Men who do not live for the honor and glory of the Most Blessed Trinity will, more often than not, slip into lives of utter sloth over the course of time. Sure, there are exceptions to be found, especially among those who are motivated by disordered pride or ambition or by a desire to make as much money as possible. Such temporal motives can be powerful incentives to work hard at one's chosen work. Such temporal motives are, however, have no lasting, eternal value to them as they are directed to the pursuit of the riches and pleasures and powers of this passing world.
Most of those who lack a love of the true God of Divine Revelation as He had revealed Himself to us exclusively through His Catholic Church trudge their way through their lives, refusing to work hard in their studies in school or at their jobs once they have entered upon a career. Americans have been taught that the minimum is acceptable, that they will be indemnified time and time and time again for a failure to perform competently in their assignments, that they are "owed" either a grade or a job or a promotion or some other kind of benefit because they exist, because they are who they are, that is, creatures who have become used to living for the "weekend" or for the "game" or for their favorite television program. Study and work, therefore, must be endured as the means to these ends.
A spirit of sloth has been engendered among many, although certainly not all, of those government employees who have the job security provided by the civil service system, a phenomenon that is to be found among many teachers who have tenure in the brainwashing program that passes for public schools. Civil service employees unions indemnify their members who engage in slothful behavior, making it very difficult for supervisors to correct serious problems that lead to inefficiency in the delivery of services, in competency in the performance of one's daily duties and a waste of taxpayer dollars as civil servants are paid no matter the level of their performance. As one civil servant told a graduate student who worked in the offices of a United States attorney's office in 1980s, "Honey, some days I work. Some days I don't work. Today is a day I am sitting at my desk and not working. And there's not a thing that anyone can do to me."
Those who do not fear the just judgment of God on their souls for how they conduct themselves and who do not have to fear the loss of their jobs will not care much about their own competency and they will not care about public safety in times of crises. Thus it is that even though they claimed to be "prepared," having learned the lessons of the utter sloth displayed by members of the sanitation worker's union and other municipal employees during the epic snowstorm of Sunday, December 26, 2010, the Feast of Saint Stephen the Protomartyr, that paralyzed the City of New York as countless numbers of buses operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority got stuck in snow drifts and as even major thoroughfares remained unplowed, the clueless Keystone Cops of Naturalism in the governments of the City of New York and the State of New York have demonstrated complete mismanagement of the response to the disaster that befell the northeast during and in the aftermath of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Sandy.
Countless thousands upon thousands of people in the Borough of Staten Island remain without electrotype, natural gas or electricity. Many of these people are afraid to leave their homes because of widespread looting that the "mainstream media" refuses to report is taking place, and it is taking place also in the communities along the Jersey Shore in the State of New Jersey, the Borough of Brooklyn in the City of New York and in various communities on the South Shore of Long Island in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties. One wonders if there will be such a media "blackout" if the naturalist of the false opposite of the "right," Willard Mitt Romney, defeats the naturalist of the false opposite of the "left," Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro, and widespread violence takes place in our nation's cities to "protest" the ouster of the reigning caesar. Public safety is being threatened and "political correctness" reigns supreme. What was that Pope Leo XIII said about "public life is stained with crime" in Tametsi Futura Prospicientibus, November 1, 1900?
Although officials in the City of New York and State of New York and elsewhere in the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut thought that they were prepared for the Hurricane Sandy, the plain truth of the matter is that they were not. The hapless response has varied from brave promises made by the pro-abortion, pro-perversity Governor of New York Andrew Mark Cuomo to provide ten gallons' worth of "free" gasoline at five designated locations around the City of New York that were changed to no such gasoline at all except for emergency vehicles and the vehicles of "first responders" to the brave promise of the pro-abortion, pro-perversity Mayor of the City of New York Michael Rubens Bloomberg to permit the annual running of the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 4, 2012, the Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost and the Commemoration of Saint Charles Borromeo and the Commemoration of Saints Vitalis and Agricola, that he had to reverse when he turned out that four powerful generators that could have been used to provide heat for the suffering souls on Staten Island were being reserved for the organizers of marathon, which is usually won by the equivalent of a human stick (that is, what appears to be a thoroughly emaciated human being) from a foreign nation. Some of the generators designated for the marathon were shipped over to the rental facility in New Jersey from which city officials had rented them rather than being sent to the poor people on Staten Island.
Yes, indeed, my friends, behold Crisis Management by the Keystone Cops of Naturalism.
