Still Heading for a Bad End

by Thomas A. Droleskey

The devils that abound in the so-called People's Republic of China have done everything possible in the past fifty-seven years to destroy belief in the Catholic Faith amongst the three million or so Chinese Catholics, including starting a schismatic, state-sponsored "church," established fifty years ago this year and condemned by Pope Pius XII in Ad Apostolorum Principis, July 29, 1958, and staffed by apostate bishops who accepted Communism and, ultimately, the government's "population control" policies. A diabolically complex situation has emerged as priests of the state-sponsored "Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association" have been said to have infiltrated the underground church in Red China, thereby creating a network of double and triple agents whose true loyalties are hard to discern.

The situation amongst Catholics in Red China is further complicated by the fact that the Catholics who do not belong to the state-sponsored Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association believe, in all good faith, mind you (there is not exactly a lot information about the "Second" Vatican Council and its problems in Red China), that they are doing God's will by their association with the conciliar "popes," whom they believe to be legitimate and legitimately interested in their own welfare. In other words, ladies and gentlemen, the situation in Red China amongst our fellow Catholics is a gigantic mess, which is about to become even more complex as Joseph Ratzinger is said to be ready to issue a letter soon, probably when the "motu proprio" "liberating" the modernized version of the Immemorial Mass of Tradition is released, announcing some kind of rapprochement with the Red Chinese government and the Chinese Patriotic Association, many of whose "bishops" have been appointed in recent years with the tacit, if not the explicit, approval of the conciliar Vatican, as happened in 2004. It is unknown at this point whether the conciliar Vatican has insisted that these bishops and priests of the Chinese Patriotic Association it allegedly "recognizes" must renounce support for Communism and for the government's "population control" policies, which include forced abortion and forced sterilization and limiting each family to but one child.

Persecution of Catholic bishops, some of whom are legitimate bishops, having been consecrated in the old rite years ago, and priests and members of the laity in the underground church in Red China, however, continues unabated in spite of whatever agreement that the conciliar Vatican may have reached with the Red Chinese government. Consider this press release, dated June 6, 2097, from the Cardinal Kung Foundation:

Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A. —  Bishop Jia Zhiguo 賈治國, the underground Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Zheng Ding 正定 in Hebei 河北 Province, was arrested again by the public security bureau at approximately 9:30 in the morning (Beijing time) on June 5, 2007. We do not know why the bishop was taken away, nor do we know where he is. As of this press time, which is approximately 12:30 midnight Beijing time 15 hours after his arrest, he has not been released. Unconfirmed sources have reported that, while the bishop was being taken away, in a conversation between the police and the crowd, the police were overheard to say that the bishop would be incarcerated for approximately 10 days.

Bishop Jia is 73 years old and was ordained a bishop in 1980. He was previously in jail for approximately 20 years and has been under strict surveillance for many years by the Chinese authorities. He takes care of approximately 100 handicapped orphans in his house. As far as we know, he has been arrested ten times since January 2004.

Ever since Bishop Jia was released from police custody on September 25, 2006 after being held there for more than 10 months, his pastoral activities were more severely limited by the Chinese authorities than previously. He was not even allowed to step out of the courtyard of his residence, was not allowed to administer the "Last Rites (anointing of the sick)" for his dying parishioners, and was not allowed any visitors. When his uncle, an elderly priest, fell and was severely injured, after numerous requests, the bishop was allowed to briefly visit him only once under strict surveillance of the police.

Joseph Kung, the President of the Cardinal Kung Foundation, said: "I once again urgently call on the Olympic Committee to take note of this arrest of Bishop Jia together with other serious violations of the human rights in China and urge the Committee to cancel the 2008 Olympic Games in China because it is so obvious and transparent that these violations of the human rights in China, as exemplified by the repeated arrest of this peaceful religious prelate, are not in conformity with the principle, spirit and good name of the Olympics."

Mr. Joseph Kung, who is the nephew of the late Ignatius Cardinal Kung, the Bishop of Shanghai who was imprisoned for over thirty years for his refusal to renounce Pope Pius XII (Bishop Kung was taken to a dog-track stadium in Shanghai in 1956 and spoke the following words into a microphone rather than to denounce Pope Pius XII and the Catholic Church, "Long live the Pope! Long live Christ the King!"), is quite correct to make an appeal to the International Olympic Committee to cancel the 2008 games that are scheduled to take place in Beijing. Unfortunately, however, Mr. Kung's steadfastness in support of the persecuted Catholics of the underground church in Red China and his most correct stance about the 2008 Olympic games will be undermined entirely if Joseph Ratzinger announces a rapprochement with the Red Chinese authorities. Only Mr. Kung and a few other organizations will then speak up for the Catholics who will continue to suffer at the hands of the Red Chinese government.

