"Lucky" Mario May Not Be So "Lucky" In The End

by Thomas A. Droleskey

One of the most scandalous aspects of the massive loss of the sensus Catholicus that has been caused by the doctrinal and liturgical revolutions of conciliarism is the abject is the way in which open supporters of grievous, heinous sin and vice are permitted to remain in "good standing" in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism. This was scandalous to me during my days as a "conservative" Catholic. It was scandalous to me during my days as an "indulterer." It was scandalous to me during my "resist but recognize" years. It is scandalous to me now.

Although the Protestant and Masonic Novus Ordo service is invalid and produces no sacramental fruit while offending God every time it is staged, the "hierarchy" and the clergy of the counterfeit church of conciliarism believe that it is a valid offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. They believe--or, more accurately, they are supposed to believe--that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament in this purported liturgical service. Nothing should be more important to them than to protect the Sacred Species from being received sacrilegiously by known public sinners.

Obviously, one of the great mercies of the good God is that Our Lord is not sacramentally present in the Novus Ordo service. He does not reside in His Real Presence in the tabernacles of most churches in the Roman Rite of the counterfeit church of conciliarism, admitting that there might be a church or two here and there in which a true priest offers the modernized version of the Immemorial Mass of Tradition and places a ciborium with truly consecrated Hosts into the tabernacle of that church. As Our Lord is not truly present in the Novus Ordo, however, it happens to be the case in the objective order of things that pro-abortion, pro-perversity Catholics in public life who stand for the reception of what they think is Holy Communion are not receiving Our Lord's Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. This great mercy of the good God has protected the Holy Eucharist from grave profanations and abuses.

Subjectively, however, the conciliar officials believe that they are distributing truly consecrated Hosts in the Novus Ordo service. They are abandoned their duty to protect what they believe to be Our Lord's Real Presence from sacrilegious communions, recognizing, of course, that no priest, unless he is a genuine mystic who can read the character of souls, can know the true interior disposition of most people who present themselves for the reception of Holy Communion at Holy Mass. Public sinners, though, constitute an entirely different case than those Catholics not in the public limelight who present themselves for Holy Communion even though they know themselves to be in a state of Mortal Sin. To admit a public sinner to the reception of what purports to be Holy Communion after all due warnings have been issued to persuade the sinner to amend his life and abjure his errors is to instruct other Catholics that the unrepentant, public support for two of the sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance do not disqualify one from the reception of the Sacraments, that such people are in "good conscience" and that they can be admitted to Heaven upon their deaths (or after doing a little time in Purgatory, if, that is, there is such a place, whose existence is denied by more than a handful of conciliar clergy).

Look at all of the praise heaped upon the late United States Senator Edward Moore Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) following his death on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Various American "bishops" praised him for his commitment to the poor and his determination to enact a Federal takeover of the health care industry. Never mind that Kennedy's "commitment to the poor" championed one statist "solution" after another as the poor became enslaved to and engaged in the mesh of bureaucratic regulations that convinced them they were the "victims" of circumstance who needed to have their every need provided for by the civil state. Never mind that Kennedy's "determination" to enact a Federal takeover of the health care industry was unjust and in violation of the Natural Law principle of subsidiarity. No, Teddy Kennedy was a "hero" to the poor and the downtrodden, to the uninsured, to women and to those steeped in unrepentant sins of perversity. Abortion? Well, isn't that just one itsy bitsy little issue that ought not to get in the way of praising him for his alleged "virtues"? (See Another Victim of Americanism; Behold The Free Rein Given to Error; Behold The Free Rein Given to Error; Unfortunate Enough to Be A Baby; Unfortunate Enough to Be A Baby; Beacon of Social Justice?; Spotlight On The Ordinary; What's Good For Teddy Is Good For Benny; Sean O'Malley: Coward and Hypocrite: More Rationalizations and Distortions.)

Pro-abortion Catholics in public life can live and die as "Catholics" in perfectly good standing in what they think is the Catholic Church but is actually her counterfeit ape. And they can be lauded by alleged prelates and clerics long after their deaths.

You want another review of some of the more notorious examples of Catholics in public life who received the Novus Ordo "Mass of Christian Burial" despite their support for baby-killing and/or perversity? Why, of course, I am more than happy to oblige the twelve of you who will be reading this article:

he late New York State Senator Edward Speno was permitted to have a "Mass of Christian Burial" at Saint Raphael Church in East Meadow, Long Island, New York, in 1972, two years after he had voted in favor of the bill to permit surgical baby-killing-on-demand in the first trimester of pregnancy following his death from a sudden heart attack. (See the appendix below for material I unearthed about Speno in an article published six months ago now.)

