Break Free from Christ the King? Live as Slaves in a World of Lawlessness, part two
Pluralism Breeds Needless Tragedies, which was published on the Feast of the Holy Family within the Octave of the Epiphany of Our Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2026, emphasized the fat that State of Minnesota Governor Timothy James Walz and City of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mayor Jacob Frey have chosen deliberately to ignore provisions of Title 8 of the United States Code by their continued efforts to block the enforcement of Federal immigration laws while shielding illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes after having entered the United States of America in violation of Federal law.
There is a special irony in this as these two officials are ardent defenders of the chemical and surgical execution of the innocent preborn and every unnatural act of perversity in violation of the Sixth and Ninth Commandments, meaning that they are absolutely committed to the protection of sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance as they are of the violent felons among the illegal criminals they have shielding in their “sanctuary state.” They have also been indifferent to the theft of millions upon millions of Federal taxpayer dollars by Somalian fraudsters who have entered this country as “asylum seekers.”
Timothy James Walz and Jacob Frey have incited the well-organized rioters to impede Federal law enforcement efforts, and other pro-abortion officials across the United States of America such as Governor Gavin Newsom (D-California), Jay Robert Pritzker (D-Illinois), Kathleen Hochul (D-New York, Abigail Spanberger (D-Virginia), and New York City Mayor Zohran the Commie Mamdani, each of whom is supports baby-killing and sodomy, have encouraged “resistance” to the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a “resistance” that has gained momentum with the shooting deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis within three weeks of each other.
The situation has become so nihilistic that anti-ICE activists, who have dehumanized the person of ICE agents the way that almost each of them have long ago dehumanized the innocent preborn, that a nurse in Virginia has given “tips” about how to poison hospitalized ICE agents:
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health and the VCU Police are investigating after a nurse at the hospital made a series of videos about fighting back against federal law enforcement.
"We prioritize the health and safety of anyone who comes to us for care. We are aware of a series of videos that appear to have been posted by an individual confirmed to be an employee of our health system," VCU told Fox News Digital in a statement. "The content of the videos is highly inappropriate and does not reflect the integrity or values of our health system."
"VCU Police are assisting with this investigation," the university continued. "Per policy, while the investigation is underway, the individual is on administrative leave and will not be in our facilities or interacting with patients."
The nurse in question used a now-deleted TikTok account, Redheadredemption, and was quickly identified as an employee at VCU Health. Popular X account LibsOfTikTok posted a compilation of three of the nurse's TikTok videos on X, sparking viral outrage.
In one video, simply captioned with "#ice #resistance #sabotage," the nurse instructed others to use a "sabotage tactic" against opponents.
"I thought of something good," she said.
"Sabotage tactic, or at least scare tactic. All the medical providers, grab some syringes with needles on the end," she said. "Have them full of saline or succinylcholine, you know, whatever. Whatever. That will probably be a deterrent. Be safe."
Succinylcholine is an anesthetic that causes rapid, short-acting muscle paralysis. The paralytic effect typically lasts for four to six minutes.
In another video where she is dressed in scrubs, she suggests using poison ivy to infect others.
"OK for today's resistance tip, I vote — anybody got any poison ivy, poison oak in their yard? Get some of that, with gloves, obviously, and get it in some water. Like a gallon of water. And get the poison ivy oak water and I'm going to put it into a water gun. Aim for faces, hands."
That video was simply titled, "#resist."
In a third video captioned "#staytoxic," the nurse sends a message to single women, telling them to go on dates with ICE agents and spike their drinks.
"Single ladies, where these ICE guys are going, have a chance to do something, you know, not without risk, but could help the cause for sure," she said. "Get on Tinder, get on Hinge, find these guys. They're around. [If] they're an ICE agent, bring some ex-lax and put it in their drinks. Get them sick. You know, nobody's going to die. Just enough to incapacitate them and get them off the street for the next day. Highly, easily deniable."
"I'm just saying, let's get them where they eat," she said. "Somebody's not going to be supporting these guys. Where's the hotel where they eat? Who makes that breakfast? Let's find them." (VCU nurse placed on leave after posting menacing anti-ICE videos.)
So much for the Hippocratic Oath, which means nothing to “professionals” who kill babies, administer the poisoned jabs called vaccines, participate in the myth of “brain death” for purposes of vital organ vivisection and transplantation, administer orders to starve and dehydrate human beings to death, and promote “palliative care,” which is an euphemism for euthanasia administered according to a custom-made timeline that respects the “decisions” made a patient or his health-care proxies.
However, it is not just internet “stars” as the nurse who was the subject of the news story quoted just above as the Attorney General of the State of Arizona, Kris Mayes, another pro-death ideologue, who has told homeowners that would be within their rights under the Arizona state “stand your ground” law to shoot masked ICE agents show up on their doorsteps:
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes in an interview this week warned that Arizona's "Stand Your Ground" law could create a "combustible situation" with masked ICE agents.
Why it matters: Mayes' comments could escalate tensions between federal officials, state leaders and protesters as expectations of large-scale ICE raids in Arizona build.
- And Mayes, who faces a tough reelection race in November, will almost certainly be forced to defend the controversial statement on the campaign trail.
What they're saying: "It's kind of a recipe for disaster because you have these masked federal officers with very little identification … wearing plain clothes and masks," Mayes told 12 News reporter Brahm Resnik on Monday.
- "And we have a Stand Your Ground law that says that if you reasonably believe that your life is in danger and you're in your house or your car or on your property, that you can defend yourself with lethal force."
Between the lines: Arizona's self-defense laws, which Mayes said are among the most "expansive" in the country, state that a person is justified in using lethal force if "a reasonable person would believe that deadly physical force is immediately necessary to protect himself against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful deadly physical force."
- If that standard is met, a person has "no duty to retreat" prior to using deadly force in any place where an individual may "legally be" — not just on private property.
The intrigue: Resnik pressed Mayes on her comments multiple times, noting that they could be interpreted as "a license to an individual to shoot" an officer.
- "Absolutely not … but again, if you're being attacked by someone who is not identified as a peace officer — how do you know?" Mayes responded.
- She said she is a gun owner and "if somebody comes at me wearing a mask, and I can't tell whether they're a police officer, what am I supposed to do?"
- "It's got all the makings for, you know, shootout at the O.K. Corral all over again," she said.
Between the lines: In response to Axios' questions about Mayes' comments, AG office spokesperson Richie Taylor said, "Mayes is deeply concerned about how a potential ICE escalation in Arizona could create combustible situations. … With ICE recruiting thousands of new agents and giving them minimal training they are risking public safety."
The other side: ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to Axios' request for a response to Mayes' comments. (Mayes warns Arizona's Stand Your Ground law could clash with masked ICE raids.)
Even though Mrs. Mayes is “doubling down,” as they say these days, in defense of her remarks, the Arizona “stand your ground” statute has an exemption for identifiable or reasonably identifiable law enforcement to prevent them from being shot by citizens as they carry out their duties:
It can't get any worse for Kris Mayes. The Arizona Sheriffs’ Association has just issued a powerful open letter condemning AG Kris Mayes' dangerous rhetoric on Arizona's "Stand Your Ground" laws potentially justifying force against law enforcement. They explicitly state her comments show "a lack of understanding of state law – or much worse, a willful and reckless interpretation of the law." Arizona law is clear: deadly force against known or reasonably identifiable officers performing duties is unlawful and expressly exempted from self-defense statutes (A.R.S. §§ 13-404, 13-405, 13-409, etc.). This comes on top of condemnations from the APA, PPSLA, FOP and other law enforcement leaders. Every major layer of Arizona law enforcement has now unified in rejecting her statements as reckless, endangering officers, and fundamentally misguided.
Kris, the unified voice of those who risk their lives daily is unmistakable: retract these statements, clarify unequivocally that shooting at law enforcement is never justified, and tender your resignation. Arizona deserves an AG who stands with—not against—our officers and the rule of law. (Warren Petersen on X: "It can't get any worse for Kris Mayes. Oh well, what’s a little thing like facts have to do with inciting people to act against Federal agents?
Similarly, the District Attorney for Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, Larry Krasner, the Alvin Bragg of the Mid-Atlantic, must have missed a few constitutional law classes in his undergraduate and law school studies as he is threatening to hunt down and arrest ICE agents in his jurisdiction:
Philadelphia’s top prosecutor, a George Soros-backed district attorney, is facing scrutiny and backlash after vowing to "hunt" down federal immigration agents as city leaders move to curb ICE operations.
Speaking during a morning event outside City Hall tied to newly unveiled "ICE OUT" legislation, District Attorney Larry Krasner sharply criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
"This is a small bunch of wannabe Nazis. That’s what they are," Krasner said. "In a country of 350 million, we outnumber them. If we have to hunt you down the way they hunted down Nazis for decades, we will find your identities. We will find you. We will achieve justice."
Krasner made the remarks as Philadelphia City Councilmembers Kendra Brooks and Rue Landau introduced a sweeping package of bills aimed at sharply limiting how ICE can operate within city limits.
The proposed legislation would bar ICE agents from using city-owned property, restrict cooperation between city agencies and federal immigration authorities, prohibit data sharing, and limit agents’ access to public facilities — including libraries, shelters and health centers — without a judicial warrant.
