Leading the Little Ones Astray

by Thomas A. Droleskey

As is noted on the home page of this website, keep the children and young adolescents away from this article. Although I avoid the use of graphic terms, the subject matter of this article is not fit for tender eyes. That this article must be written at all is a major commentary on the tragic turn of events in the Church and in the world as a result of the failure of just one Pope to consecrate Russia to Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart with all of the bishops of the world.

Writing about the sad state of the Catholic hierarchy in the United States of America is one of the most distasteful, draining and altogether hideous things that one can do in these times. The fact that I wrote about the hierarchy truthfully during my days with The Wanderer in the 1990s was enough to make me persona non grata in a lot of "conservative" Catholic circles long before I began to be lambasted as a radical, disloyal, "schismatic" Traditionalist. The truth remains, however, that anyone who is unwilling to admit the wretched state of the Catholic hierarchy in this country is living in a world of denial and/or delusion.

To wit, consider the following from a story that appeared in The Washington Times on June 13, 2005:

  • Retired Bishop Dan Ryan of Springfield, IL. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? Through the offices of the civil justice system.
  • Retired Bishop Tom Dupre of Springfield, MA. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? Through the offices of the civil justice system.
  • Retired Bishop Patrick Ziemann of Santa Rosa, CA. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? Through the offices of the civil justice system.
  • Retired Bishop Kendrick Williams of Lexington, KY. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? Through the offices of the civil justice system.
  • Retired Bishop Keith Symons of Palm Beach, FL. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? Through the offices of the civil justice system.
  • Retired Bishop Lawrence Soens of Sioux City, IA. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? Through the offices of the civil justice system.
  • Retired Bishop Joseph Hart of Cheyenne, WY. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? Through the offices of the civil justice system.
  • Retired Bishop Andrew O'Connell of Palm Beach, FL. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? Through the offices of the civil justice system.
  • Non-Retired Bishop Robert Lynch of St. Petersburg, FL. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? The papers reported his $100,000 sexual harassment pay-off to his communications flack.
  • Retired Archbishop Rembert Weakland of Milwaukee, WI. Did he tell us he was gay? No. Did his brother bishops tell us he was gay? No. Then how did we find out? His lover broke the news on Good Morning America .

Ten bishops are listed above. There are many, many more. And the fact that there are so many bishops who are steeped in one of the four sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance explains a great deal about the hatred of the Traditional Latin Mass and the love for a liturgy, the Novus Ordo Missae, that reaffirms men in their essential goodness without ever mentioning in any of its prayers the possibility of eternal damnation. The presence of so many practitioners of the sin of Sodom in the hierarchy also explains the necessity to wreck existing Catholic churches in order to strip them of the symbols of holiness (the Crucifix, images of the saints, the removal of the Blessed Sacrament from the center of the church) that are a reminder to them of their refusal to root out sin from their own lives. This explains the abandonment of the music of Tradition in favor of the sappy sentimentality of "liturgical music" written by fellow perverts to reaffirm themselves in the belief that one can be a pervert and still say he loves God and neighbor as the Gospel teaches. The presence of a network of perverted bishops results in the staffing of chancery offices with other perverts.

Indeed, an unconfirmed report that has appeared on the Catholic World Report website has reported the following, posted by "Diogenes":

Father Robert Templeton, a priest of the Newark archdiocese, has told friends that he is leaving priestly ministry, because it conflicts with his homosexual lifestyle.

This announcement would be sad, but not particularly newsworthy, except that Father Templeton:

  • Had recently been tapped by Archbishop John Myers to receive the title of Monsignor
  • Was once the secretary to then-Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, and
  • Was serving as executive director for the archdiocesan office of priestly personnel

If this report is true, was Archbishop John J. Myers, Father Templeton's current archbishop, unaware of his proclivities? What about Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, who expressed the belief in 2002 at the height of the revelations that broke in the secular media after years of reportage in The Wanderer (I wrote the initial stories about Stephen G. Brady's efforts to remove the perverted Bishop Daniel Ryan as the Bishop of Springfield, Illinois), that simply "being gay" does not disqualify one from the priesthood, contradicting a 1961 Vatican document that barred any man with such a disorder from being ordained to the priesthood for a religious community? The widespread nature of this problem in chancery offices is what makes it so very difficult for earnest Catholics who want to complain about problems in a parish or a school or a university to be taken seriously. Individuals who are steeped in unrepentant sin think that anyone who disagrees with their governance is a rigid, bigoted, reactionary, homophobic, hateful, judgmental and unbalanced kook who must be dismissed by the use of bitter invectives and catchy slogans. More than one priest, including a priest of another archdiocese who had studied at Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University in Orange, New Jersey, has said that the Archdiocese of Newark is a cesspool of clerical perversion. Does Archbishop Myers agree with this assessment? Does he intend to do anything about it before more scandals bewilder those members of the lay faithful who do not understand that the Church is divinely founded and maintained and that she will survive each of our efforts to undermine her by means of our sins?