Leaving aside all consideration of the legitimacy of the sacraments administered by any bishop or priest in Red China, whether in the underground church or in the state-sponsored lapdog organization, it should be clear to one and all that the Red Chinese authorities, whether at the national or provincial or local levels, hate anyone whose brand of Catholicism does not conform the conditions and limitations that they have imposed upon Catholic belief and practice. Compound the crimes against the Faith committed by the Red Chinese authorities in the past fifty years with the crimes being committed against the Faith by the conciliarists worldwide and one has a recipe for diabolical complexity and confusion as individual Catholics in Red China are hounded and persecuted, which will, as noted in the previous paragraph, continue even after the announcement of a concordat between the conciliar Vatican and Red Chinese authorities. The consequences of any kind of "agreements" made with the Red Chinese authorities have never been particularly helpful, shall we say as a understatement, to the pursuit of the common temporal good in Red China or elsewhere in the world. More on that in a moment or two.

Another example of the hatred of Red Chinese authorities for the Catholic Faith--and proof of how these authorities are in the grip of the devil (after all, their immortal souls are the devil's hostages by means of Original Sin)--is the decision made to blow up a shrine in honor of Our Lady in Tianjiajing, which is located in the Henan province of China:

Rome (AsiaNews) – Next June 16th pilgrims and faithful from Henan will not be allowed to go on pilgrimage to the sanctuary in Tianjiajing. The government from the province of Henan has in fact decreed that the historic sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be blown up with dynamite; a complete ban on Catholics organizing their annual pilgrimage; a complete ban on any religious gathering or function being celebrated in the area. A statue of the Virgin, over one hundred years old, is destined to be destroyed along with 14 stations of The Way of the Cross which punctuate the entrance to the shrine.

The sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel lies in Tianjiajing (Linxian district), in the diocese of Anyang, in the reaches of a mountain which dominates majestic scenery. It was ordered built by PIME missionary Msgr. Stefano Scarsella, then apostolic vicar to northern Henan, to thank the Virgin for preserving them from the dangers of the Boxers persecution in 1900. The shrine was built in1903-1905.

The elegantly styled neo-roman Church was almost completely destroyed first by the Japanese in the Second World War, then by the Red Guard in the 60’s. Since 1979, the faithful returned to celebrating their faith with solemn liturgies and pilgrimages, travelling many kilometres on foot to the sanctuary ruins and representation of the Lourdes Grotto, where still today the original Marian statue can be seen.

According to AsiaNews sources, May 12th last, on the feast of Our Lady of China, the diocese of Anyang distributed leaflets on the upcoming annual pilgrimage to Tianjiajing on July 16th feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Usually the pilgrimage gathers 45-50 thousand people. Since then the Department for Religious Affairs has kept strict surveillance of all priests, forcing them to hold “discussions” to convince them not to go ahead with the pilgrimage.

May 11th last the secretary general of Henan province gave a personal order to cancel the pilgrimage and spread the order to the neighbouring provinces of Hebei and Shanxi.

To occupy the site and prevent any form of sit-in, the provincial government began holding military exercises in the area of the shrine on May 12, mobilizing over 700 soldiers.

Still today all roads leading to the sanctuary are closed. All cars and pedestrians who pass by are stopped and searched.

The provincial governor’s decision has shocked the faithful of the diocese because just this year they began rebuilding the sanctuary, offering money and hours of work, repairing the road and the stations of the Way of the Cross which lie along it.

In answer on May 14th the government of Anyang city revoked the sanctuary’s permit and the permit for the pilgrimage, defining them as “illegal religious activity” and May 16th he issued a resolution which denies access to the land to Anyang Church, requisitioning the sanctuary site.

“It’s unbelievable that they have done this “, one faithful tells AsiaNews. “These local communist leaders don’t even know the central governments laws governing religious polices, they only create useless and dangerous tension”. “We will never give in “says another faithful. “We are not afraid and we will defend our legitimate rights to the very end”.

In the meantime, since the end of May a “working group” from the local government has installed itself in Tianjiajing.

According to some suppositions, the local government move requisitioning the lands and abolishing the pilgrimage is due to the geographical position of the Church, on the summit, above a valley ideal for the building of a hotel or perhaps country villa of some Party member.

Faithful from the diocese of Anyang have launched an appeal through AsiaNews: “We ask all our brothers and sisters in the Lord – they say – to pray for us and spread our message to all the faithful of the world”. report from China Aid : Henan government: destroy the sanctuary of Our Lady of Carmel in Tianjiajing

No Catholic can read this story and not be shaken to the core of his being. Dynamiting a shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel? Destroying a representation of the Stations of the Cross? Yes, the devil's hatred for the Catholic Faith knows no limits. As far as I can tell, no one in the conciliar Vatican has made any statement on this outrage. No "bishop" in the conciliar structures in the United States of America or elsewhere has reacted to this story. No official of the government of the United States of America has acknowledged this story or denounced the pending action of the Red Chinese authorities. The destruction of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tianjiajing, Henan, will proceed without a word of protest from the civil leaders of the international community.

At second glance, however, we should not be surprised that provincial authorities in Henan would be bold enough to order the destruction of a shrine dedicated to Our Lady at a time when authorities at the national level in Red China are said to have entered into some kind of agreement with the conciliar Vatican. It is frequently the case in Red China that provincial authorities do the bidding of the masters in Beijing by giving the appearance of acting "independently" when the truth of the matter is that decisions of this kind have to have at least some kind of tacit approval from officials in Beijing. Watch, however, for apologists of the forthcoming "concordat" between the conciliar Vatican and the Red Chinese government to exculpate the butchers of Beijing by saying that the decision of the provincial authorities in Henan were "unapproved," thus creating the false impression of "tensions" between officials at the national and provincial levels in Red China.

