upon the belief that men could believe in any religion of their choosing--or no religion at all--and order their social affairs properly for the common good.
The founders of this nation, many of whom hated Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, believed in the death-dealing lying that men could be virtuous solely by their own unaided powers without belief in, access to or cooperation with Sanctifying Grace.
It is these death-dealing principles that has produced a nation of wanton killers, a nation whose civil officials are steeped in such craven amorality that the deaths of innocent civilians in combat operations employed in needless and unjust foreign wars are shrugged off with a mere "oops" and considered to be little more than diplomatic nuisances to be smoothed over with oodles and oodles of American taxpayer dollars.
It is these death-dealing principles that view human beings as "units" who are dispensable later in life as at its beginning, "units" whose body members may be vivisectioned from them as a result of the increasingly lower standards of what is considered to be "brain death," which is nothing other than a profit-making myth manufactured by the medical industry.
Most Americans just nod their heads up and down as though they are a collection of bobblehead dolls when they are told the details of ObamaCare. It's just the "money" they care about, after all. Money and the bread and circuses.
The barbarism engendered by the death-dealing principles of Modernity has been enabled all the more by the paucity of grace in the world as a result of the sacramental barrenness of the counterfeit church of conciliarism. And those who believe that there is some kind of secular, religiously indifferent, naturalistic way out of this government of, for and by killers is sadly deluded. Our situation is only going to get worse as the free rein that has been given to sin requires men to convert and repent, and there's not a whole lot of that taking place right now, not that Jorge Mario Bergoglio is calling anyone to conversion and repentance except those who accept the immutatibility of Catholic teaching and those who are considered to be "climate change deniers." Chastisements must worsen over time.
Great empires as well as republics have fallen. The fall of ancient Rome, which was a republic for nearly five hundred years before becoming an empire for its final five hundred years, was expedited by its rampant immorality. Yes, the caesars of Rome overregulated the economy and they overtaxed their people. They engaged in needless foreign wars. They authorized needless bureaucracies whose officials issued burdensome regulations. Yes, yes, yes. It is also the case that baby-killing, pornography and sins of perversity were permitted openly, to say nothing of the killing of over thirteen million Catholics between the time of Nero in 67 A.D. and the Edict of Milan in 313 A.D.
As Pope Gregory XVI observed in Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832, social decay must occur in a country founded on false principles, including those of religious indifferentism and concepts of "liberty" that pervert true human liberty and make possible the ruin of men and their nations:
This shameful font of indifferentism gives rise to that absurd and erroneous proposition which claims that liberty of conscience must be maintained for everyone. It spreads ruin in sacred and civil affairs, though some repeat over and over again with the greatest impudence that some advantage accrues to religion from it. "But the death of the soul is worse than freedom of error," as Augustine was wont to say. When all restraints are removed by which men are kept on the narrow path of truth, their nature, which is already inclined to evil, propels them to ruin. Then truly "the bottomless pit" is open from which John saw smoke ascending which obscured the sun, and out of which locusts flew forth to devastate the earth. Thence comes transformation of minds, corruption of youths, contempt of sacred things and holy laws -- in other words, a pestilence more deadly to the state than any other. Experience shows, even from earliest times, that cities renowned for wealth, dominion, and glory perished as a result of this single evil, namely immoderate freedom of opinion, license of free speech, and desire for novelty. (Pope Gregory XVI, Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832.)
Thus stand condemned the false beliefs of the lords of Modernity and their Modernist counterparts in the counterfeit church of conciliarism.
As God's Holy Providence would have it, today is the Feast of Saint Cajetan, who founded the Clerks Regular precisely to minister to the bodily and the spiritual needs of the hospitalized, including by founding hospitals at his own exepense. Saint Cajetan saw in the sick and the suffering the very face of the Divine Redeemer, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and he treated them as he would Our Lord in the very Flesh. The modern medical and insurance industries that give no space to Christ the King, His true Church or the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law, must view human beings on a cost-benefit basis. They are not units, not redeemed creatures in need of being cared for until God calls them home to Him in His good time.