Krasner framed his comments as a defense of constitutional rights and accused federal authorities of overreach, while praising individuals who film ICE agents during enforcement actions. Critics, however, said the language escalated tensions and raised concerns about rhetoric directed at federal law enforcement officers.
The remarks come just weeks after Pennsylvania lawmakers warned Krasner and Philadelphia County Sheriff Rochelle Bilal that any attempt to prosecute or interfere with ICE officers carrying out federal duties could trigger serious legal consequences and potential intervention from Harrisburg.
Earlier this month, Krasner warned that "any ICE agent [that] is going to come to Philly to commit crimes" should "get the ‘eff’ out of here," saying he would charge, arrest and prosecute such agents. He also argued President Donald Trump would be unable to issue pardons because any cases would be brought at the state level.
State Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-Allentown, the top Republican on the Senate committee overseeing interactions between local, state and federal governments, dismissed the comments as "empty threats," saying local officials "cannot interfere" with federal immigration enforcement.
"The district attorney and sheriff know they can’t interfere, and they won’t interfere with federal law enforcement," Coleman previously told Fox News Digital. "If they do obstruct federal law enforcement efforts, the Pennsylvania Senate will be the least of their worries."
The White House also weighed in Tuesday, sharply criticizing rhetoric directed at federal immigration officers.
"ICE officers are facing a 1,300% increase in assaults because of dangerous, untrue smears by elected Democrats," White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital. "Just the other day, an officer had his finger bitten off by a radical left-wing rioter."
Jackson said ICE officers "act heroically to enforce the law and protect American communities," adding that local officials should work with federal agents "not against them."
"Anyone pointing the finger at law enforcement officers instead of the criminals is simply doing the bidding of criminal illegal aliens," she said.
Coleman also criticized Krasner’s handling of crime in Philadelphia, saying that if the district attorney’s office focused more on prosecuting violent offenders, "Philadelphia wouldn’t be such a s---hole."
House Minority Leader Jesse Topper, R-McConnellsburg, also rebuked Philadelphia officials, calling their comments "not just hypocritical [but] outright laughable."
"Instead of focusing on scoring political points and further dividing our nation, those seeking to obstruct federal law enforcement should instead focus their time and resources on keeping their communities secure," Topper said.
In response to the warnings from Harrisburg, Bilal’s office told Fox News Digital that "any individual can be arrested for violating state law in the City of Philadelphia."
"Senator Mastriano and Senator Coleman do not decide who gets arrested in Philadelphia," the sheriff’s office said, referring further questions about the arrest of ICE agents to Krasner’s office.
The "ICE OUT" legislative package is expected to be formally introduced before the full Philadelphia City Council later this week and would require approval before heading to Mayor Cherelle Parker’s desk. (Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner vows to 'hunt' down ICE agents in city.)
Mind you, I have called out police brutality any number of times on this website, especially concerning the brutalization imposed upon members of Operation Rescue in the late-1980s and early-1990s in such places as Utica, New York, West Hartford, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Houston, Texas, Washington, District of Columbia, and Los Angeles, California, and have denounced the police state tactics of the Federal Bureau of Investigation against President Donald John Trump himself and against pro-life advocates such as Mark Houck, whose home in Kintnersville, Pennsylvania, was raided by over twenty-five armed FBI agents on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, the Feast of Saint Wenceslaus, because he pushed a pro-death “escort” away from his son at whom the “escort” was yelling profanities (see Fear Not Those Who Can Destroy the Body, Fear Not the Likes of Merrick Garland). And, of course, I spilled a lot of ink at Stasi-like efforts in the “blue states” during the plandemic to monitor “violators” of mask and social distancing diktats in addition to the criticism of some of the heavy-handed tactics of the United States Department of Homeland Security under the direction of Kristie Noem, Stephen Miller, and Gregory Bovino.
However, the Supremacy Clase of the United States Constitution is very clear: Federal law is the supreme law of the land, and while states may serve the enforcement of immigration law in a supportive or complementary manner, the sole right to regulate matters of immigration belongs to the Federal government alone. To use political science jargon, Federal authority over immigration and naturalization “preempts the field.”
Larry Krasner is a grandstanding stooge of George and Alexander Soros who is as concerned with actual crime in Philadelphia County as is Alvin Bragg in the County of New York, New York.
Once again, as noted extensively in part one of this two-part series, pointing out the systematic efforts to demonize Federal agents in their efforts to remove violent criminals from communities where they have been protected by state and local officials is an entirely separate matter from the shooting death of Alex Pretti by the use of unnecessary and excessive force on the part of the agents involved.
However, Alex Pretti himself, as explained in part one, was no more an innocent “bystander” that Renee Nicole Good was just a “mom” as he, like Good, was an activist, and an activist who had had at least one previous clash with ICE agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota:
Federal immigration officers have been collecting personal information about protesters and agitators in Minneapolis, sources told CNN – and had documented details about Alex Pretti before he was shot to death on Saturday.
It is unclear how Pretti first came to the attention of federal authorities, but sources told CNN that about a week before his death, he suffered a broken rib when a group of federal officers tackled him while he was protesting their attempt to detain other individuals.
In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security said that “DHS law enforcement has no record of this incident.”
A memo sent earlier this month to agents temporarily assigned to the city asked them to “capture all images, license plates, identifications, and general information on hotels, agitators, protestors, etc., so we can capture it all in one consolidated form,” according to correspondence reviewed by CNN.
Pretti’s previous encounter is another reflection of the aggressive approach federal agents are taking with observers and protesters – a philosophy underscored by the request for agents to collect information about protesters whose activities are broadly protected by the First Amendment.
DHS has repeatedly warned of threats against federal law enforcement officers during immigration enforcement operations—and criticized protesters who they argue are impeding those operations. On Tuesday, the department also publicized an online tip form to share information about people allegedly harassing ICE officers.
“When our law enforcement encounter a violent agitator who is breaking the law, obstructing law enforcement or assaulting them, our law enforcement make records to advance prosecution. This is not ground breaking, it is standard protocol,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in a statement.
The earlier incident started when he stopped his car after observing ICE agents chasing what he described as a family on foot, and began shouting and blowing his whistle, according to a source who asked not to be named out of fear of retribution.
Pretti later told the source that five agents tackled him and one leaned on his back – an encounter that left him with a broken rib. The agents quickly released him at the scene.
“That day, he thought he was going to die,” said the source.
Pretti was later given medication consistent with treating a broken rib, according to records reviewed by CNN.
Earlier this month, a DHS official in Minneapolis sent a memo to Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations officers assigned to the state on temporary duty asking them to use a form to input information on protesters and agitators.
The form — titled “intel collection non-arrests” — allows agents to fill in personal information of agitators and protesters who they encounter. It’s not clear whether other agencies in Minnesota are also using the form.
Previously, agents had informally shared information about protesters and agitators with each other, the memo said.
Pretti’s name was known to federal agents, according to a source – though it’s unclear whether the new intake form was used to share his information.
It’s also not clear whether the federal agents who encountered Pretti on Saturday recognized him before they confronted him – eventually wrestling him to the ground, taking a gun from his waistband and then fatally shooting him.
Some Trump officials have spoken publicly about the idea of creating a database of protesters, though it’s not clear what ICE has done with the information collected through the form circulated to agents in Minneapolis.
“One thing I’m pushing for right now … we’re going to create a database where those people that are arrested for interference, impeding and assault, we’re going to make them famous,” Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, told Fox News earlier this month. “We’re going to put their face on TV. We’re going to let their employers, in their neighborhoods, in their schools, know who these people are.”
On Sunday, a DHS spokeswoman denied the agency was compiling a database of “domestic terrorists” after a video in Maine showed a federal agent recording the license plate of a woman observing him during an operation and telling her, “We have a nice little database and now you are considered a domestic terrorist.”
McLaughlin told CNN about the Maine incident, “There is NO database of ‘domestic terrorists’ run by DHS. We do of course monitor and investigate and refer all threats, assaults and obstruction of our officers to the appropriate law enforcement. Obstructing and assaulting law enforcement is a felony and a federal crime.”
In her statement to CNN on Tuesday, she reiterated that there is no DHS database.
Federal officials have made clear they are investigating anti-ICE activities they allege crossed the line into violence.
On Monday, FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency was investigating Signal group chats used by observers to share information about ICE activities, warning on a conservative podcast that people cannot “create a scenario that illegally entraps and puts law enforcement in harm’s way.”
On Tuesday, DHS announced it was launching an investigation into a US citizen “who attempted to purchase a firearm on two separate occasions,” allegedly stated she wanted to “protect herself from ICE Agents, and also to kill ICE Agents.” (Alex Pretti was in earlier confrontation with federal agents who tackled him, broke his rib, sources say.)
So much for the “innocent bystander” narrative.
Nothing can justify the way Alex Pretti was killed, but he was determined to block the enforcement of Federal law and found himself against agents who were ready to shoot first without asking questions then or later.
On the other hand, of course, United States Secretary for Homeland Security and the now ousted Border Patrol director Gregory Bovino, should have known that leftist “activists” were going try to interfere with efforts to capture illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes and have been prepared to deal in a restrained manner with the provocations that were sure to come the way of field agents, especially since Timothy James Walz and Jacob Frey were egging on the activists, none of whom ever grieved or showed any kind of support to the parents of Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, Joycelyn Nungaray, or any of the other victims of illegal immigrant crimes. No, the criminals are the victims while the victims are ignored and thus dehumanized.