The late Thomas P. O'Neill was eulogized as a splendid Catholic by the man who is now the conciliar archpriest of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, the protector of perverted priests, including one who started an organization to promote something so unspeakable that it will not be repeated here, by the name of Bernard "Cardinal" Law, in 1994 despite O'Neill's constant support for abortion "rights."

The "late" Father Robert Drinan, S.J., known as "Father Death," who served in the United States House of Representatives from January 3, 1971, January 3, 1981 (endorsing one Barney Frank to be his successor when the conciliar Vatican forced him to refrain from seeking a sixth term in 1980), remained a priest in "good standing" in the conciliar church until his death on January 28, 2007 despite his unrepentant support of surgical baby-killing under cover of law, including the procedure known as "partial-birth abortion."

Drinan was also instrumental in helping the Kennedy clan to plot a strategy to separate their "private" beliefs about abortion from their public policies ( See WSJ.com - Opinion: How Support for Abortion Became Kennedy Dogma.) Drinan even received an award from Saint Joseph's College in Patchogue, New York, in the late-1990s for his work in behalf of "peace and justice," a travesty that I covered for The Wanderer at the time. Drinan's "Mass of Christian Burial" was held at the Jesuit church in downtown Washington, D.C., Saint Aloysius Church, on February 1, 2007. Edward Moore Kennedy was one of those who "eulogized" "Father Death. Nancy Pelosi was another:

Sen. Edward Kennedy noted, "Here on earth, God's work must be our own" and said that Drinan did that work "armed with moral clarity and courage." Speaker Pelosi said of Drinan, "It was because of his faith that he was one of our greatest champions for human rights," and she quoted him as telling Georgetown students "to go forth into society not as mere legal tradesmen, but as moral architects." (Robert Drinan, Infanticide, and the "Unthinkable" | First Things)

Edward Moore Kennedy believed that supporting abortion was "God's work." Ah, yes, just some more of Kennedy's "accomplishments" praised by Sean "Cardinal" O'Malley (see Sean O'Malley: Coward and Hypocrite).

The late Associate Justice William Brennan of the Supreme Court of the United States of America was given a "Mass of Christian Burial" at Saint Matthew's Church on July 29, 1997. This was permitted by the then conciliar "archbishop" of Washington, D.C., James "Cardinal" Hickey, despite the fact that Brennan cast one of the seven affirmative votes in the cases of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, January 22, 1973, and despite te fact that Brennan served also as one of the seven affirmative votes in the case of Griswold v. Connecticut, June 7, 1965, that invalidated a long-unenforced Connecticut state statute that banned the sale of contraceptives to married couples, a case that provided a good deal of the "legal reasoning," such as it was, for the Roe and Doe cases, especially by inventing the so-called "right to privacy" as found in what were called the "penumbras" (little shadows of emanations) from could be found various provisions of the Bill of Rights and made applicable to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment's liberty and due process of law clauses.

William Brennan's "Mass of Christian Burial" was a travesty from beginning to end. The pro-abortion, pro-Communist, pro-Fidel Castro, pro-South Central Los Angeles rioters United States Representative Maxine Waters was so impressed by that travesty, which featured an auxiliary "bishop," William Lori, now the conciliar "bishop" of Bridgeport, Connecticut, in attendance as the official representative of the archdiocese, that she asked that its program be inserted into the Congressional Record (see Appendix A below).

One of those who gave a "eulogy," a tribute that is forbidden, at least formally, even by the rules of the counterfeit church of conciliarism, at this travesty was then President William Jefferson Blythe Clinton. United States Senator Edward Moore Kennedy did so as well. Another feature eulogist was none other than Father "Death" himself, the pro-abortion Reverend Robert Drinan, S.J., who was himself buried as a Catholic priest in "good standing" in the conciliar structures following his death on January 20, 2007.

The late United States Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-New York) was permitted to have a "Mass of Christian Burial" at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in the Borough of Manhattan of the City of New York, New York, in 2003 despite his consistent support for abortion "rights," mitigated, some believe, because he did vote to partially ban partial-birth abortions. To oppose a particular form of child-killing while maintaining the "right" of women to murder their children by other means does not constitute a "mitigation" of one's support for a sin that cries out to Heaven for vengeance.

Get the idea? Sure, I knew the twelve of you would.

