From the Sanhedrin to the Southern Poverty Law Center,
From Nero to the United States Navy
by
Thomas A. Droleskey
The "special intelligence" report of the Southern Poverty Law Center that targeted what was called the "dirty dozen" of "anti-semitic" "hate" organizations within the very wide circles of traditional Catholicism is beginning to take on a demonic life of its own outside of the Christophobic headquarters of the Southern Poverty Law Center in Birmingham, Alabama. United States Navy Lieutenant Commander John Sharpe, the Public Affairs Officer for the United States Navy Aircraft Carrier Carl Vinson who publishes books under the IHS Press label, has been relieved of his duties because of the Southern Poverty Law Center's baseless accusations against him as being "anti-Semitic. Here is the report from the March 9, 2007, issue of Navy Times:
Carrier PAO relieved pending investigation
Navy examining lieutenant commander's alleged involvement in anti-Semitic groups

NORFOLK, Va. - The public affairs officer for the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson has been temporarily relieved of duty following allegations that he was involved in supremacist activities.
Lt. Cmdr. John Sharpe was relieved of his duties Wednesday pending the outcome of an investigation, according to Jim Brantley, a spokesman for Fleet Forces Command.
Brantley said the Navy began a formal investigation after receiving an inquiry from Jenny O'Donnell of Port Folio Weekly, a Hampton Roads alternative newspaper, asking about Sharpe and "alleging his involvement in possible supremacist activities."
Sharpe could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.
"Evidently he's affiliated with an anti-Semitic group, and that's illegal in the U.S. Navy," Brantley said. Brantley cited Navy Regulation 1167, which states, "No person in the Naval Service shall participate in any organization that espouses supremacist causes."
Brantley said Sharpe reported aboard the Vinson in June 2006; he is on administrative leave during the investigation.
The Vinson is currently undergoing a refueling and complex overhaul at the Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks white supremacists and hate groups, Sharpe runs two "radical traditionalist" Catholic organizations that espouse anti-Semitic views, the Legion of St. Louis and IHS Press.
Read what the Southern Poverty Law Center had to say about Sharpe. (http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/03/ntpaorelieved070309/)
I sent off the following letter to the editor of Navy Times. The letter has not been published. Indeed, it is not likely to be published. However, the issues raised in the letter deserve an airing sooner rather than later:
To the editor:
Lieutenant Commander John Sharpe, the Public Affairs Officer for the U.S.N. Aircraft Carrier Carl Vinson, has been relieved of his duties because of allegations that he is involved in "supremacist" activities (Navy Times, March 9, 2007). Jim Brantley, a spokesman for Fleet Forces Command, says that it is evidently the case that Lt. Cmdr. Sharpe is affiliated with the anti-Semitic group.
There are some particular difficulties with Mr. Brantley's statement.
1) Mr. Brantley (and Navy Times, it should be pointed out), accepts the Southern Poverty Law Center as an unbiased, objective source of information about what constitutes "anti-Semitic" activity. Does the mere, gratuitous interpretation of a Catholic's activities by non-Catholics constitute enough grounds to relieve a Naval officer with an unblemished record from his assignment?
2) There have been numerous refutations of the Southern Poverty Law Center report since it was issued. Why was there no effort on the part of Navy Times to do its due journalistic diligence and investigate the record of the Southern Poverty Law Center and its publicity-seeking head, Mr. Morris Dees?
These are procedural questions, to be sure. There are others of substance. One, for example, is whether it is an act of "hatred" to seek the conversion of Jews to Catholicism. If this is so, then Saint Peter himself would stand guilty of being an anti-Semite for the discourse he gave on Pentecost Sunday that resulted in the conversion of over 3,000 Jews from all over the Mediterranean. Or, if the truth be told, is this precisely the point being made by the Southern Poverty Law Center: that anyone who dares to be faithful to the mission the God-Man gave His disciples on Ascension Thursday to make disciples of all nations is a "hater" and must be silenced by false accusations and stripped of the means to support their families?
In other words, we are reliving the very words spoken by the leaders of the Sanhedrin to Saint Peter: "And calling in the apostles, after they had scourged them, they charged them that they should not speak at all in the name of Jesus; and they dismissed them." (Acts 5:40 The Apostles, however, rejoiced they were accounted worthy to suffer reproach for the name of Jesus. And every day they ceased not in the temple, and from house to house, to teach and preach Christ Jesus." (Acts 5: 41-42)
Seeking the conversion of Jews and others was considered a "hate" crime punishable by scourging and death in the First Century. We have returned to the days when those who seek to do the same in the Twenty-first Century are considered "guilty" of the same kind of "hate" crime. History, sadly, is repeating itself right in the annals of the United States Navy. Emperor Nero himself, who started the persecutions of Catholics by the full power and might of the Roman Empire, in the year 67 A.D. could not be prouder of the statements made by Mr. Brantley and the summary action taken by the United States Navy.