Even some former and current ICE agents have criticized the way that the Department of Homeland Security planned and executed their operation in the State of Minnesota:
“The best they can do is shoot the guy in the back?” That’s not the voice of some liberal commentator. That’s what a homeland security officer told me this weekend, one of over half a dozen who have reached out to express their alarm over the killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis and beyond.
I’ve listened to the stories and the beefs of immigration officers in Minneapolis across the country, and to a person, they all blame the shooter, one of their own. The major media is stuck on framing the killing of Alex Pretti as some national and partisan battle, highlighting Republicans breaking ranks, the NRA protesting, MAGA wavering, and Chuck Schumer doing whatever he’s doing, but no one is really capturing what the federal law enforcement officers on the ground are thinking. The truth is that they’re fed up and have been for weeks.
They paint a picture that is more Police Academy (or even Reno 911!) than a Gestapo on the march. Yes, they agree that Washington is a huge problem and are uncomfortable with the mission creep that is taking them away from actual immigration enforcement. But internally? Theirs is also a story of gung-ho 19-year-olds, drunken stakeouts, and senior officers disappearing into meetings and all of a sudden needing time off.
They are also frustrated with the narrative unfolding and the information war being waged from Washington, including the flamboyant defense of the shooting and other controversial moves on the ground.
“As much as I support this administration there needs to be more common sense in situations like this, not a knee jerk damage control narrative that does not line up with the evidence on video,” one Border Patrol agent said in a private chat group that was shared with me. “This individual was shot 8 to 9 times while unarmed.”
“We can’t always support what happens just because it’s one of us,” he adds.
An ICE agent was even more critical. “Yet another ‘justified’ fatal shooting … ten versus one and somehow they couldn’t find a way to subdue the guy or use a less than lethal,” the agent said. “They all carry belts and vests with 9,000 pieces of equipment on them and the best they can do is shoot a guy in the back?”
Overall, as someone who has been covering this for months, I am struck by how angry homeland security officers are with their own agencies, and their blunt dismissal of the Washington leadership. All of the immigration officers I interviewed for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Sagging morale and declining standards are a constant theme I picked up, problems that these sources say have been festering long before the deaths of Pretti and Renee Good (and ones that very much contributed to these outcomes).
More than one ICE agent in particular complained about how Washington’s focus on labeling protestors as “impeding” federal functions (and thus breaking the law), and the vilification of “Antifa” and others labeled paid agitators, leftists, radicals, extremists, and terrorists is confusing the ranks while also distracting everyone from the immigration enforcement mission.
“I can go on and on but overall it’s been a ridiculous experience,” one ICE agent told me. He says that many agents on the ground are just going along with the expanded mission because they are more interested in their away-from-home per diem pay and collecting overtime than whatever the mission is.
Others express the cynicism typical of everyone who toils at the bottom of any bureaucratic food chain, pooh-poohing rapid expansion of the ICE army and shaking their heads over the ridiculous budget increases being fought for in Washington that will have no impact where they work.
“The brand new agents are idiots,” an experienced ICE agent assigned to homeland security investigations told me. This same sentiment was echoed by virtually everyone I talked to, with several conveying the view that Pretti’s death was the fault of some skittish young recruit who panicked when he heard the word “gun” (if that’s what happened).
Even one of the new ICE recruits agreed with the experienced agent’s low assessment of the Trump freshman class. “A lot of the guys,” he said, referring to the new ICE recruits he worked alongside, “are honestly pretty sketchy.”
The new ICE officer continued: “I thought federal agents were supposed to be clean cut but some of them pass around a flask as we are watching a suspect,” observing as well that the new guys “have some weird tattoos.”
Those tattoos, I’m told, are symbolic of the fact that the new recruits tend to be more ideologically motivated than those of the past. This problem is compounded by the fact, raised by several officers, that ICE is relying on volunteers to go to Minneapolis and other Democratic cities on these temporary deployments. This tends to favor new recruits and those who are chasing overtime pay.
It is unclear how these task forces are organized in cities like Minneapolis or indeed “who” is in charge and in control, but those who I interviewed agree that the tide is turning, that some agencies (like the FBI) are increasingly no shows in the field, and others are expressing a reluctance to participate in non-immigration missions.
“Last I heard,” says one ICE officer, “FBI didn’t want to help us out much anymore, especially in Minneapolis, due to the bad press.”
Another branch of ICE, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) “is being squeezed heavily [to serve on the streets against protestors],” the officer says, adding that “lots of guys [are] totally exhausted out there with a lot of pressure on them” to conduct non-immigration missions.
Despite the bravado of an uncompromising operation and the absolute support Washington expresses for the shooters, there are signs that the Trump administration is growing worried about the public (and bipartisan) backlash. President Trump today posted an unusually conciliatory statement on Truth Social.
“Governor Tim Walz called me with the request to work together with respect to Minnesota,” the post reads. “It was a very good call, and we, actually, seemed to be on a similar wavelength.”
That’s a very different tone than the one adopted by his homeland security advisor Stephen Miller, who asserted shortly after Pretti’s death that the intensive care nurse (who actually was a federal government employee) was a “domestic terrorist.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, asked today if Trump agrees with Miller, replied: “I have not heard the President characterize Mr. Pretti in that way.”
And tonight, news broke that Border Patrol commander-at-large Greg Bovino has been demoted from his role and reportedly plans to retire.
There are even signs that Congress has also finally decided to get off its ass, perhaps to do something that captures the on-the-ground sentiment and works towards deescalation.
There’s a good news/bad news consequence of a new reluctance on the ground in Minneapolis, one officer told me. The good news is that leadership “is disappearing into urgent legal meetings,” increasingly worried about the possibility that they will oversee similar killings but also absent on the streets as leaders who might encourage deescalation and discourage the gung-ho and the overzealous.
Worse though, sources say, homeland security in Washington does its stupid thing of trying to divert criticism of their own behavior by raising the specter of protestors (and others) attacking ICE and Border Patrol in revenge for the Pretti and Renee Good killings.
“Threat briefings are now focusing on ‘retaliatory’ threats … , and now they’re scheduling more with contracted DHS attorneys tomorrow and the next day,” one officer told me this weekend. “I know managers got called into meetings all night.”
As the meetings are held, the ICE agents and others I’ve talked to say the government versus terrorists narrative is having a tangible (and negative) impact on the ground.
“Lots of people are freaking out,” one ICE agent told me. “Agents are getting seriously paranoid, afraid of being targeted by ‘retaliators.’”
Several agents described receiving briefings about retaliatory threats to ICE inspired by the Minneapolis shooting. “Guys take it really serious, like we are fighting insurgents,” as if Minneapolis is Baghdad, an ICE officer said.
Though all of the federal agents I’ve spoken to this weekend support immigration enforcement, they indeed see the Minneapolis operation as something else entirely — an open-ended counterinsurgency in a faraway land and under an out-of-touch leadership in Washington more concerned with optics than immigration.
“This is a no-win situation for agents on the ground or immigration enforcement overall,” a Border Patrol agent said in the private group chat shared with me.
He closed on a plaintive note: “I think it’s time to pull out of Minnesota, that battle is lost.” (ICE Unloads.)
This is all very tragic and it obscures the fact that, as President Donald John Trump himself said yesterday, that the border has been secured following four years of an open border through which unvetted migrants illegally entering the country, including the very violent criminals that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been trying to arrest and deport, and it is these very violent criminals that the likes of Timoth James Walz, Jacob Frey, Gavin Newsom, Kathleen Hochul, Jay Robert Pritizer, Maura Healey, Zohran Mamdani, Abigail Spanberger, Jay Robert Pritzker, Michelle Lujan Grisham, and Larry Krasner have been trying to shield from being arrested.
Lost in all of these details, about which most people will forget over time, is the fact that, as tragic as all this is, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is using these epic, never-ending battles between the false opposites of the naturalist “left” and the naturalist “right” to chastise us and our nation for our sins:
[34] Justice exalteth a nation: but sin maketh nations miserable. (Proverbs 14: 34.)
The public exaltation and celebration of sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance is indeed bringing down the wrath of God upon our heads as both the clueless naturalists within the administration of President Donald John Trump, some of whom are convinced of their own nonexistent infallibility and invincibility and are as ignorant about having to answer to Christ the King for the actions when they die as were their counterparts in the administration of Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., and Kamala Harris Emhoff, and the anti-ICE “activists” and their pro-abort enablers in the “blue states” battle each both rhetorically and violently.
We must remember that the Roman Empire was overthrown by barbarians because it had first rotted from the inside out. The same kinds of hedonistic sins, the same kind of government excesses of taxation and bloated bureaucracies, the same kinds of needless foreign wars, and brutal actions against political dissenters that existed then obtain now as well. We have not only refused to learn from history but are actively repeating the errors of the past because our leaders (and most of the citizens, to be honest) are as hostile to Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and His true Church as were the caesars and their minions sixteen hundred sixteen years ago when Rome fell to Alaric (although the Western Roman Empire would continue under nominal emperors who were under the authority of the invaders until it fell in 476).