There is quite a a special irony here. Diocesan authorities in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism worldwide have destroyed the sanctuaries of Catholic, including the destruction of high altars and of statues of Our Lady, Saint Joseph and the other saints, going so far sometimes to "modernize" various shrines. "Conservative" defenders of the conciliar Vatican try to convince themselves and others that the "wreckovation" of Catholic churches and shrines has not been "mandated" by the "Second" Vatican Council, that one can point to no conciliar Vatican "document" approving of such things. However, this self-serving approach begs the question rather considerably. All manner of "conservative" Catholic groups and individuals and journals have protested against various wreckovations, giving concrete photographic evidence of outrages committed against the representations of Our Lord and Our Lady and Saint Joseph and the other saints, providing affidavits of finding statues in dumpsters outside of churches as they had been undergoing the process of wreckovation. Has the conciliar Vatican ever stopped these projects? Has the conciliar Vatican ever removed a diocesan "bishop" under whose watch such things have taken place?

Oh, lest someone point out that the conciliar Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments tried in 2001 to put a stop to the wreckovation of the Cathedral of Saint John in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, "archbishop" Rembert G. Weakland, who had to resign in disgrace a year later because of a perverted "relationship" he had with a seminarian, proceeded ahead nevertheless, knowing that Karol Wojtyla/John Paul II would not dare overturn his plans, which turned out to be the case. Eager to gloat about his victory over what he considered to be the "reactionary" forces of "conservatives" in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Weakland placed the following inscription, written in Latin, at the entrance to the cathedral:

Cathedralem hanc aedem liturgicas omnino [iuxta? secundum?] normas Vaticano II venientes ex Concilio magna non sine difficultate renovatam sollemniter atque feliciter IX die mensis Februarii anno MMII

Archepiscopus ipse Ordinarius inauguravit iterum dedicavit Rembertus George Weakland OSB.

Translation:

"This cathedral was renovated, not without great difficulty, exactly according to the liturgical norms of Vatican II. Solemnly and joyously inaugurated and rededicated February 9, 2002, by Archbishop and Ordinary Rembert George Weakland, OSB".(Helen Hitchcock - Milwaukee:Cathedral of Saint John Reopens after Controversial Renovation)

Yes, even those conciliar "cardinals" in the Vatican whose latent sensus Catholicus has not been obliterated entirely by the doctrrinal and liturgical revolutions wrought by conciliarism cannot withstand its logical consequences as they manifest themselves at the diocesan and parish levels around the world. Diocesan officials get their way all of the time. They are rarely reprimanded for their schemes to revolutionize liturgical and pastoral practices beyond that which has the "explicit, "official" stamp of the conciliar Vatican. They are never demanded to apologize to the faithful for their schemes and their blasphemes and their heresies.

Oh, yes, the rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe was removed in the 1990s for stating publicly that the miraculous apparition of Our Lady to the Venerable Juan Diego did not occur. His removal, however, was effected as a result of the outcry of thousands upon thousands of outraged Mexican Catholics, the same sort of public outcry from Catholics that caused Karol Wojtyla to request the resignation on January 14, 1995, Jacques Gaillot, the conciliar "bishop" of Evreux, France, following his public support for the French abortion pill. He had been, however, a longtime supporter of women priests and the use of a certain form of contraception. Gaillot is still alive. He is still a "bishop" in perfectly good canonical standing in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism.

Such cases are rarities, demanded by popular action. Inaction in the face of egregious abuses to the souls for whom Our Lord shed every single drop of His Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross is the norm, not the exception, with conciliar Rome.

Not even actual, proven instances of "episcopal" corruption promoted Wojtyla to remove conciliar "bishops" until lawsuits were filed (as in the case of the corrupt "bishop" Daniel L. Ryan of Springfield, Illinois, who permitted articles openly supporting women "priests" in his diocesan newspaper at the same time he was harassing two of his clergy and engaging in the grossest of personal conduct, information on which had been presented to the Vatican in early 1997 but did not result in Ryan's resignation until the filing of a lawsuit in 1999) or until the secular media began to report on said corruption and the cover up of various scandals. The garden variety form of spiritual abuses (denials of articles contained in the Deposit of above and above the "official" errors of conciliarsm, toleration of said denials by conciliar "bishops," the hiring of heterodox teachers and invitations extended to the most malodorous anti-Catholic speakers, the corruption of the innocence and purity of the young by means of explicit classroom instruction in matters pertaining to the Sixth and Ninth Commandments, praising of a motion picture depicting perversion favorably, as happened in the case of George Niederauer, Ratzinger's appointee to replace William Levada as the "archbishop" of San Francisco) are overlooked by conciliar officials in Rome as those responsible for them climb up the clerical ladders.

For example, what, exactly, has happened to "bishop" Patrick McGrath of the Diocese of San Jose, California, for having said three years ago that the Gospels do not contain historically accurate accounts of Our Lord's Passion and Death? Nothing.