Sincerely yours.

Navy spokesman Jim Brantley and Navy Times reporter Andrew Scutro must do Lieutenant Commander Sharpe justice by researching the various refutations of the Southern Poverty Law Center "special intelligence" report and informing their readers that the Southern Poverty Law Center is indeed an organization that proselytizes an active hatred of Catholics who take seriously their obligations to try to plant the seeds of all men to the true Faith lest their perish for all eternity outside of the maternal bosom of the Catholic Church. Here is a list, found on the Daily Catholic website, of articles that refute the Southern Poverty Law Center (and discuss the background of Mr. Morris Dees):
It will be quite interesting to see if Messrs. Brantley and Scutro do their due diligence and follow-up with a full investigation of the facts of this sorry episode in the history of the United States Navy, which is continuing the trend of Christophobia in each of the branches of the armed services of the United States of America, one of the great joys of the "religious liberty" that is enshrined in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. It will also be quite interesting to see if the United States Navy will investigate the facts that condemn the Talmud as a document purveying actual hatred of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and of His Most Blessed Mother, to say nothing of fomenting hatred of all followers of Our Lord. (See, for example, Father I.B. Pranaitis's work on the Talmud, talmud1 and Talmud Unmasked Part Two, and a more recent work by Michael A. Hoffman, The Truth About the Talmud: Judaism's Holiest Book, that has been brought to my attention recently.)
Pope Leo XIII noted in Immortale Dei that a nation that recognizes no religion as true will one day reach the point where its de facto state religion is atheism, which is the lowest common denominator that a "pluralistic" nation can agree upon, a lowest common-denominator that is at the very heart of the Judeo-Masonry that seeks to make war upon the Catholic Church and her Divinely-appointed mission to seek to convert all men and all nations to the Faith entrusted to her and her alone by the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity made Man in Our Lady's Virginal and Immaculate Womb:
Now, when the State rests on foundations like those just named -- and for the time being they are greatly in favor -- it readily appears into what and how unrightful a position the Church is driven. For, when the management of public business is in harmony with doctrines of such a kind, the Catholic religion is allowed a standing in civil society equal only, or inferior, to societies alien from it; no regard is paid to the laws of the Church, and she who, by the order and commission of Jesus Christ, has the duty of teaching all nations, finds herself forbidden to take any part in the instruction of the people. With reference to matters that are of twofold jurisdiction, they who administer the civil power lay down the law at their own will, and in matters that appertain to religion defiantly put aside the most sacred decrees of the Church. They claim jurisdiction over the marriages of Catholics, even over the bond as well as the unity and the indissolubility of matrimony. They lay hands on the goods of the clergy, contending that the Church cannot possess property. Lastly, they treat the Church with such arrogance that, rejecting entirely her title to the nature and rights of a perfect society, they hold that she differs in no respect from other societies in the State, and for this reason possesses no right nor any legal power of action, save that which she holds by the concession and favor of the government. If in any State the Church retains her own agreement publicly entered into by the two powers, men forthwith begin to cry out that matters affecting the Church must be separated from those of the State.
Their object in uttering this cry is to be able to violate unpunished their plighted faith, and in all things to have unchecked control. And as the Church, unable to abandon her chiefest and most sacred duties, cannot patiently put up with this, and asks that the pledge given to her be fully and scrupulously acted up to, contentions frequently arise between the ecclesiastical and the civil power, of which the issue commonly is that the weaker power yields to the one which is stronger in human resources.
Accordingly, it has become the practice and determination under this condition of public polity (now so much admired by many) either to forbid the action of the Church altogether, or to keep her in check and bondage to the State. Public enactments are in great measure framed with this design. The drawing up of laws, the administration of State affairs, the godless education of youth, the spoliation and suppression of religious orders, the overthrow of the temporal power of the Roman Pontiff, all alike aim to this one end -- to paralyze the action of Christian institutions, to cramp to the utmost the freedom of the Catholic Church, and to curtail her ever single prerogative.
Now, natural reason itself proves convincingly that such concepts of the government of a State are wholly at variance with the truth. Nature itself bears witness that all power, of every kind, has its origin from God, who is its chief and most august source.