The United States of America is not immune to God’s chastisements as its people have long misused liberty as a cloak for malice, confounded liberty with license, and have made the ugliness of sin something apparently “beautiful” and even “necessary.”
Father Henry James Coleridge, who was born in 1822 and converted to the Holy Faith in 1856, a little over a decade after the conversion of Father William Frederick Faber, used a series of sermons between 1860 and the time of his death in 1893 to comment on how men and their nations were being infected by toxic ideologies. Father Coleridge was particularly concerned about the rise of what we would call today ‘fake science” as a new “religion” of the miseducated elite, and he explained what the results of such a “religion” would be for what he called gluttonous countries of the United States of America, England and France. The excerpts below come from his sermon on "The Days of Noe":
I have been trying to point out to you, dear brethren in our Lord, the resemblance which exists, as to many remarkable features in both, between the days in which we live, and the days which, if you Lord be not a false prophet, will be at the end of the world immediately before His coming to judge the whole human race. You have seen, in the first place, that we live in the presence of a false popular creed, the influence of which is spreading every day, (Darwinism) and is likely to spread further and further. This false creed, with those over whom it prevails, will certainly account for the strange feature of the last days which our Lord mentions, the indifference of the men of that time to the signs of His coming. It will account for that indifference, because it will destroy in their minds all the principles, doctrines, and feelings which could make them otherwise that indifferent. Such a creed, whether it survive to the last days or not, is at least like that false belief which will then prevail. (Father Henry James Coleridge, S.J.. Discourses on the Latter Days, 1883, pp. 77-91. Published by St. Pius X Press.)
Although the ideology of Darwinism was then its early years, Father Coleridge understood that that evolutionism was designed to replace even generic Christianity as the foundation of social thought and popular culture. Evolutionism denies Special Creation in favor of a disproved ideology that has convinced most people alive today that human beings are descended from apes. We have been eyewitnesses to the rotten fruit of this disproved ideology as those who believe that they are descended from apes and do not have human natures wounded by Original Sin will come to act like apes over the course of time. The empirical proof for this is visible to anyone who can see the world through the eyes of the true Faith as one shops anywhere these days and encounters heavily tattooed people who speak in guttural tones and lack even simple decency on the natural level. So many people today are totally self-absorbed and believe that the word “hygiene” to refers to how they might greet a man named “Eugene” (“Hi, Gene.”) Dirty, unkempt people abound in our world, and those who are just the ones holding public office, mind you, and this is to say nothing about foul, offensive language full of immodest speech and vulgar profanities are uttered publicly by tattooed-bedecked parents with dyed hair in front of their grossly overweight children with Mohawk haircuts.
The ideology of evolutionism dispenses with belief in Original Sin, Our Lord’s Redemptive Act on the wood of the Holy Cross, the necessity of saving one’s soul as members of the Catholic Church and, ultimately, all thought of the Particular and General Judgments. It has been one of the many means—along with Protestantism and the panoply of naturalistic errors that stem from Judeo-Masonry—of promoting a thoroughly Godless world populated by heathens whose god are their bellies and whose glory is to be found their shameless behavior as they have no sense of personal shame.
Darwinism was an application of the Hegelian falsehood of the “evolution” of philosophical ideas by means of the dialectical principle as the first idea (thesis) contains within itself the seeds of its own contradiction (antithesis) to the created world. Hegel contended that the clash between the thesis and the antitheses produces a synthesis that will lead ultimately to the emergence of what Hegel said would be the “ideal spirit.” Hegel’s false system of “philosophical” evolution has become the basis of modern “thought” and cultural praxis.
Karl Marx adapted Hegelianism, saying that he was turning Hegel’s system “right side up” by denying the existence of the human soul and thus reducing the entirety of the world to mere physical matter that evolves according to what he called the principle of dialectical materialism as the clash of competing economic classes and interests would result inevitably in the stage of “ideal communism” when “history would end and man would begin.”
All forms of evolutionism are anthropomorphic, that is, man-centered, and are based on the falsehood that men and their societies are perfectible over the course of time. Poverty, suffering, war and injustice can be eliminated “scientifically” as the species “evolves.” It is this false belief that is taught with religious fervor in schools, universities, colleges, professional schools and even seminaries without question. Truth can never be known as man and the world around him “evolves” to such an extent that what was true once can be false in the future.
Father Denis Fahey explained that the attempt to eliminate any thought of Original Sin from the minds of men predated Darwinism as it was the active goal of Freemasonry to do so: The Mystical City of Christ in the Modern World:
To the triumph of those ideals in the modern world, the Masonic denial of original sin and the Rousseauist dogma of the natural goodness of man have contributed not a little. The dogma of natural goodness signifies that man lived originally in a purely natural paradise of happiness and goodness and that, even in our present degraded state, all our instinctive movements are good. We do not need grace, for nature can do for what grace does. In addition, Rousseau holds that this state of happiness and goodness, of perfect justice and innocence, of exemption from servile work and suffering, is natural to man, that is, essentially demanded by our nature. Not only then is original sin nonexistent, not only do we not come into the world as fallen sons of the first Adam, bearing in us the wounds of our fallen nature, is radically anti-natural. Suffering and pain have been introduced by society, civilization and private property. Hence we must get rid of all these and set up a new form of society. We can bet back the state of the Garden of Eden by the efforts of our own nature, without the help of grace. For Rousseau, the introduction of the present form of society, and of private property constitute the real Fall. The setting up of a republic based on his principles will act as a sort of democratic grace which will restore in its entirety our lost heritage. In a world where the clear teaching of the faith of Christ about the supernatural order of the Life of Grace has become obscured, but were men are still vaguely conscious that human nature was once happy, Rousseau’s appeal acts like an urge of homesickness. We need not be astonished, then, apart from the question of Masonic-Revolutionary organization and propaganda, at the sort of delirious enthusiasm which takes possession of men at the thought of a renewal of society. Nor need we wonder that men work for the overthrow of existing government and existing order, in the belief that they are not legitimate forms of society. A State not constructed according to Rosseauist-Masonic principles is not a State ruled by laws. It is a monstrous tyranny, and must be overthrown in the name of "Progress" and of the "onward march of democracy.’ All these influences must be borne in mind as we behold, since 1789, the triumph in one country after another or Rousseauist-Masonic democracy. (Father Denis Fahey, The Mystical Body of Christ in the Modern World.)
As Pope Leo XIII noted in Rerum Novarum, May 15, 1891, men must be plunged into the darkness of error and thus prone to worship of the passing things of this earth once they lose sight of futurity:
But the Church, with Jesus Christ as her Master and Guide, aims higher still. She lays down precepts yet more perfect, and tries to bind class to class in friendliness and good feeling. The things of earth cannot be understood or valued aright without taking into consideration the life to come, the life that will know no death. Exclude the idea of futurity, and forthwith the very notion of what is good and right would perish; nay, the whole scheme of the universe would become a dark and unfathomable mystery. The great truth which we learn from nature herself is also the grand Christian dogma on which religion rests as on its foundation -- that, when we have given up this present life, then shall we really begin to live. God has not created us for the perishable and transitory things of earth, but for things heavenly and everlasting; He has given us this world as a place of exile, and not as our abiding place. As for riches and the other things which men call good and desirable, whether we have them in abundance, or are lacking in them -- so far as eternal happiness is concerned -- it makes no difference; the only important thing is to use them aright. Jesus Christ, when He redeemed us with plentiful redemption, took not away the pains and sorrows which in such large proportion are woven together in the web of our mortal life. He transformed them into motives of virtue and occasions of merit; and no man can hope for eternal reward unless he follow in the blood-stained footprints of his Savior. "If we suffer with Him, we shall also reign with Him." Christ's labors and sufferings, accepted of His own free will, have marvelously sweetened all suffering and all labor. And not only by His example, but by His grace and by the hope held forth of everlasting recompense, has He made pain and grief more easy to endure; "for that which is at present momentary and light of our tribulation, worketh for us above measure exceedingly an eternal weight of glory." (Pope Leo XIII, Rerum Novarum, May 15, 1891.)
Obviously, readers of this site know that Hegelianism and Darwinism were foundational principles of Modernism’s condemned, philosophically absurd precept of dogmatic evolutionism. One of the chief proponents of this dogmatic evolutionism in recent times has been the disciple of the Hegelian named Father Hans Urs von Balthazar, Joseph Alois Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, who uses the label “hermeneutic of continuity” to make it appear that his beliefs are in some way different than those condemned by Pope Saint Pius X in Pascendi Dominici Gregis, which they are not. (Bergoglio, of course, could care less for justifying his embrace of heresy and error as he simply does and says what he wants while trying to make it appear that his is a “true” and “simplified” view of the Gospel. Then again, Bergoglio is living proof of what happens when one believes in evolutionism as he is but an ape of everything false, ugly, wicked and perverted.) For a good summary of the scientific facts debunking evolutionism, please see the late Gerard Keane’s Creation Rediscovered: Evolution and the Importance and the Importance of the Origins Debate.)
