Saint Rose of Lima: The Difference Between Heaven and Hell

Although three days late because of the work that I was doing on "Simply Holy: Father Solanus Casey, O.F.M., I am hereby publishing a sightly revised version of my reflection on the life of Saint Rose of Lima, a member of the Third Order of Penance of the Order of Preachers of Saint Dominic de Guzman.

Among many other works in her devout life of prayer and austere penances, Saint Rose, who lived among a cluster of saints in Lima, Peru, exhorted the people of Lima to gather in their churches and pray their Rosaries to turn back a pending invasion of their city by a fleet of those virulent anti-Catholics, the Dutch Calvinists. Those hideous people with their diabolical beliefs that have nothing at all to do with Christianity turned back as a result of the Rosaries that were prayed to repel them in their designs to invade Lima and to sack Catholic churches and to desecrated the Most Blessed Sacrament images of the Mother of God. May we pray to Saint Rose of Lima so that we will remain faithful to the daily recitation of Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary as the powerful weapon, after Holy Mass itself, to turn back the enemies of Christ the King in the world and in the counterfeit church of conciliarism.

Simply Holy: Father Solanus Casey, O.F.M., Cap.

[Thanks to a reader who volunteered, all remaining typographical errors have been removed from this article.)

This article took many days to complete, including fourteen hours yesterday into today, Friday, September 1, 2016, the Feast of Saint Giles and the Commemoration of the Twelve Holy Brothers. Transcription of two articles from the January-February 1958 Age of Mary Marian magazine, which was published by the Servants of Mary (Servite Fathers), took a great deal of time yesterday. Other transcription had been done four days ago now.

Contained in this reflection on the simply holy life of Father Solanus Casey, O.F.M., Cap, who helped me out last month in a most embarrassing situation caused by wholly simple stupidity on my part, is a detailed description of Father Solanus's love of Our Lady and of The Mystical City of God, which he recommended to those who sought hi out for spiritual advice and counsel. This love of The Mystical City of God was not the solitary province of a simplex priest. No, it was shared by the late Father Martin Stepanich, O.F.M., S.T.D., who opened my own rather skeptical eyes over eight years ago now, and by none other than Dom Prosper Gueranger, O.S.B.

This commentary, which was tweaked slightly about eight hours after it was published, includes a link to a recently published English translation of a book containing each of Dom Prosper Gueranger's twenty-eight articles on The Mystical City of God that were published in L'Univers, a French journal, between 1858 and 1859, and a link to a website where those articles can be found the French language in which they had been published.

I have included material about The Mystical City of God in this reflection as some have complained to me about my own citations of it over the years, including in my recently published book, "Blessed Among Women: Defending the Sublime Privileges of the Blessed Virgin Mary."

May we pray to Our Lady to send us the graces to make us as holy simple and as purely devoted to her as was Father Solanus Casey, O.F.M., Cap., a true miracle worker in life and in death.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

Saint Giles, pray for us.

The Twelve Holy Brothers, pray for us.

Saint John the Baptist: Martyred By One Who Would Enjoy Jorge's Favor Today

Although very late in the day on the Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist and the Commemoration of Saint Sabina, I am posting a substantially enlarged and revised version of material used in two other commentaries. Much time has been taken to complete this work, which was delayed by having to get two new front tires after I observed one of them with nothing but exposed steel belts on its outermost edge. A very kind reader was good enough to make this emergency purchase possible.

The next original article on this site is being written, but it will be lengthy and may take another day or two to complete. I want to use much care in its completion in order to make the distinctions are required by its subject-matter.

Thank you for your patience.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

Saint Sabina, pray for us.

Saint Louis IX: From His Mother's Knee

Although late in the day, this is still the Feast of Saint Louis IX, King of France, that great exemplar of the Social Reign of Christ the King. Saint Louis was taught by his holy mother, Blessed Blanche of Castile, to prefer death rather to commit a deliberate Mortal Sin. He heard two Masses a day and was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis, whose patron saint he remains to this day. Saint Louis strove to rule according to the Mind of Christ the King as He had deposited It exclusively in the Catholic Church, recognizing that he, Louis IX, would have to answer to Christ the King at the moment of his own Particular Judgment for how he ruled his subjects. His letter to his son Philip is a succinct summary of the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. It is a model for how everyone in public life should conduct himself in order to please Christ the King as the devoted client of Our Lady, she who is our Immaculate Queen. Vivat Christus Rex! Immaculate Heart of Mary, triumph soon.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

"He Speaks Like A Leftist"

Those who take the time to read this very long commentary on Jorge Mario Bergoglio's sellout of the faithful Catholics in Red China to their Chicom oppressors will see why it took long for me to complete it. Indeed, it took a full day yesterday, the Feast of Saint Bartholomew, into the first hour of today, the Feast of Saint Louis IX, King of France, to finish the work.

