Memo to Andrew Cuomo
by Thomas A. Droleskey
Although I have not taught in a formal classroom setting since the end of a winter intersession course at the C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Thursday, January 11, 2007, I am a teacher to the core of my being. Without "walls" in which to give lectures, I must confine my teaching abilities, however poor, to the netherworld of cyberspace, unsure of the exact numbers of those who actually read these articles while knowing that those numbers are very small indeed in comparison to the "traffic" generated on other sites (see Goofy Is Number Two). As a teacher, of course, it is of my nature to give assignments. Thus it is that I have such an assignment for the hearty souls who have found your way to this new article that will cover quite familiar material: please re-read
As New Dog and Pony Shows Come To Town, part three before you read this article. All right? Done deal? Good.
Ah, you're back after having completed your assignment. I am proud of you, my erstwhile students. Excellent job. Well done.
What you have just read about the pro-abortion former Governor of the State of New York, Mario Matthew Cuomo, is just as applicable to his equally despicable and demagogic son, Andrew Cuomo, who is running for his father's former position against the Republican nominee, Buffalo businessman Carl Paladino (see Gatekeepers of the Mainstream, part two).
Cuomo the Lesser, the urban legend has it, was responsible for flyers passed out on the streets of the Borough of Queens, New York, in the summer of 1977 as his father, then the Secretary of State of the State of New York (a position to which he was appointed the then pro-abortion Governor of the State of New York, Hugh Leo Carey, who had convinced the formerly pro-life Cuomo to use the "I'm personally opposed to abortion but" line), was running against then United States Representative Edward Irving Koch in a run-off primary for the Democratic Party mayoral nomination. Those flyers read: "Vote for Cuomo, not for the homo." Vans with bullhorn speakers on their roofs blared the same message to residents of Queens that summer. Both Cuomo the Elderly and Cuomo the Lesser have denied any involvement with the attempt to portray Koch, who won the run-off primary and served for three terms as Mayor of the City of New York, as a member of the lavender brigade. It is interesting, however, that the "vote for Cuomo, not for the homo" campaign was launched at all. Koch believed at the time that both Cuomos were indeed responsible for the attacks, although he has said in recent years that he now believes their denials (Koch Makes His Peace and Dares to Look Ahead) while others are not so sure see Rabbi Yehuda Levin Resurrects Old Koch/Cuomo Smear At City Hall). We will find out the truth on the Last Day at the General Judgment of the Living and the Dead.
What is factually provable, however, is that both Cuomo the Elderly and Cuomo the Lesser are world-class demagogues who use half-truths and whole lies to gutter fight their way to electoral victory. They are arrogant and defiant in the face of criticism. This should not surprise anyone as each is arrogant and defiant of the dictates of the Fifth Commandment that forbid the direct, intentional taking of any innocent human life under any circumstances without any condition, exception, reservation or qualification whatsoever. Those of you who have read As New Dog and Pony Shows Come To Town, part three know that this statement is completely factually accurate.
Not to be outdone by his father, who sold out the Faith and his former opposition to surgical baby-killing for the thirty pieces of silver represented by electoral success,, Andrew Cuomo is blasting Carl Paladino for being an "extremist" by opposing surgical baby killing in two of the three so-called "hard" cases:
“I believe his position that we should limit a woman’s right to choose, even in cases of rape and incest, I think that’s an extreme position,” said Mr. Cuomo, flanked by William C. Thompson Jr., the former city comptroller, and Representative Charles B. Rangel, among others. “I think the position about taking families who happen to be on welfare and bringing them to work camps is an extreme position.”
Mr. Cuomo at first characterized Mr. Paladino’s views merely as those of “quote-unquote Tea Party types.” But when pressed by reporters, he finally attacked Mr. Paladino by name for apparently the first time in the campaign, while also seeking to link him to the broader national Tea Party movement, which has produced upsets by insurgent conservative candidates in Republican primaries around the country. “Carl Paladino’s Tea Party, I see as a party that has extremist views,” Mr. Cuomo said. (Cuomo Assails Paladino for 'Extremist Views')
Here's news for you, Andy, you demagogue: God is even more "extreme" than Carl Paladino, who supports surgical baby-killing in cases where it is alleged that a mother's life is endangered. God opposes all abortions, surgical and chemical, at all times for any reason whatsoever. No ifs. No ands. No buts. Is this simple enough for you, Andy?
Let's spell things out for you so that even you, steeped as you are in your support of the dismemberment and poisoning of innocent babies, the fruit of the procreative powers that God has given to a man and a woman, can understand them.