What, exactly, has happened to Monsignor Luciano Gomes Paulo Guerra, the conciliar rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, for hosting an "ecumenical" conference in Fatima in 2003 in which the following statements, reported by an eyewitness, Mr. John Vennari, in Hindu Ritual Performed at Fatima Shrine, were made? Suspension of his conciliar faculties? A public reprimand? Ah, yes, there was discussion in 2004 that the conciliar Vatican was demanding Guerra's resignation. Empty discussion. Here is a photograph of the current rector of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity taken from the website of the Sancutary of Fatima:

The name, my friends, of this current rector is none other than Fr. Luciano Gomes Paulo Guerra. Empty talk. Inaction in the face of sacrilege and public support for syncretism and the worship of false gods.

Rectory and Departments CHURCH OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

Here is Mr. Vennari's summary of the events in 2003:

  • The ecumenical theologian Father Jacques Dupuis called the defined dogma "outside the Church there is no salvation", a "horrible text" that must be rejected;

  • Dupuis claimed that all religions are positively willed by God and that non-Catholics do not have to convert to the one true Catholic Church for unity and salvation. He said that Catholics and non-Catholics are equal members in the "Reign of God".

  • Dupuis also said that the purpose of ecumenical dialogue is not to convert others to the Catholic Church, but to make "a Christian a better Christian, a Hindu a better Hindu";

  • Dupuis said further that the Holy Ghost is present and operative in the "sacred books" and "sacred rites" of Buddhism and Hinduism;

  • The Congress speakers placed all religious sanctuaries on the same level, whether they be the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, the Mecca of Islam or the Kyoto of Shintoism.

  • Father Arul Irudayam, Rector of the Marian Shrine in Vailankanni, India told the audience on Sunday that Hindus now perform their pagan rituals inside the Sanctuary of the Catholic Shrine.

These and other outrages elicited nothing but praise and applause from the audience, including applause from Shrine Rector Guerra, the Bishop of Leiria-Fatima, and the Apostolic Delegate of Portugal.5 (I was an eyewitness to their reaction). Cardinal Policarpo of Lisbon, and Archbishop Fitzgerald from the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, also voiced approval for the ecumenical errors spouted at the Congress.

News also surfaced that Fatima would now become an "Interfaith Shrine," where all religions would be allowed to perform their pagan rituals. Archbishop Fitzgerald and Rector Guerra issued half-hearted denials of this. But their denials only affirmed the ecumenical and pan-religious orientation now underway at Fatima.7

Yet because of these half-hearted denials, many shallow individuals — who should know better — exclaimed that there is no danger of Fatima losing its Catholic identity because Church officials have told us that Fatima will not be an interfaith Shrine.

Mr. Vennari's summary of the 2003 "ecumenical" conference at the Shrine of Our Lady in Fatima was contained in a report on a sacrilege that occurred in the Chapel of the Apparitions itself on May 5, 2004, when Hindu "priests" offered "worship" to their false gods. You know, my friends, the Red Chinese authorities in Henan province hate anything to do with the Catholic Faith, especially Our Lady. At least, however, that are honest about the evil that they do The most revolutionary of the conciliarist revolutionaries in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism profess to be Catholics while they harbor a hatred of the truths of the Holy Faith and attack and deconstruct everything to do about Our Lady's role in the economy of salvation and the facts associated with her apparitions that have been approved officially by Holy Mother Church. Consider this passage from Mr. Vennari's report:

All the invocations of the pagans are hateful to God because all their gods are devils."

Saint Francis Xavier wrote these words to Saint Ignatius about the pagan religion of Hinduism. Francis Xavier, writing from India at the time, merely restates the truth from the infallible Sacred Scriptures: "The gods of the Gentiles are devils". (Psalm 95:5)

Yet on May 5, 2004 — the Feast of Pope Saint Pius V — the Little Chapel of the Apparitions at Fatima was allowed to be used for a pagan Hindu ceremony. This Little Chapel (also called the Capelinha) is built on the site where Our Blessed Mother appeared to the 3 children of Fatima in 1917.

News of the Hindu worship service at Fatima was broadcast on May 5 on SIC, a national television station in Portugal. CFN spoke with two people in Portugal, independent from one another, who saw the televised newscast. The May 22 Portugal News also reported on the event.

According to the broadcast, a busload of Hindus were allowed to commandeer the sanctuary inside the Fatima Capelinha and to use the Catholic altar for their rituals. The SIC newscaster said, "This is an unprecedented unique moment in the history of the shrine. The Hindu priest, or Sha Tri, prays on the altar the Shaniti Pa, the prayer for peace."

The outrage occurred with the blessing of Shrine Rector Msgr. Guerra. No one may use the Capelinha without Rector Guerra’s permission.

The Hindus wore traditional garb, a Hindu "priest" in traditional Hindu vestments led the ceremony that consisted in the offering of flowers and food. This would seem to indicate that the Hindus performed their pagan puja, a ritual in which the offering of flowers and food is central.

After the Hindu worship service at the Catholic altar, the Hindus were escorted by Fatima authorities to see a model of the huge, round-shaped modernistic shrine at Fatima now under construction, a fifty million dollar eyesore that will blot the landscape of Our Lady’s apparitions.