There is a great deal of history and documentation in this commentary, which is why it is so very lengthy.

A republished reflection on the life of Saint Louis IX, King of France will be posted on this site later today. The hour is too late (or early) to revise the reflection now.

Once again, thanks for your patience as the work that went into this current commentary was being done.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

Saint Louis IX, King of France, pray for us.

August 23, 2016 Update on the Feast of Saint Philip Benizi and the Commemoration of the Vigil of Saint Bartholomew

As it is going to take another six hours to complete the next original article for this site, I have decided at 12:34 a.m. on the Feast of Saint Philip Benizi that it can wait. It is already a long article, but I assure readers that it will provide them with a very comprehensive history of the conciliar Vatican's two-decades' old plan to sell out the suffering Catholics of Red China who have been persecuted by the Chicom's own rump church, the so-called Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association. I am sorry for the delay, but those who read these articles are used to the length, which is one of the reasons that so few people read them these days. Nevertheless, though, I am writing for the long term in order to provide readers now and in the future with a bit of detail that cannot be provided in a soundbite. All I can do is to apologize for the additional delay and to thank readers for the patience.

Today is the Feast of Saint Philip Benizi, one of the seven founders of the Order of Servites, which was founded to promote devotion to the Seven Dolors of Our Lady. We are very devoted to the Servites and make it a point to pray to their seven founders, including Saint Philip Benizi, every day.

Here is a brief account of this great client of Our Lady's life as found in the readings for Matins in today's Divine Office:

This Philip was a scion of the noble Florentine family of the Benizi from his very cradle he showed signs of holiness. When he had scarcely entered the fifth month of his life, his cries marvellously assumed the form of words, entreating his mother to give some alms to the servants of the Mother of God. While he was a young man at Paris studying letters, but ever of a fervent piety, he stirred up in many the love of our Fatherland which is in heaven. After his return to his own country, the most blessed Virgin appeared to him in a vision, and specially called on him to enter the Order of her Servants, which had then been newly founded. He withdrew himself to a cave on Monte Senario, where he led a life hard as touching the chastisement of the flesh, but sweet with thoughts of the agonies of Christ. Thence he came forth and went through nearly all Europe and great part of Asia, preaching the Gospel, founding Guilds everywhere in honour of the Seven Sorrows of the Mother of God, and extending his Order by the wonderful example of his own holy life.

He was forced against his own wishes to undertake the duties of General of his Order, and, in his love of God and of the spreading of the Catholic Faith, sent forth brethren to preach the Gospel of Christ in Russia. He himself went through many cities of Italy, stilled the raging quarrels of the inhabitants, and recalled many of them to their obedience to the Bishop of Rome. He left nothing undone to forward the salvation of his neighbour, and brought the most depraved wretches to leave the slough of their sins, to do penance, and to love Jesus Christ. He was most earnest in prayer, and was often seen to fall into trances while engaged in it. Virginity he so prized that to his very last breath he kept it unsullied by dint of self-imposed and stern penances.

Everywhere appeared in him an extraordinary pity towards the poor, whereof it is a famous instance that at the village of Camiliano in the territory of Sienna he gave his own garment to a naked leper who asked him for an alms, and as soon as the said leper had cast it about him he was straightway cleansed of his leprosy. The fame of this miracle spread far and wide, and some of the Cardinals who had assembled at Viterbo after the death of Clement IV., to elect a successor to him, cast their eyes upon Philip, with whose heavenly wisdom they were also acquainted. When the man of God found how things stood, lest he should be constrained to take upon him the burden of the Pastoral Office, he went and hid himself on Montagnate, until Gregory X. had been proclaimed Pope. By his prayers he obtained medicinal powers for the waters in these mountains, which are still called St Philip's Baths. At length, (on the 22nd of August,) in the year 1285, he departed this life in a most holy manner at Todi, while embracing the image of Christ hanging upon the Cross, which he called his book. At his grave the blind received their sight, the lame walked, and the dead were raised. Pope Clement X., finding him famous for these and many other great signs and wonders, enrolled his name among those of the Saints. (Matins, Divine Office, Feast of Saint Philip Benizi.)

All To Our Lord Jesus Christ Through the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Today is the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, that heart that was pierced with Seven Swords of Sorrow during the Life of her Divine Son, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus was formed out of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. These twin hearts of matchless love suffered as one and they beat as one while on earth and they have beat as one in Heaven since Our Lady was Assumed there body and soul after her death.