The stranglehold on episcopal and clerical power that is possessed by those steeped in perversion is such that it is considered to be a virtue to undermine the innocence and the purity of the young by mandating classroom instruction in matters pertaining to the Sixth and Ninth Commandment in direct defiance of Pope Pius XI's absolute ban on such classroom instruction contained in his 1929 encyclical letter, Divini Illius Magistri.

Indeed, I was asked by a group of Catholic parents in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1993, when I was teaching political science at Morningside College, to analyze the the horrors of an "AIDS Education" program that had been mandated for use in the diocese's schools and religious education programs from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. I did so, preparing a fourteen page critique of the report that I hand-delivered to Jose Cardinal Sanchez, who was then the Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, and Pio Cardinal Laghi, then the Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, in Rome in May of 1993. Before going to Rome, however, I went with the parents to meet with the diocesan ordinary, Bishop Lawrence Soens, who was adamant in his support for the program, stating that people must know how to keep from getting AIDS and how to be sensitive and compassionate towards those who are inclined in the direction of an "alternative" lifestyle. He did not come right out and endorse an "alternative" lifestyle, stating only that one must be "sensitive and compassionate" towards those who have a "lifestyle" that makes them susceptible to contracting AIDS. It is clear now, twelve years later, that Bishop Soens had a personal stake in his support of the "AIDS Education" program he had mandated for use in the Diocese of Sioux City. He did not want any of us to remind him about the fact that the way to avoid contracting AIDS was to cooperate with the graces won for us on Calvary by the shedding of Our Lord's Most Precious Blood to keep the Sixth and Ninth Commandments as part of the means to scale the heights of personal sanctity.

Cardinal Sanchez, who gave good talks at various conservative Catholic conferences here in the United States but governed the Congregation for the Clergy weakly, did not accept the legitimacy of our complaints about Bishop Soens and his support for the "AIDS Education" program, which had originated in the homosexual-friendly confines of the then named National Conference of Catholic Bishops/United States Catholic Conference (now called the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops). Cardinal Laghi was polite but noncommittal when I tried to explain the problem to him. And as I have reported in previous articles on this site, repeated efforts by priests and lay Catholics to bring the perverted behavior of bishops to the attention of curial officials in the 1990s were met with complete diffidence by those officials. One priest from an American diocese brought documented proof of his own bishop's involvement in a long-term situation of natural (as opposed to unnatural) vice. That bishop still governs his diocese to this very day. This is but one of the many reasons that any talk of canonizing Pope John Paul II is unwarranted. He not only did nothing about perverted bishops, he continued to protect and to promote bishops whose commitment to vice was beyond question.

As noted before, the Novus Ordo Missae in itself and all of its accoutrements reaffirms clerics in behavior that is said to be without consequences in this world or the next. The Traditional Latin Mass contains scores of prayers that make reference to a God Who judges and the necessity of making reparation for our sins. There are prayers that mention the reality of eternal damnation. This is not the case in the Novus Ordo Missae, which is one of the reasons why those steeped in perversion are for the most part violently opposed to any concessions made in the direction of the Traditional Latin Mass.

Mind you, the Traditional Latin Mass is no guarantor against any one, including a priest, from falling into sins against the Sixth and Ninth Commandments, whether natural or unnatural. There have been several documented cases of perverted behavior among priests who offered the Traditional Latin Mass regularly, if not exclusively (leaving aside the Society of Saint John, which was not committed to Tradition at all). The devil wants to ensnare each of us into lives of unrepentant sin. He wants quite particularly to ensnare priests into lives of unrepentant sin. It is one thing to sin and to be sorry, seeking out the forgiveness of the Divine Physician in the hospital of Divine Mercy that is the confessional. It is quite another to persist in sin unrepentantly, worse yet to refuse to recognize sin as sin, thereby condemning anyone who attempts to point out that we must root out sin, both venial and mortal, each day from every aspect of our lives.

That having been noted, however, it is important to emphasize the fact that the current plague of perversion within the highest reaches of the Catholic Church is an aping of the Antinomianism that arose as the logical result of Martin Luther's belief that human beings are "saved" alone by their profession of faith in Our Lord. If that is true, as logic leads a rational mind to conclude, then it is not necessary to lead a virtuous life. If Our Lord forgives our sins as soon as we ask Him without the mediation of an alter Christus in the Sacrament of Penance, then we can sin and sin frequently without a thought about any consequences, whether temporally or eternally. Martin Luther himself rejected Antinomianism, refusing to see that it was the inexorable logic of his own heresies that led to its rise and spread throughout adherents of the Protestant Revolution. Luther's changing of the theology and the liturgy of the true Church resulted inevitably in Antinomianism. Those who worked against the Traditional Latin Mass and the traditional formulations of the dogmas of the Faith, including the immutable doctrine of the Social Reign of Christ the King, in the years leading up and after the Second Vatican Council unleashed forces, whether wittingly or unwittingly, that have led bishops and their highest ranking chancery officials to believe that it is possible to exercise ecclesiastical power over the souls entrusted to their pastoral care unto eternity without the taint of their own sins corrupting everything they touch.