Those pro-abort Catholics in public life today know that they can live and die without any penalty being imposed upon by the spiritual robber barons of the counterfeit church of conciliarism. Vice President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro Pelosi (D-California), the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, United States Senators Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), Susan Collins (R-Maine), John Kerry (D-Massachusetts), Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island), Robert Menendez (D-New Jersey), Barbara Mikulski (D-Maryland), Richard Durbin (D-Illinois), Thomas Harkin (D-Iowa), and Patricia Murray (D-Washington) are just some of those who know that they will never suffer any penalties in this life for defying the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law by their support of the chemical and surgical assassination of innocent preborn children in their mothers' wombs.

Sure, there has been talk on the part of some of the conciliar "bishops" of warning pro-aborts in public life from receiving what purports to be Holy Communion in the Novus Ordo service. Most of the conciliar "bishops" in the United States of America are content to let this issue die. Some of these "bishops" do not think that support for chemical and surgical baby-killing and/or special "rights" for those engaged in unrepentant acts of perversity disqualifies anyone, whether a public or a private figure, from the reception of the conciliar church's alleged sacraments. Others believe that to bar pro-aborts from the conciliar "sacraments" would be to make martyrs of them as they would be heroized in the secular media and by pro-abortion Catholics in the pew. (For a discussion of the bifurcations among the conciliar "hierarchy" in the United States, please see Dialectical Americanism.)

One of those who believes that he would make martyrs out of pro-abortion Catholic politicians if he denied them what purports to be Holy Communion in the Protestant and Masonic Novus Ordo service is none other than the "happy bishop," Timothy Dolan, the conciliar "archbishop" of New York who recently distinguished himself by referring to God in a casual, off-handed, irreverent and blasphemous manner (see Whatever You Want). This is what he told a television anchorman at WTEN-TV, Albany, New York, ten months ago now:

Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York told an Albany television reporter on March 9 that he does not favor denying Holy Communion to Catholic politicians who support abortion and same-sex marriage.

“NEWS10's John McLoughlin asked Archbishop Dolan if he favored denying the Church's Sacraments to politicians, like Governor David Paterson, who are Roman Catholic but also pro-choice and pro-gay marriage,” WTEN-TV reported. “The prelate acknowledged that some of his fellow bishops might favor such a ban, but Dolan said he does not, preferring to follow the lead of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI, who said it was better to try to persuade them than to impose sanctions.”

Archbishop Dolan was in Albany to lobby on behalf of Catholic schools, which face increasing financial strain because of unfunded government mandates.

In Milwaukee, Archbishop Jerome Listecki said that he, too, would be averse to the idea of denying the Eucharist to a prominent abortion advocate, although he did exclude the possibility. The newly installed archbishop told an audience at the Milwaukee Press Club that his decision would take into account "the impact of whatever that person is doing." Before taking disciplinary action, he said, he would want to "help them come to an understanding of the teaching."

Archbishop Listecki said: "It's very difficult for me to see how somebody can be pro-choice knowing the teachings of the church" (Timothy Dolan Will Not Refuse "Communion" to Pro-Abortion Pols.)

Consider, if only for a moment, the fact that we are now just fourteen days away from the thirty-eighth anniversary of the Supreme Court decisions in the cases of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. The time for "persuasion" has long since past. Alas, sanctions in the counterfeit church of conciliarism are reserved principally, although not exclusively, for those who dare to reject its multiple apostasies, most especially upon presbyters who dare to leave the conciliar structures as they reject the nonexistent "legitimacy" of Joseph Ratzinger as "Pope" Benedict XVI, and also upon those who dare to utter any word that offends the sensibilities of the conciliar church's "elder brothers in the faith." Persuasion? I suppose it's easier to convince oneself of this empty canard than to run the risk of daily ridicule in the secular media.

Note also the language used by "Archbishop" Jerome Listecki. He referred to those who support the slaughter of the preborn under cover of the civil law as "pro-choice," not "pro-death" or "pro-abortion." Using the devil's language is not in the service of truth. Yet it is that many conciliar "bishops" and presbyters use the language of the pro-death lobby.

"Archbishop" Timothy Dolan is said to be very "pro-life." This is, in and of itself, quite a statement as each Catholic, whether a bishop or a priest or a consecrated religious or a layman, is supposed to oppose anything that is repugnant to the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law. One is either a Catholic or he is not. Period.