God speaks to us exclusively through His Catholic Church.
A baptized member of the Catholic Church is required to submit his whole heart, mind, body, soul and strength to the Deposit of Faith that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, He Who spent nine months in the Virginal and Immaculate Womb of His Most Blessed Mother and is in solidarity with every child in every mother's womb no matter the child's physical condition or the circumstances of his conception, has revealed and entrusted exclusively to His Catholic Church that He founded upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope, for Its eternal safekeeping and infallible explication.
The Catholic Church is thus the sole teacher of the precepts of the Divine Positive Law, those laws that have been revealed to us by God, such as the the Ten Commandments the Precepts of the Church that God the Holy Ghost has led Holy Mother Church to bind upon the consciences of the faithful, and the Natural Law, those immutable moral truths that exist in the nature of things and are thus knowable by reason and that bind the consciences of all men at all times in all circumstances and do not depend upon human acceptance for their binding force or validity.
The Catholic Church teaches us infallibly that the Fifth Commandment, "Thou shalt not kill," prohibits the direct, intentional taking of any innocent human life from the first moment of conception through all subsequent stages until natural death. One can no sooner dissent from this truth than he can dissent from a law of the physical order, such as the law of metabolism (one who ingests more calories than his body burns off in a day will gain weight). Moral truth binds consciences just as surely as truths of the Order of Creation (Order of Nature) bind our bodies.
The Catholic Church teaches us that the civil law may never sanction any action that has as its direct and sole end the death of an innocent human being.
The Catholic Church has taught this consistently throughout the course of the past nearly two thousand years (see the appendix below).
You got it, Andy?
No?
Well, let me try to rephrase things a bit if you are still too arrogant, too proud, too steeped in your own sinful ways to understand the clear truths summarized above. I will, for the sake of making your life a little easier, Andy, repeat to you what I wrote to then United States Senator Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro Pelosi, twenty-five months ago now:
Condemning your support for the one of the four sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance, willful murder, under cover of civil law is not a judgment rendered by a fellow human being about the subjective state of your soul, which is something known to God alone. Stop using emotion and demagoguery to defend yourselves as you defend the right of the civil law to promote the mystical dismemberment of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the persons of innocent preborn children in their mothers' wombs.
Innocent human life is inviolable from the first moment of conception through all subsequent stages until natural death.
No human being may undertake any action that has as its sole and immediate end the death of an innocent human being.
The truths of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law as they have been entrusted to the magisterial authority of the Catholic Church for their eternal safekeeping and infallible explication bind the consciences of all human beings in all places at all times in all circumstances until the end of the world.
The fact that a human being rejects these truths does not make these truths any the less valid or eternally binding. Would the law of gravity be invalidated merely because large numbers of people disbelieved in its binding force or validity?
Catholics are Baptized and Confirmed to bear a visible, tangible witness to the truths of the Holy Faith. They are called to run the risk of ostracism and ridicule and even martyrdom, no less electoral rejection, of all things, to remain faithful to each of the truths of the Holy Faith without one iota of dissent.
Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ really, really meant it when He uttered the following words:
"And fear not them that kill the body, and cannot kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body as well." (Mt. 10:28)
"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, I will also confess him before my Father, who is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father, who is in heaven. . . . He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it." (Mt. 10:32-33; 39)
"If the world hates you, know ye that it hated me before you. If you had been of the world, the world love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember my word, that I said to you: the servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also." (Jn. 25:19-20)
"Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season, reprove, entreat, rebuke with all patience and doctrine. For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and will turn away indeed their hearing from the truth but will be turned to fables." (2 Tim. 4:2-4
No can say that he "loves" Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ while he promotes under cover of law the very thing that caused Him to suffer in His Sacred Humanity during His Passion and Death, sin, and that caused Our Blessed Mother's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart to be pierced through and through with Seven Swords of Sorrow.
While it is one thing to sin and to be sorry as we seek out the ineffable Mercy of the Divine Redeemer in the Sacred Tribunal of Penance at the hands of a sacerdos acting in persona Christi, it is quite another to persist in sin unrepentantly, worse yet to promote sin under cover of law and to protect it in every aspect of popular culture.
Sin and sinful behavior are not the proximate causes of social disorder. It is impossible to build or to maintain social order on the rotten foundation of civil laws that reaffirm people in lives of unrepentant sin and/or encourage people to commit sins.