The next excerpt from Father Coleridge’s sermon discussed the similarities between the decay of what he called the Christian world in the late-Nineteenth Century and those of the latter days that had been prophesied by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ:
In the second place, you have seen that the present condition of the Christian populations throughout the world, taken as a whole, abundantly justifies the application to our own times of those mournful words of our Lord, in which He predicted that in the latter days there would be a great decay among the many of true Catholic and Christian charity. We tested this by the opinions and doctrines prevalent over large portions of the Christian world, whereby the necessity of Christian communities are paralyzed by that disease which is the special antagonist and death of charity – that is, the sin of schism. Again, we saw last Sunday that our Lord describes the political state of our own times in the very same words in which He described that of the last age of the world, when nation rising against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And, if any one of these features of the last days which are to be found in our own time strikes us as pointing to the conclusion that we may at any moment have the reign of the last persecution, the reign of Antichrist, and the final judgment upon us, surely the combination of these several features together points with still greater force to the same conclusion. There still remain more features than one of resemblance between our own age and the last to which your attention must be drawn. I shall speak of one of these to-day, and draw from its consideration one or two practical reflections.
The first of these features of the last days of which I have to speak, is one of which we certainly have a very strong and remarkable anticipation in our own time. I mean the absorbing and engrossing manner in which material pleasures and enjoyments hold the souls of the mass of mankind in captivity, dulling them and blinding them, as our Lord says of the men of His own generation, making their hearts gross and heavy, so that they have not the power, it may almost be said, to perceive the truths which God sets before them in His Church. In the passage from which the text is taken, our Lord selects two times from the whole of human history, and He says that it shall be in the latter days as it was in those times. Those were times of great catastrophes, of great punishments of God on the sinfulness of man, when the chastisement took men by surprise because they were so engrossed in the enjoyments of life. It may be that the chief point, so to say, of the comparison in our Lord's words lies in the suddenness of the chastisement, but still it cannot be without a meaning that He should have chosen those two periods for the purpose of His warnings to us. For the suddenness of the chastisement which will fall on the last generation of mankind will not consist in the absence of warnings beforehand, but in the dulness and blindness of men to warnings, however startling. Such dulness and such blindness, as we know well from Scripture, are the inevitable results of engrossments in temporal and material goods, and when this engrossment is possible then are its fruits possible, as we see in those times which our Lord speaks. They were times of enormous degradation and licentiousness, but that degradation and that licentiousness were brought on by the fearful engrossment of those who were the subjects of God's chastisements in the pleasures of the senses and the enjoyments of this world. The first of these two periods is the period before the universal Deluge, and the second is the time of Lot, when God destroyed the Cities of the Plain on account of their loathsome and unnatural sensuality. If these times have in common the feature of the entire unexpectedness of the calamity which then fell on men, they have also that other feature in common, of the excessive sensual enjoyment of those who perished in those catastrophes. (Father Henry James Coleridge, S.J.. Discourses on the Latter Days, 1883, pp. 77-91. Published by St. Pius X Press.)
Loathsome and unnatural sensuality rule the day now, and anyone who opposes the agenda of the homosexual collective is branded as a bigot and “hater.” The members of the organized crime family of the naturalist “right” have surrendered to the “left” on this issued, and it must be remembered by those who are reflexively uncritical supporters of President Donald John Trump that the forty-fifth president of the United States of America has appointed numerous sodomites to his administration, including the “married” Richard Grenell as the American ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Pope Pius IX explained that the heresy of religious indifferntism and religious liberty would result in the triumph of materialism over all that is supernatural:
But, although we have not omitted often to proscribe and reprobate the chief errors of this kind, yet the cause of the Catholic Church, and the salvation of souls entrusted to us by God, and the welfare of human society itself, altogether demand that we again stir up your pastoral solicitude to exterminate other evil opinions, which spring forth from the said errors as from a fountain. Which false and perverse opinions are on that ground the more to be detested, because they chiefly tend to this, that that salutary influence be impeded and (even) removed, which the Catholic Church, according to the institution and command of her Divine Author, should freely exercise even to the end of the world -- not only over private individuals, but over nations, peoples, and their sovereign princes; and (tend also) to take away that mutual fellowship and concord of counsels between Church and State which has ever proved itself propitious and salutary, both for religious and civil interests.
For you well know, venerable brethren, that at this time men are found not a few who, applying to civil society the impious and absurd principle of "naturalism," as they call it, dare to teach that "the best constitution of public society and (also) civil progress altogether require that human society be conducted and governed without regard being had to religion any more than if it did not exist; or, at least, without any distinction being made between the true religion and false ones." And, against the doctrine of Scripture, of the Church, and of the Holy Fathers, they do not hesitate to assert that "that is the best condition of civil society, in which no duty is recognized, as attached to the civil power, of restraining by enacted penalties, offenders against the Catholic religion, except so far as public peace may require." From which totally false idea of social government they do not fear to foster that erroneous opinion, most fatal in its effects on the Catholic Church and the salvation of souls, called by Our Predecessor, Gregory XVI, an "insanity," viz., that "liberty of conscience and worship is each man's personal right, which ought to be legally proclaimed and asserted in every rightly constituted society; and that a right resides in the citizens to an absolute liberty, which should be restrained by no authority whether ecclesiastical or civil, whereby they may be able openly and publicly to manifest and declare any of their ideas whatever, either by word of mouth, by the press, or in any other way." But, while they rashly affirm this, they do not think and consider that they are preaching "liberty of perdition;" and that "if human arguments are always allowed free room for discussion, there will never be wanting men who will dare to resist truth, and to trust in the flowing speech of human wisdom; whereas we know, from the very teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, how carefully Christian faith and wisdom should avoid this most injurious babbling."
And, since where religion has been removed from civil society, and the doctrine and authority of divine revelation repudiated, the genuine notion itself of justice and human right is darkened and lost, and the place of true justice and legitimate right is supplied by material force, thence it appears why it is that some, utterly neglecting and disregarding the surest principles of sound reason, dare to proclaim that "the people's will, manifested by what is called public opinion or in some other way, constitutes a supreme law, free from all divine and human control; and that in the political order accomplished facts, from the very circumstance that they are accomplished, have the force of right." But who, does not see and clearly perceive that human society, when set loose from the bonds of religion and true justice, can have, in truth, no other end than the purpose of obtaining and amassing wealth, and that (society under such circumstances) follows no other law in its actions, except the unchastened desire of ministering to its own pleasure and interests? (Pope Pius IX, Quanta Cura, December 8, 1864.)
Men prefer to wallow in their pleasures and to accumulate wealth and “toys” as they waste their time on vain amusements. They are as immune to the warning signs of a decaying society today as were the men at the time of the Flood and destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha. This is eminently understandable as most so-called Scripture scholars have “de-mythologized” Holy Writ, and this work of de-mythology has been promoted with the great glee in Catholic seminaries in the control of the counterfeit church of conciliarism and by the conciliar “popes,” especially the German Hegelian and rationalist, Joseph Alois Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, and his successor, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who promotes a de-mythologized view of Holy Writ that is a heretical rejection of the inerrancy of Sacred Scripture, every word of which was written under the Divine inspiration of the Third Person of the Most Blessed Trinity, God the Holy Ghost. Bergoglio and his Jacobin/Boleshevik comrades have done this specifically to justify a de facto endorsement of divorce and remarriage without a conciliar decree of nullity and of a “ministry” to those engaged in sodomy and related vices.
Father Coleridge explained that those who ignore God’s warnings, including those given by His Co-Equal, Co-Eternal Divine Son, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, bring themselves and their nations to destruction:
With regard to the antediluvian world, there is this feature besides, that God undoubtedly warned the race of mankind that His judgments were about to come on them. It appears from the Scripture account that the ark took a hundred years to build, and that during that time Noe was a preacher of repentance. We know but little indeed of those marvellous days, when human life, as the Scripture tells us, was so long, but if that were so, it would be quite enough to account for the forgetfulness of the things of God and of the soul, and for the extreme profligacy of which we also read of the anteldiluvian. Alas! So it is. If life in our days could be prolonged for twice or thrice its ordinary span, it would more probably be for the greater misery that for the greater happiness of mankind. And when we are told, as we are times told in Scriptures, that God has shortened the days of the ordinary human lifetime, it is certain that He has done so in pity rather than in anger. Then also, the antediluvians seem to have dwelt in the very fairest region of the earth, they seem to have been more full of natural knowledge and of acquired skill in the use of the resources of enjoyment and physical wellbeing that those who came after them, and it is very likely indeed that their numbers were not such as to cause that struggle for existence which is now the lot of the populations of so many countries of the world, in which the great enjoyment of the good things of the earth is not yet the free inheritance of the many. At all events, they were so fearfully and outrageously corrupt, morally and socially, that the sacred writer tells us that their wickedness was so great, that it made God repent in His heart that He had created them. Such was the population of the earth, or of those parts of it then inhabited by man, on whom the great destruction of the Flood came like a thief in the night.