The "pro-life" Timothy Dolan, though, apes Jerome Listecki by using a slogan that was popularized by former President George Walker Bush, who said that he wanted to make abortions "rarer" in the United States of America. Dolan, decrying the fact that forty-one percent of pregnancies in the City of New York are ended by surgical abortions, used the "making abortions rarer" slogan in a press conference with leaders of other false religions at the Penn Club in the Borough of Manhattan of the City of New York, New York, on Friday, January 7, 2010:

The archbishop, at a news conference in Manhattan, called the citywide statistics “downright chilling.”

But while holding to the conviction that abortion is morally wrong, Archbishop Dolan and the others said they were adopting a more pragmatic goal for New York than abolishing abortion: “Let’s see to it that abortion is rare,” he said.

In recent years, the Catholic Church has lobbied to end Medicaid financing for abortion. Many bishops, including Archbishop Dolan, have participated in an annual protest outside the United States Supreme Court demanding that the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which made abortion legal, be overturned.

Archbishop Dolan said abortion statistics in New York indicated that it was unlikely that the practice would soon end. But, he added: “We have to tell people what is happening here. I’m frankly embarrassed to be a member of a community where 41 percent of pregnancies are terminated.” (Religious Leaders Call for New Efforts to Lower the City’s ‘Chilling’ Abortion Rate

Baby-killing was "rare" when it was not permitted by the civil law. Although the "pragmatic" reality of our situation at present is that it would be difficult to change the civil law that permits chemical and surgical baby-killing, it is the duty of a Catholic bishop to seek to convert everyone within the boundaries of his diocese to the Catholic Faith. We have baby-killing under cover of the civil law because of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolution and institutionalized by the various naturalized forces of Judeo-Masonry.

You want to make baby-killing "rare"? You exhort everyone to convert to the Catholic Faith unconditionally and to cooperate with the graces won for us on the wood of the Holy Cross by the shedding of the Most Precious Blood of Our Divine Redeemer, Christ the King, that flow into our hearts and souls through the loving hands of Our Lady, she who is the Mediatrix of All Graces. There is no other solution than Catholicism. Nothing else has worked. Nothing else can ever work. Ever. Catholicism. Nothing else. Convert souls. This work for Saint Peter and the other Apostles. It has worked for countless Catholic missionaries and gifted preachers. Why do the conciliarists prefer "dialogue" to conversion? Does the word apostasy come to mind?

Timothy Dolan's fear of making "martyrs" out of pro-death Catholics in public life by refusing them what purports to be Holy Communion is entirely misplaced. He believes that he is a Catholic bishop (he is neither a bishop or a priest). He believes that Our Lord comes down on Novus Ordo tables. He has an obligation to defend the integrity of what believes to be the Most Blessed Sacrament no matter who is made out to be "martyr" by the secular media or by other dissenting Catholics.

So what? Saint Tarcisius laid down his very life to protect the Blessed Sacrament that he was carrying on his person. Shouldn't this inspire man who believes to be a Catholic bishop want to do the same? That Timothy Dolan believes it is "prudent" to keep giving what he thinks is Holy Communion to pro-abortion Catholics is just another sign of the era of apostasy that is upon us.

Thus it is that the now former Governor of the State of New York, David Paterson, who has been found guilty of ethics violations during his ignominious two years, nine months, fourteen days in office following the resignation of his disgraced predecessor, Elliot Spitzer, who has reinvented himself now, it would appear, as some kind of television celebrity on the Castro News Network (I mean, Cable News Network, excuse me), remains undisciplined for his open support for baby-killing and perversity as a member of the New York State and as the accident governor of the Empire State. The current Governor, Andrew Mark Cuomo, will remain undisciplined as well, free to support baby-killing and perversity with absolute impunity while he lives openly and unrepentantly with his paramour, cooking expert Sandra Lee. No scandal there, huh?

Then again, although it is said that John "Cardinal" O'Connor told this Governor Cuomo's father, former three-term Governor Mario Matthew Cuomo, not to receive what purports to be Holy Communion at the Novus Ordo service, this was never made public. A former pastor of the Cuomo the Elder, the late Monsignor Michael J. Wrenn, told me in April of 1997 as I drove him back to Manhattan after we had both appeared as speakers at a Wanderer Forum in Albany, New York, that he surmised that this was the case as the pro-death politician, by then two years a private citizen after being defeated by the pro-abortion Catholic Republican named George Elmer Pataki, on November 8, 1994, sat in the rear of his church and did not present himself to receive what is thought to be Holy Communion. Even Monsignor Wrenn, a prominent figure in the Archdiocese of New York and in "conservative" Catholic circles nationwide, did not know for sure.

