[Update: A few brief comments about the late Joseph Alois Ratzinger/Antipope Benedict XVI have been added to this introduction to my reflection on Pope Saint Sylvester I. A complete commentay on the late antipope will follow no later than the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus.]
Unlike the late Joseph Alois Ratzinger/Benedict XVI or the very much alive Jorge Mario Bergoglio (or Angelo Roncalli/John XXIII, Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini/Paul VI, Albino Luciani/John Paul I, or Karol Josef Wojtyla/John Paul II), Saint Sylvester I did not abide heresy. He did not ent iable in the slightest. He confronted it as he sought the conversion of all non-Catholics to the true Faith. His firm defense of the Holy Faith as Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ's Vicar on earth must inspire us in our day to seek his intercession for the needs of the Church Militant on earth as she suffers in the catacombs as pretenders to the papal throne make their open accommodations to propositions that have been anathematized time and time again in the past by true popes and/or dogmatic councils.
The Church arose from the catacombs during the pontificate of Pope Saint Sylvester I. May his intercession for us now help to bring about a like arising from the catacombs in our own day as the falsehoods of the counterfeit church of conciliarism are wiped away once and for all.
Although so many Catholics in the world are without the Real Presence of Our Lord to adore, those who are so privileged in this time of apostasy and betrayal would be wise to end this year by spending time before Him in prayer as we pray our Rosaries in thanksgiving for the favors and graces received this year, in reparation for our sins and those of others this year, in petition for our spiritual and temporal needs and, of course, in adoration of the good God Who preserves our existence and Who wants us to show forth our love for Him by our fidelity to His teaching and our sorrow for our sins as members of His true Church.
I learned of the death of Antipope Emeritus Ratzinger/Benedict XVI upon arising on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Some of the commentaries I have read thus far that have extolled him as a "conservative" defender of Catholic doctrine are as detached from reality as those who think that Donald John Trump is a defender of a just social order despite his support for perversity.
Despite the fact, barring any private mystical revelation, the state of any soul after death is known only to God Himself, it remains the case that the late Joseph Alois Ratzinger/Benedict XVI made war against the Catholic Faith throughout the entirety of seventy-one and one-half years of his priestly life, starting with the nature of dogmatic truth, which was and remains a direct attack upon the nature of God Himself. Each one of Ratziinger's heresies flowed easily from his embrace and propagation of the "new theology's" repackaging of dogmatic evolutionism courtesy of the Hegelian named Father Hans Urs von Balthsar, whom Ratzinger once praised as the most "cultured" man of the Twentieth Century. Unfortunately, being "cultured" is not the same thing as being faithful, which is a prerequisite for pesonal sanctity.
Pray for the dead. Pray for God's mercy for all the souls of the faithful departed. Do not, however, seek to project onto a man who was under suspicion for heresy by the Holy Office in the final years of Pope Pius XII's pontificate, a Catholicism that was not there simply because he issued the trap, since snapped, that was Summorum Pontificum. Summorum Pontificum could never undo his warfare against the Holy Faith as a priest, professor, "bishop," "cardnal," or "pope," and those who look the other way at his long record of heresy simply because of Summorum Pontificum are doing the cause of truth no favor at all.
More will follow by the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus, although several of the articles listed below are about the late antipope and provide a preview of what will be in my commentary.
Although I do not have time presently to update the long neglected donations page, suffice it to say that non-tax-deductible financial gifts would be most welcomed at this time.
I am not as prolific as I used to be. However, I continue to do what I can as my time and physical strength permit. The following commentaries represent a small sampling of the work done in the past year:
