Never Counting The Cost of Sin

by Thomas A. Droleskey

Well, the "shutdown" of certain "non-essential" offices of the Federal government of the United States of America has been adverted. Another dog and pony show of naturalism is over for the time being. Permit me take a few moments of your time to reiterate several points made in No Need For Hidden Cameras to Know the Truth a week ago today.

First, the hard, cold political reality of the moment, stated in purely naturalistic terms, is this: well-meaning members of the United States House of Representatives who held the line against any continued funding for such merchants of evil as Planned Parenthood and related organizations were outnumbered from the very beginning.

Although the passage of any agreement on the budget of the Federal government of the United States of America for Fiscal Year 2011 depended upon the support of "social conservatives" the House of Representatives, there was zero chance that their just demands would be enacted by the United States Senate, which is controlled by out-and-out pro-aborts, including fifteen Catholics who have maintained their "good standing" in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism while supporting baby-killing under cover of the civil law (see appendix below, which also lists a sixteenth Catholic senator as a de facto pro-abort). The reigning caesar, Barack Hussein Obama, who believes himself to be possessed of such a charism of infallibility that he cannot accept any degree of criticism or resistance to his profligate spending to further reduce the legitimate liberties of the American people, had, of course, promised to veto any bill that defunds Planned Parenthood, not that any such bill is going to pass the United States Senate any time soon. The defunding of Planned Parenthood and related organizations is not going to happen in the 112th Congress, although the "deal" guarantees that a vote on defunding Planned Parenthood will take place even though Republicans such as Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Scott Brown (R-Massachusetts) support the continued funding of this evil organization.

Second, although the naturalists of the "right" are trumpeting the fact that they got sixty-three percent of the $61 billion in budget cuts for the rest of Fiscal Year 2011, which ends in October of this year, the actual amount of the budget cuts, $38 billion, represents but 0.02 percent of the $3.5 trillion Federal budget for this year. The real issue, fiscally speaking, facing Congress within the next few weeks is the vote that will be taken to raise the Federal debt limit over its current and most obscene level of $14 trillion. Although United States Representative Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin), the Chairman of the House Budget Committee, has proposed a budget for Fiscal Year 2012 that would set into motion a series of spending cuts totaling $6 trillion, a proposal that was made with the approval of United States Representative John Boehner (R-Ohio), the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the long term fiscal outlook for this country is grim, especially when one considers the simple fact that most of what the Federal government of the United States does today is without any legitimate foundation in the provisions of the Constitution and that violates the Natural Law principle of subsidiarity while at the same time enslaving ordinary citizens to odious regulations that are designed to empower nonelected bureaucrats. Obviously, a great deal of the budget funds overt evils that carry with them costs that have resulted in the ruin of nations and empires in the past. This country is no exception. Thirty-eight billion dollars? This is worse than a joke even on a naturalistic level.

Third, the demagogues of the naturalist "left" in the Democratic Party were posturing and preening for the cameras when they presented themselves as the "defenders" of "women's health services." Contraception is not a "health service." Contraception is a violation of the Sovereignty of God over the sanctity and fecundity of marriage. Moreover, despite United States Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's contention to the contrary, funding for Planned Parenthood is funding for surgical abortion as that nefarious organization is the largest single executioner of innocent preborn children in the country. Federal funding of Planned Parenthood's "other services" makes it more possible for its butchers to kill more babies. And, perhaps more to the point, most contraceptives abort--and most contraceptives abort most of the time. Once again, therefore, it might be apropos to quote Pope Pius XI as to the fate that awaits the likes of Harry Reid, a Mormon, and Richard Durbin and Nancy Pelosi and Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., each of whom is a Catholic in ''good standing" in the conciliar structures, if they persist to the point of their dying breaths as protectors of the "right" of women to kill their innocent children under cover of the civil law:

Those who hold the reins of government should not forget that it is the duty of public authority by appropriate laws and sanctions to defend the lives of the innocent, and this all the more so since those whose lives are endangered and assailed cannot defend themselves. Among whom we must mention in the first place infants hidden in the mother's womb. And if the public magistrates not only do not defend them, but by their laws and ordinances betray them to death at the hands of doctors or of others, let them remember that God is the Judge and Avenger of innocent blood which cried from earth to Heaven. (Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii, December 31, 1930.)

Fourth, the willingness of even "pro-life" Republicans to avoid a shutdown of the Federal government, although certainly a concession to the political realities discussed just above, demonstrates yet again that those who live in the grip of naturalism have not a blessed clue as to the simple truth that there is simply no way to count the cost of sin. While it is good that Federal and local taxpayer funding of surgical abortions in the District of Columbia will be terminated as a result of the budget "deal," no one in the "right" was willing to spend the political capital necessary to put the lie to Planned Parenthood and related organizations once and for all. No one was willing to stand to Obama and Reid and Biden and Pelosi by saying: "So what if the Federal government shuts down for a week or two, even a month or two? So what if voters get angry? Is not God angry with the continued warfare made against Him as the binding precepts of the Fifth, Sixth and Ninth Commandments are violated by the public promotion of contraception and abortion and perversity? Haven't empires in the past fallen sway to internal decay and invasions from without because of the public promotion of sinful behavior under cover of civil law and in the midst of what passes for 'popular culture.'"?