Our Lady's Immaculate Heart was unstained by Original Sin or Actual Sins. The Immaculate Heart of the Mother of God, therefore, was capable of a purity of love of God and of her fellow men that is almost indescribable. Our Lady's Most Pure, Most Holy Heart despises the sins that caused her Divine Son to suffer in His Sacred Humanity during His Passion and Death but at the same time is full of a perfect and completely pure maternal compassion for erring sinners such as you and me.

Our Lord, showing us His infinite compassion for us erring sinners, has sent us His Most Blessed Mother to provide us with her maternal assistance to get home to Heaven as members of His true Church founded upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope. We have been given the Rosary, the Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel, the Miraculous Medal, and the Green Scapular through her loving hands, through which flow the graces won for us by the shedding of Our Lord's Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross. Her apparition to Juan Diego and the miraculous image of herself she left on his tilma helped to convert millions of Indians to the true Faith in the Americas. Our Lady ratified Pope Pius IX's solemn proclamation of her Immaculate Conception by proclaiming herself to Saint Bernadette Soubirous to be the Immaculate Conception on March 25, 1858. And Our Lady's appearance in the Cova da Iria from May 13, 1917, to October 13, 1917, gave us Heaven's Peace Plan, one that runs through her Immaculate Heart.

We must endeavor at all times to fulfill, as far as we are able in this time of apostasy and betrayal, Our Lady's Fatima Message in our own lives, especially by praying as many Rosaries each day as our states-in-life permit and by living penitentially as the consecrated slaves of her Divine Son through her own Immaculate Heart.

The era of apostasy and betrayal will end when the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is made manifest.

Speaking of the era of apostasy and betrayal, the next original article on this site is a lengthy review of the conciliar Vatican's surrender to the Chicom-created-and-controlled "Catholic Patriotic Association" that began during the tenure of "Saint John Paul II" and will be concluded in the near future by "Pope Francis," whose sell out to the Red Chinese calls to mind Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini/Paul VI's betrayal of the Primate of Hungary, Josef Cardinal Mindszenty.

We can play our roles, small though they may be, in helping to bring about this triumph.

What are we waiting for?

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now, and at the hour of our death.

Saints Timothy, Hippolytus, and Symphorian, pray for us.

(Notice of the publication of "Blessed Among Women: Defending the Sublime Privileges of the Blessed Virgin Mary" was published yesterday afternoon. Please scroll below.)

Announcing Publication of "Blessed Among Women: Defending the Sublime Privileges of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Although it has taken a long enough time to do so, Blessed Among Women: Defending the Sublime Privileges of the Blessed Virgin Maryis now available for purchase at the Create Space Bookstore. The book is also available at Amazon and in a Kindle edition.

The book is an effort to refute several of Jorge Mario Bergoglio's unspeakably horrific blasphemies against Our Lady. Additionally, the book examines one particular instance of the Argentine Apostate's many blasphemies against the Third Person of the Most Blessed Trinity, God the Holy Ghost, under Whose Divine inspiration every word of Sacred Scripture was written. By doing this, of course, Senor Bergoglio, the lay Jesuit who is a textbook Modernist, is continuing the perverse "tradition" that was pioneered by his precessors, especially Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria/Paul VI, Karol Josef Wojtyla/John Paul II, and Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, each of whom specialized in distorting and misrpresenting the words of Sacred Scripture and of the Fathers and Doctors of Holy Mother Church in order to make appear to be witnesses in behalf of one Modernist presupposition after another that has been enshrined by the ethos of conciliarism.

The print book costs $10.00. The Kindle edition is $9.99.

I can now return to the work of my next original article, which was delayed by all of the formatting and reformatting that the Create Space "review" process required me to do, particularly yesterday, Saturday, August 20, 2016, the Feast of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux within the Octave of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thank you for your patience as I spent the time that was necessary to complete the book for publication. Actually, Bergoglio's relative silence this month has given me the chance to publish the book. Given Bergoglio's visit to the United States of America and his "synod" last year, to say nothing of the release of Amoris Laetitia five months ago now, it was just hard to find the time necessary to put the book together, edit it (chapter one was proofread by a volunteer to whom I am greatly indebted), uploaded it, and then deal with the formatting issues.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

Saint Jane Fremiot de Chantal, pray for us.

ON THE FEAST OF SAINT BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX

Well, I have completed the editing associated with my next book, which should be available for purchase by tomorrow morning, Sunday, August 21, 2016, the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost and the Commemoration of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal. This means I can now resume work on my next original article for this site. I thank the eight remaining readers of this site for their patience in the middle of my work on the forthcoming book and during a series of events with our house that neeeded immediate attention.