True, the enormity of the storm is truly staggering. When one does not see the world clearly through the eyes of the true Faith, however, the suffering of human beings gets lost in the fog of bureaucracy and computer "drop bars." That is, every citizen complaint has to be handled "online" as people use various pre-figured categories into which their specific problems can be pigeonholed for the equivalent of a computer generated version of the "bug letter" to get the complainant to shut up and quit complaining. Alas, it is very difficult for people who have no electricity to access the internet.
I have spoken with several people in New York, including two friends in my home community from November 10, 1955, to August 2, 1965, Great Neck, New York, who are in the cold and without any electricity whatsoever. One man had to go to a Starbucks Coffee shop to charge the battery of his cellular phone. Others are recharging their cellular phone batteries by using electrical outlets located on the outside of buildings that have electricity to offer. Long lines of people have waited for the "privilege" of doing this. And need there be any discussion of the tempers that have flared into violence as people have waited up to two and three hours to get a small amount of gasoline at open gasoline stations before those stations' tanks run dry for the day.
Grocery stores have not been restocked with food. People are hungry. One man on Long Island told a newspaper reporter that he was using his living room furniture for firewood, believe it or now. Others are dealing with all manner of oil and raw sewage in their basements that were flooded by the storm surges caused by "Superstorm" Sandy. The incompetent Long Island Power Authority, the successor to the equally incompetent Long Island Lighting Company, reported to Newsday, the Long Island newspaper, that over 100,000 homes were destroyed in Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island. This is simply unimaginable to me, a native of Long Island, who, despite the nostalgic yearnings over the years to "go home," is grateful to the good God not to be there. God's ways are far, far better than our own. One hundred thousands homes destroyed?
A little over 400,000 homes in Nassau and Suffolk Counties remain without electricity. Believe me, I know that is look as my family's home at the then numbered 234 Laurel Cove Road (since numbered 36 Laurel Cove Road) in Oyster Bay Cove, which was our wonderful residence from August 2, 1965, to January 10, 1973, New York, was among the last residential units to have electricity restored after any kind of major wind storm hit Long Island. This was particularly troublesome as we had a private well whose pump in our house was electrically primed. Yes, that's right. No electricity, no running water. No water of any kind. It is now the case that over 400,000 homes are suffering in a similar way right now with no prospect of life returning to normal any time soon.
Once again, though, without taking anything whatsoever away from the immensity of the suffering and the tragedy that so many people are experiencing at this time, it nevertheless remains true, as noted five days ago in Very Close
To Home, that this is all a chastisement from God for our sins and those of the whole world. The liturgy of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church in these last weeks of the liturgical year turn our attention to Last Things in order to teach us to be detached from the things, people and places of this passing world, something that has particular relevance to the current disaster as the destruction of property and personal effects, no matter how painful to endure, should be seen as great gifts from Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to be more closely united to Him and focused on the moment of the Particular Judgment. Nothing else matters other than being in a state of Sanctifying Grace as a member of the Catholic Church.
Moreover, of course, God will not be mocked.
Each of the beaches affected by the "Superstorm" Sandy has been a mecca of immodesty that have greatly offend God and wound the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of His Most Blessed Mother.
Many of the beaches on the Jersey Shore and Long Island (Jones Beach, the beaches on Fire Island) have served as veritable playgrounds for those who are steeped in unrepentant sins of perversity in violation of the Sixth and Ninth Commandments.
To wit, a reader of this site from New Jersey wrote to me upon reading Very Close
To Home as he described a visit that he paid with his wife to a seaside community, Asbury Park, New Jersey, on Saturday, August 25, 2012, the Feast of Saint Louis IX, King of France:
By way of background, Asbury Park, New Jersey, is a resort town about twenty miles north of Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Both towns were very popular resorts with marvelous boardwalks that were the delight of families with children, offering wholesome entertainment until the late 1960's, when the "culture" changed. Both Towns provided many happy memories for both my wife and me, as children, long before we met each other. Both towns were severely destroyed by the recent hurricane. On August 25 of this year, my wife and I visited Asbury Park to once again see the boardwalk that we had enjoyed so many times in our youth. My wife had even sung in a talent contest on the boardwalk in the 1950's. We were heartsick at what we saw and encountered and stayed less than an hour. Here is what I wrote in my Monthly planner on that date when we returned home:
"Sat. 25 Aug:
"We visited Asbury Park for first time in 20+ years. It was lesbians on the beach, as the beach was taken over by a group called 'LesGo', celebrating, publicly, lesbianism and homosexuality, sins against the 6th & 9th Commandments that cry out to heaven for justice. The 'LesGo' banners proclaimed a day of beach volleyball by lesbians. Asbury Park has become a Sodom & Gomorrah in the 21st Century."