These words, written by Silvio Cardinal Antoniano over 450 years ago, are just as relevant today as they were then:
The more closely the temporal power of a nation aligns itself with the spiritual, and the more it fosters and promotes the latter, by so much the more it contributes to the conservation of the commonwealth. For it is the aim of the ecclesiastical authority by the use of spiritual means, to form good Christians in accordance with its own particular end and object; and in doing this it helps at the same time to form good citizens, and prepares them to meet their obligations as members of a civil society. This follows of necessity because in the City of God, the Holy Roman Catholic Church, a good citizen and an upright man are absolutely one and the same thing. How grave therefore is the error of those who separate things so closely united, and who think that they can produce good citizens by ways and methods other than those which make for the formation of good Christians. For, let human prudence say what it likes and reason as it pleases, it is impossible to produce true temporal peace and tranquillity by things repugnant or opposed to the peace and happiness of eternity.
The civil state thus has an obligation to help to foster conditions wherein its citizens will be better able to sanctify and save their souls as members of the Catholic Church. Catholicism is the one and only foundation of personal and social order.
Still not convinced, Andy? Well, I just don't know about you, although I pray for you and your father every day. Yes, I really do.
Don't cop out like your father has done with the "I'm personally opposed" slogan. You have no Catholic ground on which to stand before God on that one, something that Pope Leo XIII made clear in Immortale Dei, November 1, 1885:
Hence, lest concord be broken by rash charges, let this be understood by all, that the integrity of Catholic faith cannot be reconciled with opinions verging on naturalism or rationalism, the essence of which is utterly to do away with Christian institutions and to install in society the supremacy of man to the exclusion of God. Further, it is unlawful to follow one line of conduct in private life and another in public, respecting privately the authority of the Church, but publicly rejecting it; for this would amount to joining together good and evil, and to putting man in conflict with himself; whereas he ought always to be consistent, and never in the least point nor in any condition of life to swerve from Christian virtue.
God forbid that you persist in your support of grave moral evils under cover of the civil law until the moment you draw your dying breath. If you do remain so arrogant and so stubborn as to persist in your support of baby-killing under cover of the civil law, Andy, you will have to reckon with the Divine Judge, Christ the King, at the moment of your Particular Judgment. Pope Pius XI issued a prophetic warning to the likes of you and your father and others in public life who dare to persist in the support of willful murder, one of the four sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance, until the moment of their deaths:
Those who hold the reins of government should not forget that it is the duty of public authority by appropriate laws and sanctions to defend the lives of the innocent, and this all the more so since those whose lives are endangered and assailed cannot defend themselves. Among whom we must mention in the first place infants hidden in the mother's womb. And if the public magistrates not only do not defend them, but by their laws and ordinances betray them to death at the hands of doctors or of others, let them remember that God is the Judge and Avenger of innocent blood which cried from earth to Heaven. (Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii, December 31, 1930.)
An "extreme" position, Andy? Try telling that to Christ the King at the moment of your Particular Judgment.
An "extreme" position, Andy? No, just the truth and nothing but the truth that you ignore to your own eternal peril.
You might win your election against Carl Paladino on November 2, 2010, despite your arrogance and your protection of friends who engage in questionable financial activities (see Update: Andrew Cuomo Vs. Carl Paladino = Ugliness). I think, however, that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ had a little something to say about those who win the favor the world at the cost of denying Him and His Holy truths before men:
For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul? [37] Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? [38] For he that shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation: the Son of man also will be ashamed of him, when he shall come in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. (Mark 8: 36-38.)
Well, my good and few readers, all we can do is to pray for the likes of Andrew Cuomo as we seek to make reparation for our own many sins by living more penitentially as the consecrated slaves of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, praying our Rosaries of reparation on a daily basis as Our Lady told us to do during her Fatima apparitions between May 13, 1917, and October 13, 1917.
We must remember, of course, that Catholics in public life who support various of the evils that cry out to Heaven for vengeance are never spoken to in the way that I have done in this memo to New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo because the counterfeit church of conciliarism has made its "reconciliation" with the principles of 1787 and 1789, endorsing the diabolical thesis of the "separation of Church and State" and viewing the hideous lie of "pluralism," which is an outgrowth of the Judeo-Masonic naturalism of Americanism, as the "norm" which requires Catholics to be content to speak in inter-denominational or non-denominational terms rather than as Catholics.