As noted by the title of this "Updates and Summary" entry, today is the Feast of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, who revived devotion to Our Lady in the Twelfth Cenutry. Here is an account of the life of this wonderful client of Our Lady, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, a defender of the Catholic Faith and a Doctor of Holy Mother Church, as found in the readings for Matins in today’s Divine Office:

Bernard was born (in the year of salvation 1091) at a decent place in Burgundy called Fontaines. On account of extraordinary good looks, he was as a boy very much sought after by women, but he could never be turned aside from his resolution to keep chaste. To fly from these temptations of the devil, he determined at two-and-twenty years of age to enter the Monastery of Citeaux, whence the Cistercian Order took its rise. When this resolution of Bernard's became known, his brothers did all their diligence to change his purpose, but he only became the more eloquent and happy about it. Them and others he so brought over to his mind, that thirty young men entered the same Order along with him. As a monk he was so given to fasting, that as often as he had to eat, so often he seemed to be in pain. He exercised himself wonderfully in watching and prayer, and was a great lover of Christian poverty. Thus he led on earth an heavenly life, purged of all care and desire for transitory things.

He was a burning and shining light of lowliness, mercifulness, and kindness. His concentration of thought was such, that he hardly used his senses except to do good works, in which latter he acted with admirable wisdom. Thus occupied, he refused the Bishoprics of Genoa, Milan, and others, which were offered to him, declaring that he was unworthy of so high a sphere of duty. Being made Abbat of Clairvaux in 1115, he built monasteries in many places, wherein the excellent rules and discipline of Bernard long flourished. When Pope Innocent II., in 1138, restored the monastery of St Vincent and St Anastasius at Rome, Bernard set over it the Abbat who was afterwards the Supreme Pontiff Eugene III., and who is also the same to whom he addressed his book upon Consideration.

He was the author of many writings, in which it is manifest that his teaching was rather given him of God, than gained by hard work. In consequence of his high reputation for excellence, he was called by the most exalted Princes to act as arbiter of their disputes, and for this end, and to settle affairs of the Church, he often went to Italy. He was an eminent helper to Pope Innocent II., in putting down the schism of Peter Leoni, and worked to this end, both at the Courts of the Emperor and of Henry King of England, and in the Council of Pisa. He fell asleep in the Lord, (at Clairvaux, on the 20th day of August,) in the year 1153,  the sixty-third year of his age. He was famous for miracles, and Pope Alexander III. numbered him among the Saints. Pope Pius VIII., acting on the advice of the Congregation of Sacred Rites, declared and confirmed St Bernard a Doctor of the Universal Church. He also commanded that all should use the Mass and Office for him as for a Doctor, and granted perpetual yearly plenary indulgences to all who should visit Churches of the Cistercian Order upon the Feastday of this Saint. (The Divine Office, Matins, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux.)

His words below should give us great confidence in this time when we can see the convergence of the forces of Antichrist in the world and in the counterfeit church of concilairism:

Whoever you are, when you find yourself tossed by storms and tempests upon this world's raging waters, rather than walking upon firm dry land, never take your eyes from the brightness of this start lest you be overwhelmed by the storm. When the winds of temptation blow, when you run upon the rocks of disaster, look the star. Cry out to Mary! If you are cast away upon the waves of pride or ambition, of detraction or jealousy, look to the star. Cry out to Mary!! When anger, avarice, or the lusts of the flesh assail the ship of your mind, look up to Mary. When you are worried by the enormity of your sins, troubled by a confused conscience, or terrified by the horrors of the judgment to come, when you begin to drown in the bottomless pit of sorrow or sink in the abyss of despair, think of Mary.

In danger, in difficulties, think of Mary. Call upon Mary! Never let her name be absent from your lips or absent from your heart. If you would obtain the help of her prayers, do not neglect to follow the example of her conduct. If you follow her, you will not stray; if you pray to her, you need not despair. If you think of her, you will not err; sustained by her, you will never fall; protected by her, you need not fear; guided by her, you will walk without weariness. If she smiles upon you, you will succeed. You will experience in your own heart with what justice it is said And the Virgin's name was Mary.

With confidence in Our Lady and praying as many Rosaries each day as our state-in-life permits, therefore, we continue our defense of the Faith as we also seek to make reparation for our sins and those of the whole world as her consecrated slaves of her Divine Son, Christ the Kingm, through her own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. We bear each of the crosses of the present moment with joy and gratitude, knowing that the only thing that matters is dying in a state of Sanctifying Grace as a member of the Catholic Church, outside of which there is no salvation and without which there can be no true social order.