As to the other period and generation of which our Lord speaks, and to which, in its heedlessness and unwatchfulness, He compares the men of the last days, why need I speak? Sodom and Gomorrha, the Cities of the Plain – the very name is synonymous with everything that is most foul and licentious, even to the degradation of our human nature. The land in which they dwelt was one of unexampled beauty and fertility. We are told in the book of Genesis, that “the country about Jordan was watered throughout before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha, as the paradise of the Lord, and like Egypt as when one comes to Segur.” (Gen. Xiii. 10) And as the Flood had been brought on by list, so also was it with the destruction of these fair cities and their wicked inhabitants. Here, then, we find also these two features, immense material enjoyment and the most intense moral degradation. We are not told that the people of these cities were directly warned of the chastisement which they were bringing on themselves, but, at all events, they had had for some time resident among them a chosen servant of God Lot, the sister's son of Abraham, of whom St. Peter speaks as if he had been a witness to virtue and morality, “oppressed by the injustice and lewd conversation of the wicked, for in sight and hearing he was just, dwelling among them, who day by day vexed the just soul with ungodly works.” (2 St. Peter ii 7, 8.) So that if they had not a direct warning, they had the witness of a holy life among them to reproach them for their profound foulness of lust. And we may daily suppose that if they were not warned by any more direct signs or predictions of their coming destruction, it was because they were so deeply engrossed in their sensuality as not to be capable of conversation, or of arousing, by any such means, as it is indeed the characteristic of men who are given to those enormous sins of lust, to be incapable of compunction, and beyond the reach of the most startling warnings of Providence. (Father Henry James Coleridge, S.J.. Discourses on the Latter Days, 1883, pp. 77-91. Published by St. Pius X Press.)
We have arrived at the days of the sort that Father Coleridge did not believe existed in his time. Indeed, we have exceeded the lusts of the pagan Romans and the statism of its ceasars, and we are making Sodom and Gomorrha look like the Victorian England in which Father Coleridge lived all but the first fifteen years of his life.
The excerpt from Father Coleridge’s sermon above describes most men alive today, including most who adhere to the organized crime family of the false opposite of the naturalist “left,” including most such true deplorables in the two houses of Congress, and many within the organized crime family of the false opposite of the naturalist “right,” including President Trump himself, who is without remorse for any of notoriously scandalous personal behavior and his entirely unbothered about the fact that he has undercut his own credibility by saying different things at different times, including his denial that he knew of consigliere Cohen’s arrangement to pay hush money to Stephanie Clifford, which shifted to a narrative that there was nothing illegal about it, which is true enough. Why, then, lie about the matter to begin with and thus hand one’s vengeful political opponents and special counsel intent on removing him from office?
Those who wantonly defy the immutable laws of the good God and regularly and unrepentantly offend against holy purity and honest speech are to be found on the “left” and on the “right” and everywhere else in-between in our topsy-turvy world of relativism, utilitarianism, pragmatism, ecumenism, statism, collectivism, globalism and just plain Machiavellianism.
Father Coleridge’s sermon, which must have been riveting to hear in person, continued to elaborate on how Our Lord’s warnings applied to his own time over one hundred thirty years ago now:
Now I have already said that the direct point of the comparison between the days of which we are speaking, and the days at the end of the world, which is drawn by our Lord, lies in the unexpectedness of the destruction which fell upon them, and which will fall on the men of the last days. But our Lord's description points also to the resemblance in moral and social matters which shall be found between these periods. For He describes them in His own merciful way, as eating and drinking, and marrying and giving in marriage, that is, as being occupied in the ordinary enjoyments and rejoicing of this world, without a fear of the coming judgment. And we know from experience that, when men do these things which our Lord names without any thoughts of God, and of His laws, they indulge in every sensual pleasure and lust without remorse or fear. And what is required to make any period of the world's history like, in this respect, to the two periods her named by our Lord, is not so much necessarily that it shall be a period of loathsome sensuality, as that it should be a period in which the common goods and enjoyments of life are so engrossing to the majority of the population, as to make them entirely heedless of Divine warnings and utterly unprepared for a doom which is hanging over them.
And now, my brethren, let us look around us, and we shall certainly find features in our own times, which may at least prepare us for the state of things of which our Lord speaks. I am not about to say whether or not the men of our time are equal to the antediluvians and to the men of Sodom and Gomorrha in the extent of their unbridled licentiousness. That may or may not be the case, thought if it were true that we at approached to the excesses of those days, it would be one of the most disgraceful charges that could be fixed upon us. For we live in the light of the pure doctrine of our Lord; we live when the work of the Church has been upon the world for centuries; we live with the example and character of Jesus and Mary before us, reflected to us from the lives of thousands and thousands of saints, men and women like ourselves. What is quite certain is, that we are far more luxurious than our forefathers, and that the possibility of an almost boundless luxury is far more nearly within the reach of the generality of men, that ever before since the introduction of the religion of our Lord into the world. This is, in great measure, due to the advance of our knowledge of the physical world and of the treasures which it concealed from those who went before us. If we ask ourselves in what chiefly has the progress of physical knowledge marked itself on the history of the human race, we are obliged to answer, in two things chiefly – in the multiplication of the powers of men to destroy one another, and in the multiplication and generation of the means of enjoyment. These are the chief uses which we make of the revelation of the resources with which God has provided the world in which we live. We apply our knowledge to the comforts and pleasures of life. The treasures of the earth's surface the stores of metals and minerals, and the other gifts of nature to the several climates and countries of the globe, are at our command to a degree hitherto unknown. Earth and air and water contribute now to our enjoyments far more than ever before. Consider in a great city like this, how every portion of the world send its contribution to furnish our tables or to adorn our dwellings – fruits, dainties, rarities, what can we not have, almost for the asking? The old satirists of Rome are full of the way in which the tables of the great gluttons of those times were supplied from every country known to the masters of the world, but we have a far greater command than they of the resources on which their luxury fattened. And, my brethren, I do not think that any Roman or Egyptian glutton in palace or villa the most luxurious of those days, gave himself more entirely to his enjoyment of what he had, in the spirit of those words quoted by St. Paul, “Let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we die,” than do men and women in the midst of Christian England or Catholic France or civilized America. And if a creed such as that of which I have had to speak takes possession of men who can command so many of the gifts of nature of which their ancestors were ignorant, what can we possible expect but that they will give themselves body and soul to sensual enjoyments, it may perhaps be with less brutality and grossness as to outward appearance than those of old giants of sensuality, but still with the same entire absence of all check and control except that of what is possible to them and what is not? And in our case there is this difference between the sensualists of the day and that of the old Roman Empire, that in those days the extravagance of indulgence was confined to the few, while the tendency of modern times is to open the door of physical enjoyments far wider than it has ever before been opened, and whole classes can now indulge themselves where before only a few here and there could do so. The decay of religion and the growth of the creed which tells men they have no God and no responsibility, go hand in hand with the growth of the facilities of gross enjoyment for the great mass of mankind in many countries of the world.
And here also, my brethren, we have an evil or a feature which is not likely in the course of time, taking into consideration the natural and probable course of events, to grow less prominent, but rather more so. The popularization of physical enjoyments and luxuries by means of the progress of the age is a thing of which we are more likely to see rapid strides in advance than any retrogression. The advance has a natural cause which cannot be changed or checked, and which has its root in the increased knowledge of mankind of the gifts of nature and the powers of nature, all of which can be made to become the vassals of man in the enjoyment of his brief span of life. And all this is simultaneous with the rise in so many countries of vast and crowded cities such as our ancestors never dreamed of, cities at once the centres of commerce and so of luxury, and also, alas! The seats of the deepest moral corruption. We shudder at the thought of what that corruption was which brought on the Cities of the Plain the vengeance of God, but comparing the probable population of those cities with what we know of the hundreds of thousands that are to be found either in or around a few great centres of modern life, such as London, or Paris, or New York, it is hard to think that in any of those great cities there is, day by day, and night by night, much less of foul offence to the Divine Majesty in the violation of the moral law which He has written in the heart of every child of Adam, than what would equal the accumulation of sin which brought on the Deluge, or devoted the Cities of the Plain to the fire which came down from Heaven.
Now it is well for a moment to have dwelt on such a feature as this of the last days, and of our own days as well as of those. It is well, because here is a point as to which we may all contribute to the balance on the side of good or on the side of evil. The men and women from whom we inherit the faith and religion of our Lord were men and women in few things more superior to those who have come after them than in the severity, the simplicity, the manliness and virtuous dignity of their lives. They rose early and ate and drank simply and sparingly, and were not afraid of heat or cold, they could brave the weather and live in the open air, and their houses and their chambers knew nothing of the thousand so-called necessities of the men and women of our time. Their amusements were manly and vigorous, their table was plain, their dress inexpensive, they could dance without danger to modesty, they conversed together without the chance of shameful anecdotes or inuendoes. When they were children they obeyed their parents, and did not expect to be petted and indulged in every whim and fancy, and when they became parents they watched over the purity and the piety of their children. I need not draw the other side of the picture, for it is but too plain how we have degenerated from them. But I say, here is a matter not for the priest alone, or the religious alone, it is a matter for laymen and gentlemen and fathers and mothers of families, as they vale their own souls, and the souls of their children, and as they will give an account of their responsibilities to the great Judge at the end of their time. Then they will be asked what they have done towards staying the plague of luxury and licence of manners, or whether they have been on the side of the increase of that licence and of the gradual declension of virtue and morality in a land which still calls itself Christian. It matters comparatively nothing how far the world may at this moment be from the final victory of licence and this immorality. What does matter to us, now and here, is this – that we should stand up in our generation for ancient purity, for frugality, and temperance, and virtue, for the holy discipline of the Christian home, for the manly severity of life, which made those who are gone before us able to resist as they did the tyranny of the State and the civil and social proscription under which they suffered, in order to hand on to us the treasures and traditions of old Catholic manners. If we throw these to the winds for the sake of the pleasures and effeminacies of modern life, how far more guilty shall we be, how far more severely punished, than those around us, who have lived like animals and no more bound than they to deny themselves any satisfaction – ignorant of God, ignorant of Jesus Christ, without the faith and the hope which might have been enough to give them courage to despise the things which are seen for the sake of the the things which are not seen, to forego the momentary enjoyments of earth for the sake of Heaven and of eternity!