The "reconciliation" of the counterfeit church of conciliarism with the false, naturalistic, anti-Incarnational and semi-Pelagian principles of the modern civil state was anticipated by Pope Leo XIII in Custodi Di Quella Fede, December 8, 1892, and condemned in the most direct terms imaginable:
Everyone should avoid familiarity or friendship with anyone suspected of belonging to masonry or to affiliated groups. Know them by their fruits and avoid them. Every familiarity should be avoided, not only with those impious libertines who openly promote the character of the sect, but also with those who hide under the mask of universal tolerance, respect for all religions, and the craving to reconcile the maxims of the Gospel with those of the revolution. These men seek to reconcile Christ and Belial, the Church of God and the state without God. (Pope Leo XIII, Custodi Di Quella Fede, December 8, 1892.)
Obviously, the fact that we have such evils as chemical and surgical baby-killing under cover of law is the result of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolt and the rise of Judeo-Masonry. We are not "resolving" these evils naturalistically or politically or constitutionally by means of inter-denominational or non-denominational policies or electoral "strategies." The one and only way to reform the world is to convert men and their nations in it to the true Faith, something that Pope Saint Pius X noted in Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910:
For there is no true civilization without a moral civilization, and no true moral civilization without the true religion: it is a proven truth, a historical fact.
The conciliar enablers of Catholics in public life of the agencies of organized naturalism in the United States of America (the Republican and Democratic parties) have been appointed and maintained in power by Giovanni Montini/Paul VI, Karol Wojtyla/John Paul II and Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI (see And Yet They Remain in Power). Even those conciliar "bishops" who denounce Catholics in public life who support chemical and surgical baby-killing and perversity are steeped in the apostasies of conciliarism and offend God every day by their offering of the abomination known as the Protestant and Masonic Novus Ordo service. These "conservative" conciliar "bishops" are thus incapable of of doing anything other than issuing a "tsk, tsk" or a "naughty, naughty" as both of their false religions reject the restoration of Catholicism and the Social Reign of Christ the King as the most urgent task facing them in the civil order.
Pope Pius XI described he fraud of contemporary electoral politics quite well in Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 23, 1922:
To these evils we must add the contests between political parties, many of which struggles do not originate in a real difference of opinion concerning the public good or in a laudable and disinterested search for
what would best promote the common welfare, but in the desire for power and for the protection of some private interest which inevitably result in injury to the citizens as a whole. From this course there often
arise robberies of what belongs rightly to the people, and even conspiracies against and attacks on the supreme authority of the state, as well as on its representatives. These political struggles also beget threats
of popular action and, at times, eventuate in open rebellion and other disorders which are all the more deplorable and harmful since they come from a public to whom it has been given, in our modern democratic states, to participate in very large measure in public life and in the affairs of the government.
Now, these different forms of government are not of themselves contrary to the principles of the Catholic
Faith, which can easily be reconciled with any reasonable and just system of government. Such governments, however, are the most exposed to the danger of being overthrown by one faction or another.
We must redouble our own efforts in prayer and sacrifice and penance and fasting and mortification to plant the seeds as the consecrated slaves of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary for the restoration of Christendom, praying as many Rosaries each day as our states-in-life permit in reparation for our sins and those of the whole world:
Francisco Marto spent long hours in church to console the "good God." So must we:
With his sister Jacinta and his cousin Lucia, he had been blessed with three appearances by an Angel, and six by Our Lady.
At his third appearance, the Angel said to these three young shepherd children: "Console your God". These words impressed Francisco very deeply, and guided his whole life. He wanted to be the "Consoler of Jesus". He felt most hurt when he saw Jesus offended, and his ideal was to give Him consolation. He wanted to avoid sin, and others to avoid it, to save his Saviour sadness. He made very sacrifice he could to give consolation to Jesus. To do this he would stay along for long hours in church, or hide himself in some lonely place. Shortly before he died, he said "In haven I'm going to console Our Lord and Our Lady very much." (Holy Card of Francisco Marto.)
Anyone who thinks that he is "consoling" Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ while he remains "neutral" about or supportive of His mystical dismemberment in the persons of innocent preborn children under cover of law is an apostate who has excommunicated himself from the Catholic Church. Such a person is in need of our prayers, to be sure. However, such a person is a proximate source of social chaos, not an instrument of justice founded in the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law.
Conscious of making reparation for our own sins, which, although forgiven and thus no longer exist, are in need of our making satisfaction here in this passing, mortal vale of tears before we die, may our Rosaries each day help lift the scales from the likes of Andrew Cuomo and his father and all others in public life, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, and hasten their return or conversion to the Catholic Church, outside of which there is no salvation and without which there can be no true or lasting social order.