Indeed, George Elmer Pataki himself remained in perfectly "good standing" in the conciliar structures throughout his three pathetic terms as Governor of the State of New York (January 1, 1995, to January 1, 2007). Rudolph William Giuliani also maintained his public good standing in the conciliar structures throughout his two terms as Mayor of the City of New York (January 1, 1994 to January 1, 2002) despite his open support for baby-killing under cover of the civil law. Edward "Cardinal" Egan, the conciliar "archbishop" of New York from 2000 to 2009. It was only Giuliani did receive what purported Holy Communion at a staging of the Novus Ordo at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick on Saturday, April 19, 2009, that was presided over by Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict, that Egan issued the following statement:

“The Catholic Church clearly teaches that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God. Throughout my years as Archbishop of New York, I have repeated this teaching in sermons, articles, addresses, and interviews without hesitation or compromise of any kind. Thus it was that I had an understanding with Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, when I became Archbishop of New York and he was serving as Mayor of New York, that he was not to receive the Eucharist because of his well-known support of abortion. I deeply regret that Mr. Giuliani received the Eucharist during the Papal visit here in New York, and I will be seeking a meeting with him to insist that he abide by our understanding.” (Statement of "Cardinal" Egan.)

This is what I wrote at the time that "Cardinal" Egan issued the above statement:

"An understanding"? Public scandal is never a private matter. The faithful have a right to know that a public sinner is being sanctioned by those who appear to them to be the ecclesiastical officials of the Catholic Church. Edward Egan said nothing back in 2003 when Giuliani entered into his sacramentally invalid marriage to his third wife, Judith Nathan, thereby depriving Catholics who believe that divorce and remarriage is no "big problem" of an opportunity to learn that Giuliani was not entitled to "congratulations" on this bogus marriage, that, indeed, he was further jeopardizing the salvation of his immortal soul. There was nothing but silence from Egan's offices at 1011 First Avenue in the Borough of Manhattan in the City of New York, New York. Silence.

One wonders if Egan had or his successor in the conciliar structures, Timothy "I am to a happy bishop" Dolan, has "understanding" with the thirty-third degree Mason named Charles Rangel, a Democrat who serves as the United States Representative from the Fifteenth Congressional District in the State of New York and a militant supporter of baby-killing, who remains a Catholic in "good standing" in the conciliar structures.

One wonders if Egan had or Dolan has or"understanding" with former New York Governor George Pataki, a pro-abortion Republican who lives within the confines of the Archdiocese of New York. Does any such "understanding" exist with former New York Governor Mario Matthew Cuomo, a pro-abortion Democrat who was defeated in his bid for a fourth term by Pataki in 1994. Does any such "understanding" exist with the current Governor of the State of New York, David Paterson, a pro-abortion Catholic member of the Democrat Party. Why all of the silence if such "understandings" exist? Paterson was at Ratzinger/Benedict's "high church" Novus Ordo hybrid service at Yankee Stadium in the Borough of the Bronx, City of New York, New York, on Sunday, April 20, 2008. Did he receive what purported to be Holy Communion at that service?

One wonders why the conciliar "bishop" of Providence, Rhode Island, Thomas Tobin, chose to issue a "private" warning to United States Representative Patrick Kennedy, who is keep alive the pro-abortion, pro-perversity legacy of his late father, Edward Moore Kennedy, not to receive what purports to be Holy Communion in the Protestant and Masonic Novus Ordo service, expressing his regret that the younger Kennedy chose to make his, Bishop Tobin's, 2007 letter a public matter. (See Bishop Tobin Asked Rep. Kennedy Not to Receive Communion.) Public scandal is never a private matter. Why the regrets?

Then again, of course, the counterfeit church of conciliarism specializes in giving scandal to the faithful. The scandal of esteeming the symbols of false religions, an act that is so offensive to the honor and majesty of God that it is almost impossible for us mortals to comprehend in its full enormity, has become passe to most Catholics in the conciliar structures. What's the "big deal" about calling the Koran, a document that blasphemes Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and denies the doctrine of the Most Blessed Trinity, among other things, "dear" and "precious"? What's the "big deal" about calling Mount Hiei in Japan, on which the false religion of Buddhism is practice, as "sacred"? What's the "big deal" about calling the heretical and schismatic "patriarch" of Constantinople a "pastor" in the Church of Christ. What's the "big deal" about a putative "pope" going into a mosque or a synagogue and being treated as an inferior as reverence is given to places that are abominable in the sight of God? (Public Scandal Is Never A Private Matter, revised in 2009.)