One of the Hindus is reported to have said that they go to Fatima because there are many gods, and the gods have wives and companions who will bring good luck. This is a blasphemy against the Queen of Heaven as it places Our Blessed Mother on the same level as some sort of "wife" of a false god.

Thus, the Hindus did not even come to Fatima to learn of, or take part in, Catholic prayer. Rather, they folded the holy event of Fatima into their own superstitions and pagan myths.

These Hindus are said to be from Lisbon, where they have a Hindu temple and a community of a couple hundred. The SIC broadcast showed the Hindus’ house of worship that contained the many statues of their gods and goddesses.

It is reported that pilgrims who witnessed the event at Fatima were scandalized, but Shrine Rector Guerra defended the use of the Marian Shrine for pagan worship.

Appearing on Portuguese television, Guerra regurgitated the long-discredited, ecumenical slogan that different religions should concentrate on what we have in common and not on what separates us. He also said that all religions are good because they all lead us to God. As reported in previous issues of Catholic Family News, the principle that "all religions lead to God" is nothing more than one of Freemasonry’s fundamental tenets. The French Freemason, Yves Marsaudon wrote, "One can say that ecumenism is the legitimate son of Freemasonry".

The great saints sought to eliminate pagan worship, not incorporate it into the liturgical and pastoral life of the Catholic Church. Thus, you see, as horrible and atrocious and reprehensible and truly heartbreaking as the news of the pending dynamiting of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tianjiajing in the Henan province of Red China is, what is even more atrocious is the way in which Catholic Faith and worship have been attacked and undermined, dynamited, if you will, by the conciliarist revolutionaries. Red Chinese communists can only destroy physical representations of the Faith, as terrible as that is. The conciliar revolutionaries destroy not only the physical representations of the Faith but undermine the truths of the Faith in general and therefore plant the seeds of doubt and error in the souls of ordinary Catholics while at the same time reaffirming those steeped in false religions in their errors. Both sorts of attacks are terrible and deplorable. The latter, that is, the attacks plotted and executed by the conciliarists, are far more insidious and thus dangerous to the honor and glory of God and to the good of the souls for whom He shed every single drop of His Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross. And just as the officials at the national level in Beijing might claim ignorance of provincial officials while doing noting to stop their actions, conciliar officials in the Vatican who might claim ignorance of various events in their own structures around the world, such as what happened in Fatima, will let them continue, to a greater or lesser extent, as they beat their breasts and assert with a straight face that "syncretism" is not the goal of ecumenism.

Moreover, it should not be forgotten the conciliar Vatican endorsed and made arrangements for the world premiere of The Nativity Story in the Paul VI Audience Hall on Sunday, November 26, 2006, despite the fact that Our Lady is portrayed in that terrible motion picture as a sulky, rebellious teenager, thereby attacking the effects of her being preserved in perfect integrity of soul and body as a result of her Immaculate Conception (among other outrages in that motion picture, including attacks upon the Divine Maternity of Our Lady).Yes, dynamiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tianjiajing is an abominable atrocity. Dynamiting belief in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary by means of endorsing a blasphemous motion picture is, however, far, far worse as it is done by men claiming to be the wielders of official power in the highest echelons of the "Catholic" Church in Rome.

The destruction Catholic Faith and worship by means of the conciliar revolutions has been enabled by those who have sought at almost every turn to justify or to excuse the actions of the revolutionaries, trying to square the circle, so to speak, by positivistically asserting sacrilegious novelties and abominations to be perfectly in accord with the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church, thus further contributing to the destruction of the sensus Catholicus among ordinary Catholics. There are some people, such as Father Robert Fox, who would, it appears, rather burn incense to the false gods themselves than to admit, for example, that Mr. John Vennari's reporting on what happened at the "ecumenical" Congress in Fatima in 2003 and the "worship" to the false gods by Hindu priests there in 2004 was accurate and/or that what was said in 2003 or done in 2004 were reprehensible and in total contravention of the Catholic Faith. These people have so much invested in their own personal endorsement of the "orthodoxy" of the "Second" Vatican Council that they are absolutely nonplussed by events that would have made great missionaries such as Saints Francis Xavier and Hyacinth and Boniface and Patrick and Francis Solano, among many others, fall down on their knees in reparation as they would have prayed for the grace to be able to oppose openly and thus to eradicate such sacrileges from the peoples to whom they were sent to bring into the One Sheepfold of Christ that is the Catholic Church.

Similarly, the pending destruction of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tianjiajing will proceed, as noted earlier, without a word of protest from the government of the United States of America. Many politicians of both major political parties in this country have stock portfolios that contain investments in corporations making substantial profits off of the virtual slave labor in Red China. Most politicians of both major political parties here in the United States of America receive individual donations from corporate leaders whose firms make those profits off of the virtual slave labor in Red China. President George Walker Bush, who is continuing to sell out the security of the borders of the United States of America to make sure that his corporate bankrollers have a ready supply of illegal immigrant laborers to exploit and mistreat, will do or say nothing about the pending destruction of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tianjiajing. Could you imagine his even trying to pronounce the word "Tianjiajing," no less speak out against the actions of the Red Chinese authorities there.