The sovereignty of the people, however, and this without any reference to God, is held to reside in the multitude; which is doubtless a doctrine exceedingly well calculated to flatter and to inflame many passions, but which lacks all reasonable proof, and all power of insuring public safety and preserving order. Indeed, from the prevalence of this teaching, things have come to such a pass that may hold as an axiom of civil jurisprudence that seditions may be rightfully fostered. For the opinion prevails that princes are nothing more than delegates chosen to carry out the will of the people; whence it necessarily follows that all things are as changeable as the will of the people, so that risk of public disturbance is ever hanging over our heads.
To hold, therefore, that there is no difference in matters of religion between forms that are unlike each other, and even contrary to each other, most clearly leads in the end to the rejection of all religion in both theory and practice. And this is the same thing as atheism, however it may differ from it in name. Men who really believe in the existence of God must, in order to be consistent with themselves and to avoid absurd conclusions, understand that differing modes of divine worship involving dissimilarity and conflict even on most important points cannot all be equally probable, equally good, and equally acceptable to God.
As I noted in
Hating Without Distinction, we should not be surprised that Talmudic organizations are attacking Catholics who remain faithful to the perennial mission Our Lord entrusted the Apostles to make converts of all men. Furthermore, we should not be surprised that the agencies of a religiously indifferentist government responds so reflexively when someone is accused of being something that he is not. Lieutenant Commander John Sharpe hates no one. He merely seeks to will the good of all others by defending the truths of the Catholic Faith and making good Catholic works that have been out-of-print for a long time accessible to new generations of Catholics (and to non-Catholics who may be seeking their "salvation" falsely in all of the wrong places, including naturalistic philosophies and ideologies).
More to the point, however, is to note how quickly the Diocese of Richmond distanced itself from anything to do with a man who dissents from not one whit of anything is contained in the Deposit of Faith. Ah yes, those who are looking forward to the "motu proprio" "liberating" the modernized version of the Missale Romanum that was promulgated by John XXIII in 1961 (mistakenly referred to by most commentators as the 1962 Missal) are going to have to continue paying a very high price for being in "good standing" in the conciliar structures. Take one step in the direction of the authentic teaching of the Catholic Church, such as saying publicly that everyone, including Talmudic Jews and Protestants and the Orthodox, need to convert to the Catholic Church, and the liturgical "rug" on which has always stood each of the conciliar "indults" for the offering of the modernized version of the Immemorial Mass of Tradition will be pulled quite quickly by the conciliar authorities.
The counterfeit church of conciliarism has the exact same agenda as the Southern Poverty Law Center, which is only doing what comes all too naturally to those who immortal souls are steeped in the ravages of Original Sin and are thus captive to the devil himself. Indeed, the far more telling part of the aftermath of the Southern Poverty Law Center report is not that such a report was written and taken seriously by secular sources. No, the far more telling part of the aftermath of the Southern Poverty Law Center report is that it has exposed once again the simple fact that the counterfeit church of conciliarism will go to great lengths to deny the following mission that Our Lord gave to the Eleven before He Ascended to the Father's right hand in glory on Ascension Thursday:
All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.(Mt. 28: 18-20)
Did Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ give His Catholic Church the mission to seek with urgency the conversion of all men and nations? Can any Catholic agree to be silent about this mission as the "price" for having highly-conditioned access to a version of the Immemorial Mass of Tradition that was meant to pave the way for the abomination that is the Novus Ordo Missae? No, make no mistake about it, ladies and gentlemen: the fault here is not really with the Southern Poverty Law Center or even the United States Navy. The real fault in the case of Lieutenant Commander John Sharpe rests in the fact that this apostle of the Social Reign of Christ the King stands out as an "anomaly" in the counterfeit church of conciliarism, which seeks to let others do its bidding in trying to silence those who dissent from its anathematized apostasies. The exchange between Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate is quite apposite here:
When the chief priests, therefore, and the servants, had seen him, they cried out, saying: Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith to them: Take him you, and crucify him: for I find no cause in him. The Jews answered him: We have a law; and according to the law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. When Pilate therefore had heard this saying, he feared the more. And he entered into the hall again, and he said to Jesus: Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. Pilate therefore saith to him: Speakest thou not to me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and I have power to release thee?