Former Governor Mario Matthew Cuomo, who used to be the pro-life "point man" for the Diocese of Brooklyn in the 1960s (see As New Dog and Pony Shows Come To Town, part three), is still standing tall some thirty-four years after his changed his public position from being "pro-life" to pro-death. He's prouder than anything that his eldest son has "redeemed" the family name and reclaimed the governorship that he lost to the little-regarded Pataki in 1994:

The former governor did not play a very visible role during the campaign last year, as his son won the state’s top office in a landslide. But his emotional investment was deep.

Mario Cuomo — in an interview on WVOX-AM in Westchester County the morning after the election with the station’s owner, his longtime friend William O’Shaughnessy — said pride was not the right word for what he felt.

“There’s relief, great relief for his mother and his family, including myself,” he said. “There is not pride. People keep insisting that you must be proud. It’s not so much proud. I think gratitude is a better word.

We’re grateful for the good luck that gave us the opportunity to serve, the good luck that gave Andrew all the wonderful gifts he was born with — a good mind, a strong body — and we were lucky he’s made the most of that good luck.” (A Father Looks On With Gratitude.)

Mario Matthew Cuomo has been in the grip of the devil for so long that appears to be incapable of even giving the appearance of speaking as a believer in God, no less than a faithful Catholic. "Good luck"? "Lucky"? Whatever gifts we have come from God. They are His gratuitous blessings upon us, which He can take away at any time of His choosing. Both Cuomo the Elder and Cuomo the Younger have used their unquestioned God-given rhetorical abilities to promote evil as candidates for public office and in their capacities as elected officials.

Mario Matthew Cuomo, an admirer of the late Father Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, S.J., believes his son has been "lucky." He is giving less credit to his eldest son than he did to then Arkansas Governor William Jefferson Blythe Clinton at the 1992 Democratic National Convention at Madison Square Garden in the Borough of Manhattan in the City of New York, New York:

He was born and raised with all the personal attributes needed for leadership: God-given intelligence; vitality. And an extraordinary quality of character that allowed him to survive the buffeting and the trauma of a difficult youth. (Nominating Speech by Mario M. Cuomo, July 15, 1992.)

According to Lucky Mario, you see, Bill Clinton had "God-given intelligence" while Andrew Mark Cuomo has "luck" on his side. (I'll leave aside the elder Cuomo's referring to Clinton's "extraordinary quality of character" as I have dealt with laughable line in other articles.)

Ever the demagogue, Mario Matthew Cuomo used that same nominating speech to demonstrate just how far he had fallen from the days when he was an attorney on Court Street in the Borough of Brooklyn in the City of New York, New York, back in the 1960s when he, as noted before, was the layman who was tapped by officials in the Diocese of Brooklyn to address various groups about the horror of abortion:

America needs Bill Clinton for still another reason. We need a leader who will stop the Republican attempt, through laws and through the courts, to tell us what god to believe in, and how to apply that god's judgment to our schoolrooms, our bedrooms and our bodies. (Nominating Speech by Mario M. Cuomo)

Not exactly the language of a believing Catholic. This is the language of pride, the language of the tempter himself.

Moreover, Mario Cuomo invented a Republican "straw man" to be knocked down by his powerful voice at Madison Square Garden as the administration of then President George Herbert Walker Bush was not putting the life issue front and center as a matter of public policy, doing only what was necessary to keep "conservative" voters believing in the equivalent of the political "tooth fairy" so that they could content themselves with rhetoric and empty policy gestures that did nothing to save a single, solitary human life from extinction at an abortuary.

Mario Cuomo may consider himself and his son to be "lucky" now. "Luck," however, will play no role in what could happen to him--and to each other pro-abortion Catholics in public life--at the moment of his Particular Judgment if he does not convert and abjure his support for abortion as he was warned in 1990 by the late "Bishop" Austin Vaughan, an auxiliary "bishop" of  the Archdiocese of New York who was as kind-hearted and gentle a man as one could ever expect to meet (and I was privileged to know him), in 1990. Cuomo acted the part of the demagogue and said publicly that Bishop Vaughan had "damned him to Hell."