The Catholic Church's Consistent Opposition to Abortion
(Citations found on the Priests for Life website and included in my own
Fact and Fiction)
"The way of light, then, is as follows. If anyone desires to travel to the appointed place, he must be zealous in his works. The knowledge, therefore, which is given to us for the purpose of walking in this way, is the following....Thou shalt not slay the child by procuring abortion; nor, again, shalt thou destroy it after it is born" (Letter of Barnabas 19 [A.D. 74] ). The Letter of Barnabas
"Thou shalt not use magic. Thou shalt not use witchcraft; for he says, ‘You shall not suffer a witch to live’ [Ex. 22:18]. Thou shall not slay thy child by causing abortion, nor kill that which is begotten. . . . [I]f it be slain, [it] shall be avenged, as being unjustly destroyed" (Apostolic Constitutions 7:3 [A.D. 400] ). The Apostolic Constitutions
On therapeutic abortion:
And therefore the following question may be very carefully inquired into and discussed by learned men, though I do not know whether it is in man's power to resolve it: At what time the infant begins to live in the womb: whether life exists in a latent form before it manifests itself in the motions of the living being. To deny that the young who are cut out limb by limb from the womb, lest if they were left there dead the mother should die too, have never been alive, seems too audacious. Now, from the time that a man begins to live, from that time it is possible for him to die. And if he die, wheresoever death may overtake him, I cannot discover on what principle he can be denied an interest in the resurrection of the dead. -Enchiridion 23.86
Therefore brothers, you see how perverse they are and hastening wickedness, who are immature, they seek abortion of the conception before the birth; they are those who tell us, "I do not see that which you say must be believed." - Sermon 126, line 12 Augustine of Hippo (354-430)
Why sow where the ground makes it its care to destroy the fruit? where there are many efforts at abortion? where there is murder before the birth? for even the harlot thou dost not let continue a mere harlot, but makest her a murderer also. You see how drunkenness leads to whoredom, whoredom to adultery, adultery to murder; or rather something even worse than murder. For I have no name to give it, since it does not take off the thing born, but prevents its being born. Why then dost thou abuse the gift of God, and fight with His laws, and follow after what is a curse as if a blessing, and make the chamber of procreation a chamber for murder, and arm the woman that was given for childbearing unto slaughter? For with a view to drawing more money by being agreeable and an object of longing to her lovers, even this she is not backward to do, so heaping upon thy head a great pile of fire. For even if the daring deed be hers, yet the causing of it is thine. Hence too come idolatries, since many, with a view to become acceptable, devise incantations, and libations, and love potions, and countless other plans. Yet still after such great unseemliness, after slaughters, after idolatries, the thing [fornication] seems to belong to things indifferent, aye, and to many that have wives, too. -Homily 24 on Romans John Chrysostom (347-407)
You may see many women widows before wedded, who try to conceal their miserable fall by a lying garb. Unless they are betrayed by swelling wombs or by the crying of their infants, they walk abroad with tripping feet and heads in the air. Some go so far as to take potions, that they may insure barrenness, and thus murder human beings almost before their conception. Some, when they find themselves with child through their sin, use drugs to procure abortion, and when (as often happens) they die with their offspring, they enter the lower world laden with the guilt not only of adultery against Christ but also of suicide and child murder. - Epistula 22 Jerome (347-420)
Indeed there are those women who cut off the word prematurely born/aborted, before they give birth, there are those who have Christ in the womb but they will not yet have formed (him), to whom it is said: my children, whom I desire to bring forth again and again until Christ be formed in you. Expositio evangelii secundum Lucam, lib. 10, line 252 [private translation]
[Thomas A. Droleskey interjection at this point: One can see in this previous quote, which comes from Saint Ambrose, the Bishop of Milan, the same language that many, including yours truly, have used for decades now to describe abortion as attack mystically upon Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the persons of preborn child. I digress. Back to the sources quoted on the Priests for Life website:
But why the eye or the hand, since the aborted child has both a hand and an eye which has already been formed? -Ambrose, Expositio evangelii secundum Lucam, lib. 10, line 283 [private translation]
And elsewhere the same Ecclesiastes, being an old man, guarded him better whom his mother had cast out by abortion, because he did not see these bad things which they make in this world, he neither came into these shadows nor walked in vanity, and for that reason he who did not come into this life will have more of a rest than he who came. - De bono mortis, cap 2, par. 4, line 11
The poor get rid of their small children by exposure and denying them when they are discovered. But the rich also, so that their wealth will not be more divided, deny their children [when they are] in the womb and with all the force of parricide, they kill the beings of their wombs [while they are] in the same fruitful womb. In this way life is taken away from them before it has been given. -Hexameron V.18.58 [private translation] Ambrose (c.340-397)
To Anfilochius, Bishop of Iconia:
She who has intentionally destroyed [the fetus] is subject to the penalty corresponding to a homicide. For us, there is no scrutinizing between the formed and unformed [fetus]; here truly justice is made not only for the unborn but also with reference to the person who is attentive only to himself/herself since so many women generally die for this very reason. -First Letter 2
Canon II.