We have indeed arrived at a time when most men submit themselves to the tyranny of the civil state that has been coming upon us in incremental terms since July 4, 1776, a date that was but the inevitable result of the revolution begun on the continent of Europe by Martin Luther on October 31, 1517, and in England by King Henry VIII in 1534.
This concluding excerpt from Father Coleridge’s sermon above describes most men alive today, including most who adhere to the organized crime family of the false opposite of the naturalist “left,” including most such true deplorables in the two houses of Congress, and many within the organized crime family of the false opposite of the naturalist “right,” including President Trump himself, who is without remorse for any of notoriously scandalous personal behavior and his entirely unbothered about the fact that he has undercut his own credibility by saying different things at different times, including his denial that he knew of consigliere Cohen’s arrangement to pay hush money to Stephanie Clifford, which shifted to a narrative that there was nothing illegal about it, which is true enough.
Father Coleridge’s sermon described the trajectory of a world steeped in naturalism in his own day. He saw clearly where this would lead, and it is tragic that so many believing Catholics believe that the United States of America will be made “great again” when its current path of destruction and decay was charted by the rationalists, freethinkers, deists, Freemasons who celebrated religious indifferentism, religious liberty, unfettered freedom of speech and of the press as the nation’s very foundation.
Is it possible for men and their nations to pursue the common temporal good without submitting to the sweet yoke of the Social Reign of Christ the King as it must be exercised by His Holy Catholic Church in all that pertains to the good of souls?
Is it possible for men to withstand the gates of hell in their own personal lives and in their nations when they sin unrepentantly and, worse yet, enshrine their sins in public laws as “human rights” and then celebrate then in all aspects of popular culture?
Is it possible for men to maintain virtue personally or to establish “civic virtue” in public life without repenting of their sins and seeking to do penance for them by a belief in and firm reliance upon the graces won for them by the shedding of every single drop of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour’s Most Precious Blood during His Passion and Death on the wood of the Holy Cross and that flow into their souls and hearts through the loving hands of His Most Blessed Mother, she who is the Mediatrix of All Graces?
Of course not.
Let me turn once more the following words of Pope Pius XI in Mit Brennender Sorge, March 17, 1937:
And today we again repeat with all the insistency We can command: it is not enough to be a member of the Church of Christ, one needs to be a living member, in spirit and in truth, i.e., living in the state of grace and in the presence of God, either in innocence or in sincere repentance. If the Apostle of the nations, the vase of election, chastised his body and brought it into subjection: lest perhaps, when he had preached to others, he himself should become a castaway (1 Cor. ix. 27), could anybody responsible for the extension of the Kingdom of God claim any other method but personal sanctification? Only thus can we show to the present generation, and to the critics of the Church that "the salt of the earth," the leaven of Christianity has not decayed, but is ready to give the men of today -- prisoners of doubt and error, victims of indifference, tired of their Faith and straying from God -- the spiritual renewal they so much need. A Christianity which keeps a grip on itself, refuses every compromise with the world, takes the commands of God and the Church seriously, preserves its love of God and of men in all its freshness, such a Christianity can be, and will be, a model and a guide to a world which is sick to death and clamors for directions, unless it be condemned to a catastrophe that would baffle the imagination.
20. Every true and lasting reform has ultimately sprung from the sanctity of men who were driven by the love of God and of men. Generous, ready to stand to attention to any call from God, yet confident in themselves because confident in their vocation, they grew to the size of beacons and reformers. On the other hand, any reformatory zeal, which instead of springing from personal purity, flashes out of passion, has produced unrest instead of light, destruction instead of construction, and more than once set up evils worse than those it was out to remedy. No doubt "the Spirit breatheth where he will" (John iii. 8): "of stones He is able to raise men to prepare the way to his designs" (Matt. iii. 9). He chooses the instruments of His will according to His own plans, not those of men. But the Founder of the Church, who breathed her into existence at Pentecost, cannot disown the foundations as He laid them. Whoever is moved by the spirit of God, spontaneously adopts both outwardly and inwardly, the true attitude toward the Church, this sacred fruit from the tree of the cross, this gift from the Spirit of God, bestowed on Pentecost day to an erratic world. (Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, March 17, 1937.)
We live a very erratic world, one awash with violence against the innocent and hatred for the true Faith that is now fully out in the open for all to behold. That is, such violence and hatred is out in the happen for those who have the eyes of the Holy Faith to see.
As has been noted so frequently on this site, however, the lords of conciliarism have made their “official reconciliation” with the anti-Incarnational errors of Modernity and have reaffirmed unsuspecting Catholics in their desires as fallen creatures to be like the rest of men in the unlimited enjoyment of the pleasures of this world. It is thus for most men alive today, including most Catholics, to realize that the party is over, and the agitation engendered by the constant conflicts between two sets of naturalists who disagree on some things but are united in their rejection of the necessity of adhering to Catholic truth and of cooperating with Sanctifying and Actual Grace as the means to personal and social order to see that there will no party for anyone in eternity who persists in grievous sin until the time of his death. There is no naturalistic means to stem the tide of evil that has overtaken us as surely as the Flood overtook the men of Noe’s time.
The party’s over but so few people want to see that this is so.
On the Feast of Saint Nolasco
Saint Peter Nolasco, whose feast is celebrated today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026 (on which is also commemorated the second feast of Saint Agnes) founded The Royal, Celestial and Military Order of Our Lady of Mercy and the Redemption of the Captives, known officially as Order of the Virgin Mary of Mercy of the Redemption of Captives, with King James I of Aragon and Saint Raymond of Pennafort in 1218 after Our Lady had appeared to each of them, asking them found and Order to rescue Christians who were being held captives by the Mohammedans. Our Lady of Ransom showered Saint Peter Nolasco with favors as he went about his work of freeing the captured Christians.
Dom Prosper Gueranger gave us this summary of Saint Peter Nolasco’s noble work, to which he had been called by Our Lady herself:
The Ransomer of Captives, Peter Nolasco, is thus brought before us by the Calendar, a few days after having given us the Feast of his master, Raymund of Pegnafort. Both of them offer to the Divine Redeemer the thousands of Christians they ransomed from slavery. It is an appropriate homage, for it was the result of the charity, which first began in Bethlehem, in the heart of the Infant Jesus, and was afterwards so fervently practised by these two Saints.
Peter was born in France, but made Spain his adopted country, because it offered him such grand opportunities for zeal and self-sacrifice. In imitation of our Redeemer, he devoted himself to the ransom of his brethren; he made himself a prisoner to procure them their liberty; and remained in exile, that they might once more enjoy the happiness of home. His devotedness was blessed by God. He founded a new Religious Order in the Church, composed of generous hearted men, who, for six hundred years, prayed, toiled, and spent their lives, in obtaining the blessing of liberty to countless Captives, who would else have led their whole lives in chains, exposed to the imminent danger of losing their faith.
Glory to the Blessed Mother of God, who raised up these Redeemers of Captives! Glory to the Catholic Church, whose children they were! But above all, glory be to our Emmanuel, who, on his entrance into this world, thus spoke to his Eternal Father: Sacrifice and oblation thou wouldst not, neither are they pleasing to thee—but a Body thou hast fitted unto me. Then, said I, behold I come: that is, Behold, I come to offer myself as a Sacrifice. The Divine Infant has infused this same spirit of love for mankind (for whom he so mercifully became the Ransom) into the hearts of such men as the Saint of today: they saw what God had done for man, and they felt it a necessity to go and sacrifice themselves for the redemption of their suffering fellow creatures.
Our Lord rewarded St. Peter Nolasco, by calling him to heaven, at that very hour, wherein, twelve hundred years before, himself had been born in Bethlehem. It was on Christmas Night that the Redeemer of Captives was united to Jesus, the Redeemer of Mankind. Peter’s last hymn on earth was the 110th Psalm; and as his faltering voice uttered the words: He hath sent Redemption to his people; he hath commanded his covenant for ever, his soul took its flight to heaven. . . .
Thou, O Jesus ! earnest to cast fire upon the earth, and thy desire is that it be enkindled in the hearts of men. Thy desire was accomplished in Peter Nolasco, and the children of his Order. Thus dost thou permit men to co-operate with thee in the designs of thy sweet mercy, and, by thus restoring harmony between man and his Creator, thou hast once more given to the earth the blessing of fraternal love between man and man. Sweet Infant Jesus! we cannot love thee, without loving all mankind; and thou, who art our Ransom and our Victim, wiliest that we, also, be ready to lay down our lives for one another.