Yes, God will not be mocked.
Obviously, the revolutionaries in charge of the counterfeit church of conciliarism and other sentimentally-driven people would deny any such cause and effect as they do not believe that God chastises his erring, sinful children in order to correct them and thus bring them to their knees in repentance. How can they believe that this is so as their very false liturgy has gutted almost every reference in its various Collects to human sin and to the reality of a God Who judges His children harshly if they do not repent of their sins before they die. Remember, Roger "Cardinal" Mahony, publicly denied that there was even the slightest connection between the fact that North ridge, California, was the epicenter of a major earthquake on January 17, 1994.
Then again, of course, the conciliar revolutionaries, many of whom are most sympathetic to the promotion of the "gay agenda" under the "aegis" of "compassion" and have consistently undermined the purity and the innocence of the young by means of explicit classroom instruction in matters pertaining to the Sixth and Ninth Commandments, instruction that includes "sensitivity" to the "needs" and the "rights" of "gay people" that is nothing other than ideological programming, do not believe in a God Who judges. They do not believe in the reality of Hell. Many do not even believe in Purgatory even though they take their annual envelopes for All Souls' Day stipends that cause some of their number to refer to November 2 each year as "Black Christmas" (meaning that a whole lot of loot is collected from the Mass stipends contained in the envelopes for All Souls' Day).
Sin?
Penance?
Reparation?
I will never tire of reminding you that the "new liturgy" of the counterfeit church of conciliarism reflects the "new theology" of the essential "goodness" of man that consigns acts of outward penance as "belonging to another age in the history of the Church:"
The same awareness of the present state of the world also influenced
the use of texts from very ancient tradition. It seemed that this
cherished treasure would not be harmed if some phrases were changed so
that the style of language would be more in accord with the language of
modern theology and would faithfully reflect the actual state of the
Church's discipline. Thus there have been changes of some expressions
bearing on the evaluation and use of the good things of the earth and of
allusions to a particular form of outward penance belonging to another
age in the history of the Church. (Paragraph Fifteen, General Instruction to the Roman Missal, 1997.)
Who says that forms of "outward penance" belong to "another age in the
history of the Church? Revolutionaries, that's who. Revolutionaries
whose hatred for the need to do personal penance for one's sins is
indicative of their lack of appreciation for the horror of personal sin
(see Having No Regard for the Horror of Sin and Just A Matter of Forgiveness?). Natural disasters are punishments sent by God to chastise His children. The conciliar revolutionaries scoff as if to see, "Why, why, why, that is a monstrous assertion. No 'loving' God would do this to us."
It is because the conciliar officials refuse to accept that it is precisely a truly loving God Who chastises His children that most of those who are suffering right now have not a clue as to what has happened to to them. It is also why the Keystone Cops of Naturalism in various governmental units and agencies are content with the sloth engendered by a bureaucratization of life that itself is the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolution and the rise of the naturalism encompassed by the phrase Judeo-Masonry that has such favor with the conciliar revolutionaries, starting with Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, who has just appointed a Freemason to the "Pontifical" Academy of the Sciences (see Benedict Names Mason to Academy of Sciences).
God will not be mocked by sins of impurity, immodesty and worldliness.
God will not be mocked by sins of sloth.
God will not be mocked.
This is, my handful of select readers, what must happen as men and their
nations degenerate over the course of time because of naturalism's
pernicious effect on the social fabric. It is tough enough for men who
have the true Faith to avoid falling into slothful patterns of behavior
at home or on the job. It is very difficult for those who do not have
the true Faith and who have accustomed themselves to living along the
naturalistic paths of minimalism and self-centeredness to avoid becoming
habitually slothful and careless to the point of being cold-hearted in
the face of the inconvenience their immorality and irresponsibility
causes others. This coldheartedness itself is but a reflection of the
national callousness that exists in the hearts of most Americans about
the daily plight of over four thousand innocent human babies who are
dismembered surgically in their mothers' wombs under cover of the civil
law (and the thousands more who die each day as a result of
abortifacient contraceptives).