Our Lady seeks the conversion, not the reaffirmation, of sinners. We must beg her for our own conversion on a daily basis so that we will be better able to offer her all that we have and do during the course of a day to be disposed of as she sees fit the honor and glory of God and for the conversion of other poor sinners.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, triumph soon!

August 19, 2016, Update on the Feast of Saint John Eudes

As I have been busy finalizing a relatively short book for publication, which I hope will take place later today, Friday, August 19, 2016, the Feast of Saint John Eudes, the next original article on this site, which is already in development and promises to be a very long and detailed look into a certain aspect of Jorge Mario Bergoglio's ready acceptance of a certain kind of political ideology as something from which Catholics can "learn" in order to "build the better world," will not appear until Sunday, August 21, 2016, the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost and the Commemoration of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal.

Saint John Eudes, whose feast is celebrated today, Friday, August 19, 2016, helped to establish devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus some thirty years before the revelations that Our Lord gave to Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque. He also promoted devotion to the Holy Heart of Mary. His own priestly heart was such that he stressed the importance of priests to have the very Hearts of Jesus and Mary in the confessional, exhorting sinners to amend their lives, to be sure, but doing so with an understanding of the frailties of fallen human nature and the manner in which Our Lord wants His Mercy to be extended to the souls for whom He shed every single drop of His Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross. Saint John Eudes will help us to trust in the tender Mercies of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary during these times of apostasy and betrayal, especially as we pray the Holy Rosary to which he was so personally devoted.

Today's Divine Office teaches about the remarkable life of this great apostle of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Most Pure Heart of Mary:

John was born in the year 1601, of pious and respectable parents, at a village commonly known as Ri, in the diocese of Seez. While still a boy, when he was fed with the bread of Angels, he cheerfully made a vow of perpetual chastity. Having been received at the College of Caen, directed by the Fathers of the Society of Jesus, he was conspicuous for a remarkable piety; and, committing himself to the protection of the Virgin Mary, when still a youth he signed with his own blood, the special covenant he had entered into with her. Having completed his courses of letters and of philosophy with great distinction, and having spurned opportunities of marriage which had been arranged for him, he enrolled himself with the Congregation of the Oratory de Bérulle, and was ordained priest at Paris. He was on fire with a marvellous love towards his neighbour: for he took the most constant pains in caring for both the souls and bodies of those smitten with the Asiatic plague, in many different places. He was made Rector of the Oratorian house at Caen, but since he had been thinking for a long time of educating suitable young men for the ministry of the Church, earnestly asking for the divine assistance, with a brave spirit he most regretfully departed from the associates with whom he had lived for twenty years.

Accordingly, associating five priests with himself, in the year 1643, on the feastday of the Annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary, he founded a Congregation of Priests, to whom he gave the most holy names of Jesus and Mary, and opened the first seminary at Caen; and a great many others followed immediately in Normandy and Brittany, also founded by him. For the recalling of sinful women to a Christian life, he founded the Order of Our Lady of Charity; of which most noble tree, the Congregation of the Good Shepherd of Angers is a branch. Furthermore, he founded the Society of the Admirable Heart of the Mother of God, and other charitable institutions. He was the author of many excellent treatises, and laboured as an Apostolic Missionary to the very end of his life, preaching the Gospel in very many villages, towns, and cities, and even in the royal court.

His matchless zeal was very conspicuous in promoting the salutary devotion towards the most sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, whose liturgical worship he was the first of all to devise, although not without some divine inspiration. He is therefore held to be the father, the teacher, and the apostle of that worship. Courageously withstanding the doctrines of the Jansenists, he preserved unalterable obedience towards the Chair of Peter, and he constantly prayed to God, both for his enemies as well as for his brethren. Broken by so many labours, rather than by years, desiring to be freed and to be with Christ, on the 19th day of August, 1680, frequently repeating the sweet names of Jesus and Mary, he died in peace. As he became illustrious by many miracles, Pope Pius X added him to the list of the Blessed, and as he still shone forth with new signs and wonders, Pope Pius XI, in the holy year and on the day of Pentecost, placed him among the Saints, and extended his Office and Mass to the universal Church. (Matins, The Divine Office, Feast of Saint John Eudes.)

Perhaps we can, in honor of Saint John Eudes, recite this salutation of his to Our Lady, who is meant to reign as the Queen of all men and all nations here on earth:

Hail Mary! Daughter of God the Father.

Hail Mary! Mother of God the Son.

Hail Mary! Spouse of God the Holy Ghost.