Bishop Vaughan had done no such thing. Putting aside the issue of the illegitimacy of the conciliar bishops, Bishop Austin Vaughan understood the obligations imposed upon the soul of one who believed himself to be a bishop. He knew that he had an obligation to warn a wayward sheep of the eternal peril into which he placed himself for supporting one of the four sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance, a fundamental act of true Charity on the part of any Catholic. Bishop Vaughan had no more "damned" Mario Cuomo to Hell than a physician "condemns" a patient to death if he warns him that he, the patient, runs the risk of shortening his physical life by refusing to lose weight. Demagogues always prefer to denounce their critics than to accept criticism with grace and gratitude.

Mario Cuomo and Andrew Cuomo and each pro-abortion politician have to reckon now with these words written by Pope Pius XI in Casti Connubii, December 31, 1930:

Those who hold the reins of government should not forget that it is the duty of public authority by appropriate laws and sanctions to defend the lives of the innocent, and this all the more so since those whose lives are endangered and assailed cannot defend themselves. Among whom we must mention in the first place infants hidden in the mother's womb. And if the public magistrates not only do not defend them, but by their laws and ordinances betray them to death at the hands of doctors or of others, let them remember that God is the Judge and Avenger of innocent blood which cried from earth to Heaven. (Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii, December 31, 1930.)

Other than the late "Bishop" Austin Vaughan, there have not been too many conciliar "bishops" who have spoken or written in this Catholic manner. They believe in "dialogue" and "persuasion" long after men with malicious hearts have shown themselves to be open supporters of one abject evil after another. They believe in the path of Antichrist, not the path of Christ the King.

Such men as the Cuomos and Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., and Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro Pelosi and United States Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, among so many others, will no "public" to applaud them for "standing up" to the Catholic Church. They will find that their excuses ("I'm personally opposed to abortion but could never impose my concept of morality upon others") are mere sophisms that have been exploded by our true popes time and time again:

Hence, lest concord be broken by rash charges, let this be understood by all, that the integrity of Catholic faith cannot be reconciled with opinions verging on naturalism or rationalism, the essence of which is utterly to do away with Christian institutions and to install in society the supremacy of man to the exclusion of God. Further, it is unlawful to follow one line of conduct in private life and another in public, respecting privately the authority of the Church, but publicly rejecting it; for this would amount to joining together good and evil, and to putting man in conflict with himself; whereas he ought always to be consistent, and never in the least point nor in any condition of life to swerve from Christian virtue. (Pope Leo XIII, Immortale Dei, November 1, 1885.)

"Luck," Mario and Andy and Joe and Nancy and all of the rest of your crew, will play no role when you stand before Christ the King at the moment of your Particular Judgments.

"Luck" will also play no role in the just judgment that Christ the King will render upon the sorry enablers of pro-abortion politicians found in the ranks of the conciliar "hierarchy" and presbyterate.

We must pray for the conversion of pro-abortion politicians and for the conversion of the conciliar revolutionaries as we beg Our Lady for the graces so that we could be converted from our own sins and failings that impede us from being better witnesses of her Divine Son, Christ the King.

Keep praying your Rosaries and offering up your sacrifices and sufferings in reparation for your own sins and those of the whole world, including those of the conciliarists, giving everything with joy and gratitude to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is that Immaculate Heart of Mary that will triumph in the end!

Viva Cristo Rey! Vivat Christus Rex!

Joyful, joyful, we adore you, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before you, Opening to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day!

All your works with joy surround you, Earth and heav'n reflect your rays, Stars and angels sing around you, Center of unbroken praise; Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flowery meadow, flashing sea, Chanting bird and flowing fountain, Praising you eternally!

Always giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Wellspring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! Loving Father, Christ our brother, Let your light upon us shine; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine. Mortals join the mighty chorus, Which the morning stars began; God's own love is reigning o'er us, Joining people hand in hand.

Edward Speno's Early Support for Abortion

New York State Senator Edward Speno who voted for the original baby-killing law in New York on March 18, 1970, maintained his "good standing" what he thought was the Catholic Church. His bishop, Bishop Walter Philip Kellenberg, who was named by Pope Pius XII as the founding bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre on April 16, 1957, did not discipline him in the slightest. God, however, had other plans for Speno, who died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of fifty, less than a year after he voted to permit baby-killing under cover of the civil law in the State of New York. This is the section from Speno's obituary in The New York Times:

Although the Senator, a Catholic, was identified with his church on school aid, he broke with the hierarchy last year and voted for abortion liberealization. He explained his stand by saying that he did not want to impose his personal beliefs on others. (The New York Times, "Senator Edward Speno Dies; Favored Parochial School Aid, February 17, 1971. This is one of those articles that I had to purchase to get the exact quote that I wanted before typing in the text manually. I may not be--and have never claimed to be an intellectual., great or otherwise. I am, however, a pretty decent researcher.)