It would be wise for those members of the episcopate and the hierarchy who are steeped in perversion and the protected thereof to consider the following:

The sun was risen unto the earth and Lot entered into Segor. And the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrha brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. And he destroyed these cities and all of the country about, all the inhabitants of the cities, and all things that spring from the earth. And his wife, looking behind her, was turned into a statue of salt.

And Abraham got up early in the morning, and in the place where he had stood before with the Lord. He look towards Sodom and Gomorrha, and the whole land of that country; and he saw the ashes rise up from the earth as the smoke of a furance.

Now when God destroyed the cities of that country, remembering Abraham, he delivered Lot out of the destruction of the cities wherein he dwelt. (Genesis 19: 24-29)

Do bishops and priests steeped in unrepentant acts of perversion think that God is more pleased with them than with Sodom and Gomorrha? Do they think that they can avoid the judgment of God for all eternity as they continue their own acts of wickedness while they undermine the sacredness of the Mass and corrupt His own Deposit of Faith? If they do then they ought to reckon with one of the few passages of the Bible that is omitted from the triennial cycle of readings for Sunday Masses and the biennial cycle of readings of daily Masses in the Novus Ordo Missae:

Wherefore God gave them up to the desires of their heart, unto uncleanness, to dishonour their own bodies among themselves. Who changed the truth of God into a lie; and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God delivered them up to shameful affections. For their women have changed the natural use into that use against which is their nature.

And in like manner, the men also, leaving the natural use of the women, have burned in their lusts one towards another, men with men working that which is filthy, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was due to their error.

And as they liked not to  have God in their knowledge, God delivered them up to a reprobate sense, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness, full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity, whisperers, detractors, hateful to God, contumelious, proud, haughty, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, foolish, dissolute, without affection, without fidelity, without mercy.

Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.  (Romans 1: 24-32)

Given the state of the hierarchy it is no wonder that this passage was omitted by Anniable Bugnini and his merry band of revolutionaries as they concocted the Novus Ordo Missae. Imagine the demons who are attached to the bishops and priests who are steeped in the sin of Sodom. How infested must be the places where the bishops hold their semi-annual meetings. Nothing was permitted to grow from the earth after fire and brimstone had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha. How can anyone think that the Traditional Latin Mass, no less the integrity of the Deposit of Faith, is going to grow from the rotten, polluted ground sown and ploughed by perverted bishops and their chancery factotums? Yes, God brings good out of evil. He does not want those who are ordained to the priesthood and consecrated as bishops to be steeped in evil and/or to ignore its ugly reality. He wants bishops and priests to be men striving for holiness, which will provide the good soil from which the truths of the Holy Faith might take root and prosper.

Holy Mother Church is divinely founded and maintained. She will indeed last until the end of time. Each one of our sins wounds the Mystical Body of Christ, which is why we must be conscious at all times of doing penance for our sins. Granted. However, Our Lord Himself said that it would be better for a millstone to be placed around the neck of anyone who is guilty of scandal and thus leads just one of his little ones astray. We pray for our bishop. We harbor not one whit of ill will for them. Those who are steeped in perversion--and/or who indifferent about it in the lives of their priests--must resign or be removed for the good the flock of Christ's true Sheepfold, the one, true Church that is the Holy Roman Catholic Church.

Pope Benedict XVI was elected to the papacy two months ago today. Every Catholic in the whole world must pray and make sacrifices every day, offering them freely as the consecrated slave of Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, that Pope Benedict XVI will see clearly that the only solution to the foul miasma of sin that has corrupted the clergy and thus polluted both liturgy and doctrine is to consecrate Russia to Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. Oh, others may speak and write of grand strategies of attempting to replicate the good done by the Cluniac monks about a thousand years ago. All well and good. I believe God's strategy, however, is much different and it is very clear: Russia must be consecrated to Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart with all of the bishops of the world to cease the spread of the errors of Russia, which are the errors of Modernity in the world and Modernism in the Church. The solution is, as I have written, in the past, that simple. Simplicity is of the essence of God, not grand strategizing.

In the midst of the news about this or that scandal, therefore, we must storm Heaven every day so that Pope Benedict will realize that the path to order in the Church and the world runs one way: through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Our Lady, Help of Christians, pray for us.

Pope Saint Silverius, pray for us.

Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, full of innocence and purity, pray for us.