Thou, Peter ! wast the Apostle and the model of this fraternal charity; and our God rewarded thee by calling thee to himself on the anniversary of the Birth of Jesus. That sweet Mystery, which so often encouraged thee in thy holy labours, has now been revealed to thee in all its glory. Thy eyes now behold that Jesus as the great King, the Son of the Eternal Father, before whom the very Angels tremble. Mary is no longer the poor humble Mother, leaning over the Crib, where lies her Son; she now delights thy gaze with her queenly beauty, seated as she is on a throne nearest to that of the divine Majesty. Thou art at home amidst all this glory, for heaven was made for souls that love as thine did. Heaven is the land of love, and love so filled thy heart even when on earth, that it was the principle of thy whole life.
Pray for us, that we may have a clearer knowledge of this love of God and our neighbour, which makes us like to God. It is written, that he that abideth in charity, abideth in God, and God in him (1 John 4:16); intercede for us, that the Mystery of Charity, which we are now celebrating, may transform us into Him, who is the one object of all our love during this season of grace. May we love our fellow-creatures as ourselves; bear with them, excuse their weaknesses, and serve them. May our good example encourage them, and our words edify them; may we comfort them and win them to the service of God by our kindness, and our charities.
Pray for France, which is thy country, and for Spain, where thou didst institute thy grand Order. Protect the precious remnants of that Order, by whose means thou didst work such miracles of charity. Console all prisoners and captives. Obtain for all men that holy Liberty of Children of God, of which the Apostle speaks, (Romans 8:21) and which consists in obedience to the law of God. When this liberty is in man’s soul, he never can be a slave; but when the inner man is enslaved, the outward man never can be free. Oh! pray that the fetters of false doctrines and passions may be broken, and then the world will enjoy that true Liberty, which would soon put an end to tyranny, and make tyrants impossible. (Dom Prosper Gueranger, O.S.B., The Liturgical Year, Feast of Saint Peter Nolasco, January 28.)
It is instructive to highlight the last paragraph in Dom Prosper Gueranger’s prayer to Saint Peter Nolasco:
Obtain for all men that holy Liberty of Children of God, of which the Apostle speaks, (Romans 8:21) and which consists in obedience to the law of God. When this liberty is in man’s soul, he never can be a slave; but when the inner man is enslaved, the outward man never can be free. Oh! pray that the fetters of false doctrines and passions may be broken, and then the world will enjoy that true Liberty, which would soon put an end to tyranny, and make tyrants impossible.
True liberty consists in that liberty of the “Children of God” and “which consists in obedience to the law of God” as “when this liberty is in man’s soul, he can never be a slave; but when the inner man is enslaved, the outward man can never be free.”
Also, Consider the account of Saint Peter Nolasco’s order's founding as provided by Dom Prosper Gueranger, O.S.B., in The Liturgical Year for the Feast of Our Lady of Ransom, which falls on September 24:
The Office of the time gives us, at then close of September, the Books of Judith and Esther. Those heroic women were figures of Mary, whose birthday is the honour of this month, and who comes at once to bring assistance to the world.
'Adonai, Lord God, great and admirable, who hast wrought salvation by the hand of a woman;' the Church introduces the history of the heroine, who delivered Bethulia by the sword, whereas Mardochai's niece rescued her people from death by her winsomeness and by her intercession. The Queen of heaven, in her peerless perfection, outshines them both, in gentleness, in valour, and in beauty. Today's feast is a memorial of the strength she puts forth for the deliverance of her people.
Finding their power crushed in Spain, and in the east checked by the Latin kingdom of Jerusalem, the Saracens, in the Twelfth Century, become wholesale pirates, and scoured the seas to obtain slaves for the African markets. We shudder to think of the numberless victims, of every age, sex, and condition, suddenly carried off from the coasts of Christian lands, or captured on the the high seas, and condemned to the disgrace of the harem or the miseries of the bagnio. Here, nevertheless, in many an obscure prison, were enacted scenes of heroism worthy to compare with those witnessed in the early persecutions; here was a new field for Christian charity; new horizons opened out for heroic self-devotion. Is not the spiritual good thence arising a sufficient reason for the permission of temporal ills? Without this permission, heaven would have for ever lacked a portion of its beauty.
When, in 1696, Innocent XII extended this feast to the whole Church, he afforded the world an opportunity of expressing its gratitude by a testimony as universal as the benefit received.
Differing from the Order of holy Trinity, which had been already twenty years in existence, the Order of Mercy was founded as it were in the very face of the Moors; and hence it originally numbered more knights than clerks [clerics] among its members. It was called the royal,l military, and religious Order of our Lady of Mercy for the ransom of captives. The clerics were charged with the celebration of the Divine Office in the commandaries; the knights guarded the coasts, and undertook the perilous enterprise of ransoming Christian captives. St. Peter Nolasco was the first Commander or Grand Master of the Order; when his relics were discovered, he was found armed with sword and cuirass.
In the following lines the Church gives us her thoughts upon the facts which we have already learnt.
At the time when the Saracen yoke oppressed the larger and more fertile part of Spain, and great numbers of the faithful were detained in cruel servitude, at the great risk of denying the Christian faith and losing their eternal salvation, the most blessed Queen of heaven graciously came to remedy all these great evils, and showed her exceeding charity in redeeming her children. She appeared with beaming countenance to Peter Nolasco, a man conspicuous for wealth and piety, who in his holy meditations was ever striving to devise some means of helping the innumerable Christians living in misery as captives of the Moors. She told him it would be very pleasing to her and her only-begotten Son, if- ia religious Order were instituted in her honour, whose members should devote themselves to delivering the captives from Turkish tyranny. Animated this heavenly vision, the man of God was inflamed with burning love, having but one desire at heart, viz: that both he and the Order he was to found, might be devoted to the exercise of that highest charity, for the laying down of life for one's friends and neighbours.
That same night, the most holy Virgin appeared also to blessed Raymond of Pengnafort, and to James king of Aragon, telling them of her wish to have the Order instituted, and exhorting them to lend their aid to so great an undertaking. Meanwhile Peter hastened to relate the whole matter to Raymund, who was his confessor; and finding it had been already revealed to him from heaven, submitted humbly to his direction. King James next arrived, fully resolved to carry out the instructions he also had received from the blessed Virgin. Having therefore taken counsel together and being all of one mind, they set about instituting an Order in honour of the Virgin Mother, under the invocation of our Lady of Mercy for the ransom of captives.
On the tenth of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand two hundred and eighteen, king James put into execution what the two holy men had planned. The members of the Order bound themselves by a fourth vow to remain, when necessary, as securities in the power of the pagans, in order to deliver Christians. The king granted them licence to bear his royal arms upon their breast, and obtained from Gregory IX the confirmation of this religious institute distinguished by such eminent brotherly charity. God himself gave increase to the work through his Virgin Mother; so that the Order spread rapidly and prosperously over the whole world. It soon reckoned many holy men remarkable for their charity and piety who collected alms from Christ's faithful, to be spent in redeeming their brethren; and sometimes gave themselves up as ransom for many others. In order that due thanks might be rendered to God and his Virgin Mother for the benefit of such an institution, the apostolic See allowed this special feast and Office to be celebrated, and also granted innumerable other privileges to the Order.
Blessed be thou, O Mary, the honour and the joy of thy people! On the day of thy glorious Assumption, thou didst take possession of thy queenly dignity for our sake; and the annals of the human race are a record of thy merciful interventions. The captives whose chains thou hast broken, and whom thou hast set free from the degrading yoke of the Saracens, may be reckoned by millions. We are still rejoicing in the recollection of thy dear birthday; and thy smile is sufficient to dry our tears and chase away the clouds of grief. And yet, what sorrows there are still upon the earth, where thou didst drink such long draughts from the cup of suffering! Sorrows are sanctifying and beneficial to some; but there are other and unprofitable griefs, springing from social injustice: the drudgery of the factory, or the tyranny of the strong over the weak, may be worse than slavery in Algiers or Tunis. Thou alone, O Mary, canst break the inextricable chains, in which the cunning price of darkness entangles the dupes he has deceived by the high-sounding names of equality and liberty. Show thyself a Queen, by coming to the rescue. the whole earth, the entire human race, cries out to thee, in the words of Mardochai: 'Speak to the king for us, and deliver us from death.' (Dom Prosper Gueranger, O.S.B., The Liturgical Year, Time After Pentecost, Volume 14, pp. 261-266.)
We need to pray to Our Lady of Ransom—Our Lady of Mercy—and to Saint Peter of Nolasco (and to Saint Raymond of Pennafort, whose feast was celebrated five days ago now, that is, on Friday, January 23, 2026), to ransom us from the perils of this present time of apostasy and betrayal as we seek shelter in her loving arms and as we have recourse in the Sacred Tribunal of Penance to the mercy that has been won for us by the shedding of every single drop of the Most Precious Blood of her Divine Son, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, on the wood of the Holy Cross so that we may be ransomed from our attachment even to the slightest Venial Sin and as we seek to live in a more penitential way each day by making sincere acts of reparation for our sins, especially by praying as many Rosaries each day as our state in life permits, remembering that there can be no genuine peace in the hearts of men and thus anywhere in the world, including here in the United States of America, until all men exclaim with joy:
“Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, Dominus Deus Sabaoth, Hosanna in Excelsis. Benedict, qui venit in Nomine Domini. Hosanna in Excelsis.”
Our Lady of Ransom, pray for us.
Saint John Chrysostom, pray for us.
Saint Peter Nolasco, pray for us.
Saint Agnes, pray for us.