Edward Speno did not "want to impose his personal beliefs on others." He was reminded at the moment of his own Particular Judgment that morality exists in the very nature of things. The tenets of the Natural Law are knowable by reason. The Catholic Church is merely the eternal guardian and infallible explicator of those tenets so as to remove confusion from the minds of men so clouded by, at least in some instances, Original Sin (and its vestigial after-effects in the souls of the baptized) and Actual Sins to aid them in understanding the Natural Law more clearly and to strengthen their wills by means of Holy Mother Church's sanctifying offices to speak up in their defense. There also happens to be Fifth Commandment: Thou shalt not kill.

As Pope Leo XIII explained in Sapientiae Christianae, January 11, 1890:

Now, if the natural law enjoins us to love devotedly and to defend the country in which we had birth, and in which we were brought up, so that every good citizen hesitates not to face death for his native land, very much more is it the urgent duty of Christians to be ever quickened by like feelings toward the Church. For the Church is the holy City of the living God, born of God Himself, and by Him built up and established. Upon this earth, indeed, she accomplishes her pilgrimage, but by instructing and guiding men she summons them to eternal happiness. We are bound, then, to love dearly the country whence we have received the means of enjoyment this mortal life affords, but we have a much more urgent obligation to love, with ardent love, the Church to which we owe the life of the soul, a life that will endure forever. For fitting it is to prefer the good of the soul to the well-being of the body, inasmuch as duties toward God are of a far more hallowed character than those toward men.

Moreover, if we would judge aright, the supernatural love for the Church and the natural love of our own country proceed from the same eternal principle, since God Himself is their Author and originating Cause. Consequently, it follows that between the duties they respectively enjoin, neither can come into collision with the other. We can, certainly, and should love ourselves, bear ourselves kindly toward our fellow men, nourish affection for the State and the governing powers; but at the same time we can and must cherish toward the Church a feeling of filial piety, and love God with the deepest love of which we are capable. The order of precedence of these duties is, however, at times, either under stress of public calamities, or through the perverse will of men, inverted. For, instances occur where the State seems to require from men as subjects one thing, and religion, from men as Christians, quite another; and this in reality without any other ground, than that the rulers of the State either hold the sacred power of the Church of no account, or endeavor to subject it to their own will. Hence arises a conflict, and an occasion, through such conflict, of virtue being put to the proof. The two powers are confronted and urge their behests in a contrary sense; to obey both is wholly impossible. No man can serve two masters, for to please the one amounts to contemning the other.

As to which should be preferred no one ought to balance for an instant. It is a high crime indeed to withdraw allegiance from God in order to please men, an act of consummate wickedness to break the laws of Jesus Christ, in order to yield obedience to earthly rulers, or, under pretext of keeping the civil law, to ignore the rights of the Church; "we ought to obey God rather than men." This answer, which of old Peter and the other Apostles were used to give the civil authorities who enjoined unrighteous things, we must, in like circumstances, give always and without hesitation. No better citizen is there, whether in time of peace or war, than the Christian who is mindful of his duty; but such a one should be ready to suffer all things, even death itself, rather than abandon the cause of God or of the Church. (Pope Leo XIII, Sapientiae Christianae, January 10, 1890.)

Did Edward Speno know this? Well, perhaps he was taught this at Niagara University, which is under the control of the Congregation of the Mission (the Vincentian Fathers of Saint Vincent de Paul) when he studied there from 1938 to 1944. Perhaps. He sure did not learn it from his own bishop, Walter P. Kellenberg (who was the bishop who confirmed me at Saint Aloysius Church on March 21, 1961). Why not? Well, the bishop who consecrated Father Walter P. Kellenberg, a native of the Borough of the Bronx in the City of New York, as a auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York on October 5, 1953, was none other than Francis Cardinal Spellman.

Although Bishop Walter Kellenberg did not insist that the pastor (whose name I simply do not have at my fingertips to use, sad to say) of Saint Raphael's Church in East Meadow, New York, who refused Speno a "Mass of Christian" Burial reverse himself, he did permit such a "service" to be staged at Sacred Heart Church in North Merrick, New York. This was the first known instance, at least to me, of a Catholic who cooperated formally in making surgical baby-killing "available" under cover of the civil law receiving what purported to be a Catholic funeral service. Many have been the occasions since this that this has been done, scandalizing "pro-life" Catholics and "pro-life" non-Catholics alike.