Why should George W. Bush be concerned about a Catholic shrine in Red China when he is not concerned about the poisoning of the food and drugs being imported into this country from that country? Consider this excerpt from a report written by the founder of the Population Research Institute, Mr. Steven Mosher, who lost credit for his doctorate at Stanford University in the early 1980s when he exposed Red China's forced abortion policy, about the poisoning of America's food supply (Mr. Mosher's story was told in 60 Minutes in the early 1980s):

The news that Chinese toothpaste brands sold in Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Australia contained diethylene glycol, a highly toxic chemical used in engine coolants, came as a shock to U.S. health officials.  It shouldn't have.

China, as anyone who has lived there knows, has virtually no safety controls on food and drugs.  At the same time, it is in the midst of a no-holds-barred drive to increase its exports, and is heavily subsidizing its manufacturers to ship container loads of cheap goods of all kinds to the U.S. and other overseas markets.  As a result, over the past few years, China has stealthily become the second-largest supplier of foreign toothpaste--and many other questionable food and drug products--to the U.S. market.

U.S. health officials responded by pledging to check all shipments of toothpaste coming from China.  We have even offered to send inspectors to China.  (An offer that China quickly rejected.)  But why should the Food and Drug Administration--and ultimately the U.S. taxpayer--have to bear the entire burden of testing suspect Chinese-made food and drugs at all?

As a practical matter, the FDA is no more capable of inspecting the flood of Chinese imports than the Border Patrol is capable of containing the flood of illegal immigrants.  Take food imports, for example.  Right now, 25,000 shipments arrive on our shores from China and other countries every single day.  David Acheson, recently named to the new job of FDA commissioner for food protection, told the Baltimore Sun:  "Right now, we inspect 1 percent of food imports.  If we were to inspect 2 percent, would that problem go away?  I don't think so."

The FDA was not able to stop the recent poisoning of American pets, for example.  Unscrupulous Chinese exporters had sold wheat flour laced with a deadly chemical, melamine, to the United States.  Some was sold as livestock feed.  Other shipments found their way into American dog and cat food, killing or sickening thousands of animals and leading to the recall of more than 100 brands of pet food.  American citizens, rather than their pets, could easily be the next victims.

If the goal is to keep out harmful Chinese products, there is a better way.  Why not just ban all shipments of suspect food and drugs from China until the Chinese government itself proves that its products are safe?  After all, this is exactly what China does to us.  A single case of mad cow disease in 2003 led China to ban all U.S. beef imports.  This ban remains in place today, long after temporary bans put in place by other countries have been lifted.  To put it another way, China plays hardball in its trade with the U.S., while we play tiddlywinks.

Putting the burden of proof on Beijing will, of course, unavoidably reveal certain truths about our Chinese trading "partners."  Chief among these truths is the fact that corrupt and profit-driven Chinese officials are not only unwilling but fundamentally unable to ensure that all of their exports meet international standards.  Poisoned toothpaste, tainted wheat and baby bibs laced with lead (another recent scare) are not just the products of individual Chinese factories, they are the products of the Chinese system.

U.S. officials are said to be concerned about "China's standards," and are pushing for more written codes and regulatory inspections.  This would all be risible were America's health not at stake.  The truth is that China has no standards worthy of the name.  What it does have is a pervasive culture of corruption that makes it possible for virtually any official, up to and including the head of China's FDA, to be bribed. (Steven Mosher, June 18 - The Poisoning of America)

If George W. Bush is not going to protect our borders and take measures to protect our own food supply, ladies and gentlemen, it is pretty certain that he will not utter a word against the pending destruction of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tianjiajing. Once again, as I noted yesterday in Vivat Christus Rex!, George W. Bush is simply a product of a world that has no bearings as it does not subordinate itself to the Social Reign of Christ the King and Mary our Immaculate Queen, making conciliarism's "reconciliation" with the "principles" of the revolutions of 1787 and 1789 all the more responsible for reaffirming careerists in their dereliction of even the pursuit of the common temporal good of their citizens in the West as communists are emboldened to attack the Faith with impunity in the East. After all, those have destroyed the Faith from within the structures of what most people believe, albeit wrongly, to be Catholic Church are in no position to defend It when It is under attack from the very people with whose false ideas they are so "open" to being expressed in the name of "religious liberty."

In contrast to conciliarism's desire to "dialogue" with false religions, the great missionaries of the Catholic Faith sought to convert men and their nations to the true Faith. They were unstinting in their efforts to do so, making no compromises with false religions of any kind, making no concessions to any form of naturalism as do so many allegedly "traditional" Catholics in our own era today. Consider these words about the missionary work of Saint Boniface contained in Pope Pius XII's Ecclesiae Fastos, June 5, 1954:

To begin and carry out successfully this tremendous undertaking, he earnestly called for companions from the Benedictine monasteries in his own land, then flourishing in learning, faith and charity, -- for monks and nuns too, among whom Lioba was an outstanding example of evangelical perfection. They readily answered his call, and gave him precious help in his mission. And in those same lands there were not wanting those who, once the light of the Gospel had reached them, eagerly embraced the faith, and then strove mightily to bring it to all whom they could reach. Thus were those regions gradually transformed after Boniface, supported, as we have said, by the authority of the Roman Pontiffs, undertook the task; "like a new archimandrite he began everywhere to plant the divine seed and root out the cockle, to build monasteries and churches, and to put worthy shepherds in charge of them." Men and women flocked to hear him preach, and hearing him were touched by grace; they abandoned their ancient superstitions, and were set afire with love for the Redeemer; by contact with his teaching their rude and corrupt manners were changed; cleansed by the waters of baptism, they entered an entirely new way of life. Here were erected monasteries for monks and nuns, which were centers not only of religion, but also of Christian civilization, of literature, of liberal arts; there dark and unknown and impenetrable forests were cleared, or completely cut down, and new lands put to cultivation for the benefit of all; in various places dwellings were built, which in the course of centuries would grow to be populous cities.

Thus the untamed Germanic tribes, so jealous of their freedom that they would submit to no one, undismayed even by the mighty weight of Roman arms, and never remaining for long under their sway, once they were visited by the unarmed heralds of the Gospel, dociley yielded to them; they were drawn, stirred and finally penetrated by the beauty and truth of the new doctrine, and at last, embracing the sweet yoke of Jesus Christ, willingly surrendered to Him.

Through the activity of St. Boniface, what was certainly a new era dawned for the German people; new not only for the Christian religion, but also for Christian civilization. Consequently this nation should rightly consider and regard him as their father, to whom they should be ever grateful and whose outstanding virtues they should zealously imitate. "For it is not only almighty God Who is called Father in the spiritual order, but also all those whose teaching and example lead us to the truth and encourage us to be strong in our religion. . . Thus the holy bishop Boniface can be called the father of all Germans, since he was the first to bring them forth in Christ by his holy preaching and to strengthen them by the example of his virtue, then finally to lay down his life for them, greater love than which no man can show."

Among the various monasteries (and he had many built in those regions) the monastery of Fulda certainly holds first place; to the people it was as a beacon which with its beaming light shows ships the way through the waves of the sea. Here was founded as it were a new city of God, in which, generation after generation, innumerable monks were carefully and diligently instructed in human and divine learning, prepared by prayer and contemplation for their future peaceful battles, and finally sent forth like swarms of bees after they had drawn the honey of wisdom from their sacred and profane books, to impart generously that sweetness far and wide to others. Here none of the sciences of liberal arts were unknown. Ancient manuscripts were eagerly collected, carefully copied, brilliantly illuminated in color, and explained with careful commentaries. Thus it can justly be maintained that the sacred and profane studies Germany so excels in today had their venerable origins here.

What is more, innumerable Benedictines went forth from these monastic walls and with cross and plow, by prayer, that is, and labor, brought the light of Christian civilization to those lands as yet wrapped in darkness. By their long untiring labors, the forests, once the vast domain of wild beasts, almost inaccessible to man, were turned into fruitful land and cultivated fields; and what had been up to that time separate, scattered tribes of rough barbarous customs became in the course of time a nation, tamed by the gentle power of the Gospel and outstanding for its Christianity and civilization.

Pope Pius XII had addressed himself more generally to the work of the Church's missionaries throughout her history, including the persecutions of missionaries taking place at the time, in Evagnelii Praecones, June 2, 1951:

Now this salutary progress of the work of the missions has cost not only the ceaseless and great labors of those who sowed the seed of the Gospel, but also much blood of Martyrs. During the course of the centuries there have not been lacking in some countries most violent persecutions of the nascent Church; and in our own time there are countries in the Far East which are being purpled with martyrs' blood in the same cause. We have learned that many of the faithful and also nuns, missionaries, native priests and even Bishops have been driven from their homes, despoiled of their possessions and languish in want as exiles or have been arrested, thrown into prison or into concentration camps, or sometimes cruelly done to death, because they were devoutly attached to their faith.

Our heart is overwhelmed with grief when We think of the hardships, suffering and death of these our beloved children. Not only do We love them with a fatherly love, but We reverence them with a fatherly veneration, since We are fully aware that their high sense of duty is sometimes crowned with martyrdom. Jesus Christ, the first martyr, said: "If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you.""In the world you will have distress. But have confidence. I have overcome the world." "Unless the grain of wheat falling into the ground die, itself remaineth alone. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit."

Missionaries in foreign lands who die in the fulfilment of their sacred duty are seeds destined, when God so wills, to bear abundant fruit. Wherefore the Apostle Paul asserted: "We glory in tribulations." St. Cyprian, Bishop and Martyr, consoled and animated the Christians of his day with these words: "The Lord has willed that we should even rejoice over persecutions because, when persecutions occur, then the faith is crowned, God's soldiers are put to the test, and heaven is opened to martyrs. We have not enlisted in an army merely to think of peace and to decline battle, seeing that the Lord, the master of humility, tolerance and suffering, has taken the first place in the conflict, that He might first do what He taught us to do and that He might Himself first endure for us what He exhorts us to endure."