Those who are content with sloth, especially sloth that wastes the time and money of taxpayers and puts innocent human beings in jeopardy needlessly ought to reckon with these words found in Father Charles Arminjon's The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life as they commit acts of evil and injustice that undermine the common temporal good and place into jeopardy the eternal salvation of their souls and can, of course, threaten even the existence of their nations:
We are not a prophet, and we should not venture to summon at such short notice all wicked men, the pamphleteers of free-thought, the instigators of unjust laws, those who violate the honor and liberty of the family, and the rights and virtue of children; but that those men who defy god and deride His threats will one day have a minute and rigorous account to render His justice . . . is an absolutely certain truth . . . and, sooner, or later, they will settle that account. On the day of solemn reparation, the wicked who called the just fools, who glutted themselves on their tortures and tears, like starving men devouring bread, will learn to their cost that God does not suffer Himself to be mocked, and that there will be no impunity or license for the benefit of crime and evil.
All wrongs will be strikingly redressed. The blood of Abel, which washed the earth, will gush out over Cain, and raise an accusing voice against him. St. Peter will demand an account of Nero for the torture to which he sentenced him. Mary Stuart will call down the divine vengeance upon the head of Elizabeth of England, her murderer. All the saints will cry out with one voice to God: Usquequo, Domine, non judicas et non vindicas sanguinem nostrum de iis qui habitant in terra.
It will be a great court of appeal, to which an immense number of cases, famous on earth, will be referred, where an infinite number of judgments that fear, ambition, or self-interest have dictated to men, will be irrevocably annulled; where, in a word, Providence, against which fools blasphemed on earth, with accusations that it was harsh, unjust, and blindly partial, will provide complete justification for its ways, as it is written: Ut vincas cum juidcaris.
(Father Charles Arminjon, The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life, translated by Susan Conroy and Peter McEnerny. Manchester, New Hampshire: Sophia Institute Press, 2008, pp. 106-107.)
Isn't interesting that most elected officials, steeped in the myths of their own invincibility and the correctness of their particular brand of naturalism, are content to make promises they cannot keep while they themselves live catered, pampered lives without having any fear whatsoever of answering to God for their support of the slaughter of the innocent preborn under the cover of the civil law? The powerful of this world who place the lives and welfare of citizens in jeopardy while making empty gestures, many of which they have to reverse in mid-course, are themselves going to have to make an account of their sins of omission and for this sins of commission by supporting the daily slaughter of the preborn, whether by chemical or surgical means:
Those who hold the reins of government should not forget that it is the duty of public authority by appropriate laws and sanctions to defend the lives of the innocent, and this all the more so since those whose lives are endangered and assailed cannot defend themselves. Among whom we must mention in the first place infants hidden in the mother's womb. And if the public magistrates not only do not defend them, but by their laws and ordinances betray them to death at the hands of doctors or of others, let them remember that God is the Judge and Avenger of innocent blood which cried from earth to Heaven. (Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii, December 30, 1930.)
Please send this to those who civil power so that they can't say that they were not warned before the moment of their Particular Judgments that there is no excuse before God for supporting the evils that they do under cover of the civil law that have visited the wrath God upon them and their taxpayers in this time when unrepentant sin, much of it committed with the sanction of the civil law, abounds so freely and devastates the lives and the souls of so many human beings for whom Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ shed every single drop of His Most Precious Blood to redeem.
If we are honest with ourselves, my friends, especially at the end of another calendar year, we must recognize that our sins, including our own sins of sloth, have worsened the state of the Church Militant on earth in this time of apostasy and betrayal and that they have worsened the state of the world-at-large. We must live more penitentially every day of this coming new year of Our Lord, 2011, as we pray and fast and make every manner of sacrifice possible as the consecrated slaves of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary.
We must be about the business of planting a few seeds for the restoration of the Church Militant on earth and of Christendom in the world, using Our Lady's Most Holy Weapon with confidence as we shield herself with her Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel and have confidence in the abiding miraculous properties of her Miraculous Medal.
Isn't it time right now to pray at least five decades of Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary for those who continue to suffer in the Northeast as we make reparation for our sins and those of the whole world that have worsened both the state of the world and the state the Church Militant in this time of apostasy and betrayal.
Let us us pray to Our Lady to be champions of Christ the King and of her own Immaculate Heart who never managed any kind of crisis, whether personal or social, according to the false, cross-eyed lights of the Keystone Cops of Naturalism
Viva Cristo Rey! Vivat Christus Rex!