Jesus answered: Thou shouldst not have any power against me, unless it were given thee from above. Therefore, he that hath delivered me to thee, hath the greater sin.(Jn. 19: 6-11)
The conciliarists might as well have delivered Lieutenant Commander John Sharpe to the enemies of the Faith in the Southern Poverty Law Center and the United States Navy. They are standing by as he is calumniated (along with the other Catholics named in the Southern Poverty Law Center's "special report"), proving once again that they, the conciliarists, are enemies of the Faith and collaborators with those who spit on the Sacred Divinity of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Who warned us that:
And as a man's enemies shall be they of his own household. (Mt. 10: 36)
As the totally consecrated slaves of Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, we must offer her our daily Rosaries with increased fervor and devotion. Indeed, it would be very good to remember the intentions of Lieutenant Commander Sharpe and his wife Randa and their children in one of these Rosaries this very evening. We must remember also that we are to forgive our persecutors and to pray for them. The Gospel of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is indeed one of love, which wills the good of all others, the ultimate expression of which is the salvation of their immortal souls as members of the Catholic Church who persist until their dying breaths in states of Sanctifying Grace. Our Lord really meant it when He said in the Sermon on the Mount:
You have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you: That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who maketh his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust.
For if you love them that love you, what reward shall you have? do not even the publicans this? And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? do not also the heathens this? Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect. (Mt. 5: 43-48)
How many times must we forgive our persecutors? Well, how many times are we forgiven by Our Lord in the Sacred Tribunal of Penance? An infinite number of times:
Then came Peter unto him and said: Lord, how often shall my brother offend against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith to him: I say not to thee, till seven times; but till seventy times seven times. Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a king, who would take an account of his servants. And when he had begun to take the account, one was brought to him, that owed him ten thousand talents. And as he had not wherewith to pay it, his lord commanded that he should be sold, and his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.
But that servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And the lord of that servant being moved with pity, let him go and forgave him the debt. But when that servant was gone out, he found one of his fellow servants that owed him an hundred pence: and laying hold of him, throttled him, saying: Pay what thou owest. And his fellow servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he paid the debt.
Begging Our Lady and her Most Chaste Spouse, Saint Joseph, to help us to be courageous and forgiving in this time of apostasy and betrayal, may we continue our Lenten penances in a spirit of reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The persecutions that have begun at present will fade. The names of the leaders of the Southern Poverty Law Center and the United States Navy will become as obscure as the leaders of the Sanhedrin and the minions of the Caesars from 67 A.D. to 313 A.D. There will be the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which will usher in the rebuilding of the Catholic City spoken of below by Pope Saint Pius X in Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910, thus obliterating the attacks of infidels and the apostasies of the Modernists in one fell swoop:
This, nevertheless, is what they [the leaders of the Sillon] want to do with human society; they dream of changing its natural and traditional foundations; they dream of a Future City built on different principles, and they dare to proclaim these more fruitful and more beneficial than the principles upon which the present Christian City rests.
No, Venerable Brethren, We must repeat with the utmost energy in these times of social and intellectual anarchy when everyone takes it upon himself to teach as a teacher and lawmaker - the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants. omnia instaurare in Christo.
With prayers for our friends to remain steadfast in the midst of persecution and with prayers for the conversion of the enemies of the Faith, may we lift high the Cross of the Divine Redeemer, at which stands Our Lady and Saint Joseph and all of the angels and saints as the Sacrifice offered thereon is re-presented in unbloody manner on altars of Sacrifice. We must remember that our embrace of the Cross, which is the only path to salvation, will never be understood by the world:
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews indeed a stumblingblock, and unto the Gentiles foolishness: But unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
For see your vocation, brethren, that there are not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble: But the foolish things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the wise; and the weak things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the strong. And the base things of the world, and the things that are contemptible, hath God chosen, and things that are not, that he might bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his sight. But of him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and justice, and sanctification, and redemption:
That, as it is written: He that glorieth, may glory in the Lord (1 Cor. 1: 23-31)
May each of us glorieth in the Lord as we lift high the Cross, the instrument on which He wrought our Redemption by the shedding of every single drop of His Most Precious Blood, as the consecrated slaves of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart that was pierced through and through with Seven Swords of Sorrow.

The Longer Version of the Saint Michael the Archangel Prayer, composed by Pope Leo XIII, 1888
O glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, be our defense in the terrible warfare which we carry on against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, spirits of evil. Come to the aid of man, whom God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil. Fight this day the battle of our Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in heaven. That cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels. Behold this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage. Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the Name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay, and cast into eternal perdition, souls destined for the crown of eternal glory. That wicked dragon pours out. as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity. These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on Her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck the sheep may be scattered. Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory. They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude. Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen.
Verse: Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.
Response: The Lion of the Tribe of Juda has conquered the root of David.
Verse: Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.
Response: As we have hoped in Thee.
Verse: O Lord hear my prayer.
Response: And let my cry come unto Thee.
Verse: Let us pray. O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as suppliants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin, immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all other unclean spirits, who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of our souls.
Response: Amen.