The missionaries who toil in distant lands are championing a cause not unlike that of the early Church. For those who along with the Princes of the Apostles, Peter and Paul, brought the Gospel to the citadel of the Roman Empire found themselves in a rather similar situation in Rome. If one remembers that the infant Church at that time was devoid of all natural means and was exposed to hardships, trials and persecutions, he must be deeply struck with admiration at the sight of a handful of unarmed Christians overthrowing what was perhaps the greatest power that ever existed. What happened then, will undoubtedly often happen again. just as the youth David, who put his trust more in God's help than in his own sling, laid low the armor clad giant Goliath, so the Divine society, which Christ founded, can never be overcome by an earthly power, but is destined to come forth the serene conqueror of all persecutions. Though We know well that this is due to the indefectible Divine promises, still We cannot but express Our gratitude to all those who have borne witness to their unshaken and invincible faith in Jesus Christ and in His Church, the pillar and ground of truth, exhorting them at the same time to continue in their constancy.

News very frequently reaches Us of their invincible and virile faith, which fills Our heart with great consolation. Though some have tried to separate the children of the Catholic Church from Rome and from this Apostolic See, as though patriotism and loyalty so required, yet Catholics have been and are able to make the fully justified rejoinder that, while they are second to none in the matter of patriotism, they genuinely desire to enjoy a rightful liberty.

Now what We have touched upon above, must be particularly borne in mind, namely, that what still remains to be accomplished in this field calls for an enormous effort and innumerable laborers. Let us remember that our brethren "who sat in darkness and shadow" form an immense multitude that can be reckoned at about 1,000,000,000. Hence it appears that the ineffable sigh of the most loving Heart of Christ is echoing still: "And other sheep I have that are not of this fold: them also I must bring. And they shall hear my voice: and there shall be one fold and one shepherd."

There are some shepherds, as you know, Venerable Brethren, who strive to lead away the sheep from this one fold and haven of salvation; you likewise know that this danger is daily growing greater. When We consider before God the immense number of men without the truth of the Gospel, and duly reckon the grave danger that faces many from the prevalence of atheistic materialism or from a certain so-called Christian creed which is infected by the tenets and errors of communism, We feel the deepest concern and solicitude that nothing be left undone to promote the work of the apostolate throughout the world. We make Our own the exhortation of the Prophet saying: "Cry, cease not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet."

This is the authentic voice of the Catholic Church, not that of the conciliarists who seek to engage in "dialogue" with those who worship devils and want the alleged representatives of the Catholic Church to approve and to praise their false beliefs and practices. The authentic voice of the Catholic Church will be recovered when she is restored in her full glory as the fruit of the Triumph of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary. Until that time, however, we must pray for all of those Catholics who are suffering from the effects of the schemes, whether outrightly violent, as in Red China, or insidious, as is the case with conciliarism in most instances, of the devil's minions to persecute and/or undermine the truths of the Catholic Faith and to obliterate and/or to denigrate the cult of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

We must make acts of reparation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary so that we might be purified of the effects of our own sins and thus be better able to pray with greater fervor and devotion and to be more ready to suffer as much as Our Lord wants us to in defense of the truths of the Holy Faith and in defense of the honor of His Most Blessed Mother and all of the angels and the saints.

Those who attack the Faith, whether from the quarters of atheistic and naturalistic civil governments or from the quarters of the counterfeit church of conciliarism, are heading for a bad end if they do not reform their lives and repent, both in and out of the internal forum of the Sacred Tribunal of Penance, for their crimes. We must make sure that our own sins do not wind up making us head to bad ends, praying as many Rosaries as we can each day, including most especially the family Rosary prayed in the home with all family members present, so that we can help avoid the fires of Hell ourselves and make it possible for many others to do so.

Our common goal is the possession of the Beatific Vision of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost in Heaven for all eternity. May we never flag in our determination to cooperate with the graces won for us on the wood of the Holy Cross by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and that flow into our hearts and souls through the loving hands of Our Lady, the Mediatrix of All Graces, to flee from all that is erroneous and harmful in the world and in the counterfeit church of conciliarism, cleaving to the true bishops and priests in the underground who teach only that which the Catholic Church has taught perennially and who only worship God as He has been worshiped from time immemorial. No matter what revolutionaries of the secular and ecclesiastical variety do to destroy the physical representations of the Faith we can keep ourselves safe by clinging to true shepherds who want us all to come to a good end by the means of Our Blessed Mother's praying for us nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

The Longer Version of the Saint Michael the Archangel Prayer, composed by Pope Leo XIII, 1888

O glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, be our defense in the terrible warfare which we carry on against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, spirits of evil.  Come to the aid of man, whom God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil.  Fight this day the battle of our Lord, together with  the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in heaven.  That cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels.  Behold this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage.  Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the Name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay, and cast into eternal perdition, souls destined for the crown of eternal glory.  That wicked dragon pours out. as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.  These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on Her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck the sheep may be scattered.  Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory.  They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.  Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church.  Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations.  Amen.

Verse: Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.

Response: The Lion of the Tribe of Juda has conquered the root of David.

Verse: Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.

Response: As we have hoped in Thee.

Verse: O Lord hear my prayer.

Response: And let my cry come unto Thee.

Verse: Let us pray.  O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as suppliants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin, immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all other unclean spirits, who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of our souls.

Response:  Amen.