Here is the story of Saint Cajetan’s life and work as found in The Matins of today’s Divine Office:
Cajetan was born at Vicenza, in the year 1480, of the noble family of the lords of Tiene, and was forthwith dedicated by his mother to the Virgin Mother of God. From his childhood such wonderful innocence shone in him that all called him the Saint. He took the degree of Doctor in Civil and Canon Law at Padua, and afterwards went to Rome, where Julius II. gave him a place among the Prelates. Having taken Priest's Orders, he became so full of the fire of the love of God, that he left the Court, that he might be free to work entirely for God. He founded hospitals at his own expense, and nursed the sick, even such as were suffering from the plague, with his own hands. He laboured with such constant earnestness for the salvation of his neighbours that he got the name of the Hunter of souls.
From a desire to restore the corrupted discipline of the clergy to the mould of the Apostolic life, he founded, in 1524, a Congregation of Clerks Regular, who should give up all care of earthly things, neither keeping any income, nor begging the needful things of life from the faithful, but living only on such alms as might be given them unasked. For this end, and with the approval of Clement VII., Cajetan himself, together with John Peter Carafa, Archbishop of Chieti, (afterwards Pope Paul IV.), and two other men of eminent godliness, took solemn vows at the High Altar of St Peter's Church on the Vatican. When the city of Rome was sacked by the troops of the Constable de Bourbon, in 1527, Cajetan was most cruelly illused to make him reveal his wealth, which had long before been laid up for him in heaven by the hands of the poor, and he endured with unconquered patience stripes, torture, and imprisonment. He held on bravely in the way of life he had taken up, trusting altogether to the Providence of God, Whose unfailing care of him was sometimes attested by miracles.
He was a great advancer of care in the worship of God, of splendour in the house of God, of exactness in the holy ceremonies, and of the often receiving of the most holy Eucharist. The hideous forms and dark convolutions of heresy he more than once unmasked and abolished. He would remain in prayer with abundance of tears as much as eight hours at a time. He was often thrown into trances, and was celebrated for the gift of prophecy. One Christmas night at Rome, when he was praying before the Lord's manger, he was deemed worthy that the Mother of God should lay the Child Jesus in his arms. He sometimes spent the whole night in whipping himself, nor could he ever be persuaded to soften the hardness of his life, but witnessed that he was fain to die in sackcloth and ashes. In the end he fell ill with grief at the offence against God, which the people of Naples committed by rebelling (against the establishment of the Inquisition.) Refreshed by a vision from heaven, he departed thither on the 7th day of August, 1547. His body lieth at Naples in the Church of St Paul, where it is held in great reverence. Pope Clement X., finding him to have been illustrious for miracles, both during his life and after his death, enrolled his name among those of the Saints. (Matins, The Divine Office, Feast of Saint Cajetan.)
Unlike Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who waxes on and on about the care of bodily needs, Saint Cajetan sought to heal bodies and souls, especially by bringing sinners to repentance and by quashing heresy. His very life is a rebuke to all that conciliarism teaches, especially as is embodied today in the person of the Argentine Apostate.
The solution in the midst of these terrible times?
Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary and her Fatima Message. Use the Rosary well as we seek to make reparation for our sins and those of the whole world. Fulfill Our Lady's Fatima Message as far as we can in our own lives, spreading devotion to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary and her requests that we honor her on five first Saturdays. Protect ourselves with the shield that is the Brown Scapular. Spread devotion to the wearing of Our Lady's Miraculous Medal.
Our Lady's Immaculate Heart will triumph in the end. All we need to do is to plant a few seeds for this triumph as we endure the chastisements of the moment as the consecrated slaves of her Divine Son, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, through he own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart.
What are we waiting for?
Vivat Christus Rex!