Let her that procures abortion undergo ten years' penance, whether the embryo were perfectly formed, or not. - The First Canonical Epistle of Our Holy Father Basil, Archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia to Amphilochius, Bishop of Iconium.
…those who give the abortifacients and those who take the poisons are guilty of homicide. -First Letter 8 Basil (c.329-379)
That the unborn child is alive:
How are they dead unless they were first alive? But still in the womb an infant by necessary cruelty is killed when lying twisted at the womb's mouth he prevents birth and is a matricide unless he dies. Therefore there is among the arms of physicians an instrument by which with a rotary movement the genital parts are first opened, then with a cervical instrument the interior members are slaughtered with careful judgment by a blunt barb, so that the whole criminal deed is extracted with a violent delivery. There is also the bronze needle by which the throat - cutting is carried out by a robbery in the dark; this instrument is called and embryo knife from its function of infanticide, as it is deadly for the living infant.
This Hippocrates taught, and Asclepiades, and Erasistratus and Herophilus, the dissector of adults, and the milder Soranos himself, - all of them certain that a living being had been conceived and so deploring the most unhappy infancy of one of this kind who had first to be killed lest a live woman be rent apart. Of this necessity of crime, Hicesius, I believe did not doubt, as he added souls to those being born from blows of cold air, because the word itself for "soul" among the Greek relates to such a cooling. - De Anima 25.5 - 6
They [John and Jesus] were both alive while still in the womb. Elizabeth rejoiced as the infant leaped in her womb; Mary glorifies the Lord because Christ within inspired her. Each mother recognizes her child and each is known by her child who is alive, being not merely souls but also spirits. Tertullian (c.160-240) - De Anima 26.4
Council of Elvira (c. 305)
Canon 68: If a catechumen should conceive by an adulterer, and should procure the death of the child, she can be baptized only at the end of her life.
Council of Ancyra (314)
Canon 21: Women who prostitute themselves, and who kill the child thus begotten, or who try to destroy them when in their wombs, are by ancient law excommunicated to the end of their lives. We, however, have softened their punishment and condemned them to the various appointed degrees of penance for ten years. Quotes from Early Councils
The Lord's Teaching to the Heathen by the Twelve Apostles:
1 There are two ways, one of life and one of death; and between the two ways there is a great difference.
2 Now, this is the way of life:…
The second commandment of the Teaching: "Do not murder; do not commit adultery"; do not corrupt boys; do not fornicate; "do not steal"; do not practice magic; do not go in for sorcery; do not murder a child by abortion or kill a newborn infant. "Do not covet your neighbor's property; do not commit perjury; do not bear false witness"; do not slander; do not bear grudges. Do not be double-minded or double-tongued, for a double tongue is "a deadly snare." Your words shall not be dishonest or hollow, but substantiated by action. Do not be greedy or extortionate or hypocritical or malicious or arrogant. Do not plot against your neighbor. Do not hate anybody; but reprove some, pray for others, and still others love more than your own life. Didache: The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles
The Priests for Life website also includes several citations from pagan authors who condemned abortion. Both of these quotations were found in that book called Abortion in the Early Church:
Of what avail to fair woman to rest free from the burdens of war [i.e. pregnancy], nor choose with shield in arm to march in the fierce array, if, free from peril of battle, she suffer wounds from weapons of her own, and arm her unforeseeing hands to her own undoing?
She who first plucked forth the tender life deserved to die in the warfare she began. Can it be that, to spare your bosom the reproach of lines, you would scatter the tragic sands of deadly combat? -De Nuce, lines 22-23; cf. Amores 2.13 (Ovid, 43 B.C.-65 A.D.)
Juvenal (c.57/67-127)
Poor women…endure the perils of childbirth, and all the troubles of nursing to which their lot condemns them; but how often does a gilded bed contain a woman that is lying in it? So great is the skill, so powerful the drugs, of the abortionist, paid to murder mankind within the womb. Pagan Sources