Pope Gregory XVI explained that the licentiousness of Modernity, which passes today for what so many in the United States of America believe is "liberty," has done to nations and cities in the past:

This shameful font of indifferentism gives rise to that absurd and erroneous proposition which claims that liberty of conscience must be maintained for everyone. It spreads ruin in sacred and civil affairs, though some repeat over and over again with the greatest impudence that some advantage accrues to religion from it. "But the death of the soul is worse than freedom of error," as Augustine was wont to say. When all restraints are removed by which men are kept on the narrow path of truth, their nature, which is already inclined to evil, propels them to ruin. Then truly "the bottomless pit" is open from which John saw smoke ascending which obscured the sun, and out of which locusts flew forth to devastate the earth. Thence comes transformation of minds, corruption of youths, contempt of sacred things and holy laws -- in other words, a pestilence more deadly to the state than any other. Experience shows, even from earliest times, that cities renowned for wealth, dominion, and glory perished as a result of this single evil, namely immoderate freedom of opinion, license of free speech, and desire for novelty. (Pope Gregory XVI, Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832.)

No, naturalists, including those who are said to be "pro-life" even though most of them support contraception as a matter of principle and support the direct, intentional killing of the innocent preborn in one or more of the "hard" cases, do not think in supernatural terms. Such is the legacy of the heresy of Americanism, which itself is but the logical issue of Protestantism and Judeo-Masonry. It would have been far, far better for the Federal government to have shut down for a long period of time rather than to continue offending God so brazenly as the national debt of sin mounts and mounts to such an extent so as to make the nearly $14 trillion in monetary debt pale into absolute insignificance.

The naturalists who believed that it was important to have a budget deal in order to avoid political repercussions do not realize that the hour is much later than they think. Japan is being punished at the present time, at least in part, as a result of its sixty-three years of baby-killing under cover of the civil law. The social decay we see before our very eyes in this country as generations of children are raised to be grubby materialists and naturalists and relativists and positivists is not going to be retarded by means merely natural (see No Christ the King? No Rosary? No Good Cause). No amount of well-intentioned efforts to scale back the growth of Federal spending can make the supernatural reality of the debt we owe to God by means of our sins disappear as it is impossible to know true temporal prosperity or peace while promoting things that are repugnant to the peace and happiness of eternity:

The more closely the temporal power of a nation aligns itself with the spiritual, and the more it fosters and promotes the latter, by so much the more it contributes to the conservation of the commonwealth. For it is the aim of the ecclesiastical authority by the use of spiritual means, to form good Christians in accordance with its own particular end and object; and in doing this it helps at the same time to form good citizens, and prepares them to meet their obligations as members of a civil society. This follows of necessity because in the City of God, the Holy Roman Catholic Church, a good citizen and an upright man are absolutely one and the same thing. How grave therefore is the error of those who separate things so closely united, and who think that they can produce good citizens by ways and methods other than those which make for the formation of good Christians. For, let human prudence say what it likes and reason as it pleases, it is impossible to produce true temporal peace and tranquillity by things repugnant or opposed to the peace and happiness of eternity. (Silvio Cardinal Antoniano, quoted by Pope Pius XI in Divini Illius Magistri, December 31, 1929.)

Enjoy the dog and pony shows of naturalism if you want to do so. Believing Catholics, however, know that there can be order in society if the souls of men are disordered by means of their own unrepentant sins.

We enter into Passiontide with First Vespers this evening. The statues in our churches will be covered. The Prayers at the Foot of the Altar, starting with Psalm 42, are suppressed for the next two weeks. It is time for us to intensify our Lenten practices, resolving to make more and more reparation for our own sins which are far more responsible for the state of the world and state of the Church Militant on earth than we would like to admit to ourselves. No one should take us or anything we have to say seriously unless we are striving first and foremost to conquer the forces of the world, the flesh and the devil in our own lives as we seek to cooperate with the graces won for us by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on the wood of the Holy Cross and that flow into our hearts and souls through the loving hands of Our Lady, she who is the Mediatrix of All Graces.

May the Rosaries that we pray each day help us to so oriented to the things of Heaven that we come to despite the ways of naturalism and naturalists, becoming apostles only of the Social Reign of Christ the King and of Mary our Immaculate Queen remembering at all times these simple but profound words of Pope Saint Pius X:

. . . . For there is no true civilization without a moral civilization, and no true moral civilization without the true religion: it is a proven truth, a historical fact. (Pope Saint Pius X, Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910.)

Immaculate Heart of Mary, triumph soon!
