"Dialogue," Anyone, With the "Religion of Peace?"

by Thomas A. Droleskey

Benedict XVI, long a believer in "inter-religious" dialogue, has helped to unleash, albeit totally unwittingly, a firestorm of violence, both rhetorical and actual, resulting thus far in Mohammedans attacking Anglican and Greek Orthodox churches in Gaza and gunmen in Somalia killing a Catholic nun there by shooting her in the back. Threats are being made against the very person of Benedict himself, who has become the object of the demonic fury of the Mohammedan hordes since he included the exchange between a fourteenth century emperor of Constantinople with a Mohammedan imam in an address he delivered at the University of Regensburg on September 12, 2006.

It is important to reiterate here that Benedict did not call Mohammedanism a false religion, something that he probably does indeed believe but has never stated publicly to be the case. He only quoted the exchange that took place in the Fourteenth Century, stating in his Angelus address of September 17, 2006, that the views expressed by the emperor (about Mohammedanism being a religion of evil and violence from its very inception by Mohammed himself) were not his. Benedict expressed regret for the offense that has been caused by his reference to the Fourteenth Century exchange between the emperor and the imam, which was included in his address precisely because he believes that Mohammedans can be convinced to drop their adherence to the "jihad" in order to engage in the conciliar notion of "inter-religious" dialogue as a prelude to learning how to "coexist" peacefully with others in the midst of the reality of a pluralist world.

The controversy engendered by Benedict's remarks show just how completely conciliarism is divorced from reality, no less from Catholicism. That is, Benedict lives in a self-made world of contradiction and paradox. Roman Catholics have something to learn from Protestants in "inter-religious dialogue." The Church of Christ merely "subsists" in the Catholic Church; it is not one and the same. Thus, no one who is involved in the Christian aspects of "ecumenism" should consider himself as having a "corner on the truth." We must be engaged in a "search for truth" on the "essentials," finding those "building stones" upon which Christians of the different "churches" can agree (which is the whole thrust of Principles of Catholic Theology). In other words, the Catholic Church cannot insist that she and she alone has the fullness of truth. She can learn from the "sister churches" in "Christianity."

Benedict's rejection of the Divine Constitution of the Catholic Church, that she is the true Church of Christ and as such has the means to explicate--without the assistance of heretics and schismatics--the articles contained in the Deposit Faith, predisposes him to think that adherents of non-Christian religions must demonstrate themselves to be willing to put aside any claim on "truth" by sitting down with others and "learning" from them in the "search for truth." Thus, messages are sent each year to the representatives of false religions, Hinduism and Buddhism and Mohammedanism, as they celebrate various "holy days" and offer worship to their false gods. The conciliar officials are "encouraging" respect, you see, for "religious liberty," ignoring that such notes are repugnant to God and violative of His First Commandment.

Mohammedans, to their complete credit, want nothing to do with violating the integrity of their false religion. True to their evil and violent roots, Mohammedans want to avenge with violence perceived insults to their false "god," Allah (whose name was invoked last year by Theodore Cardinal McCarrick in a "blessing" following a speech given by King Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the Catholic University of America), and/or to their "prophet," Mohammed himself. Think about this for a moment. Mohammedans get outraged when they believe that their religion, which they believe is the one and only true religion, has been disparaged. Mohammedans love their false god and their false prophets, demonstrating a willingness to kill and to burn and to pillage and to die for them when they been subject to what they consider is sacrilege.

Catholics, having been subjected to nearly a half-century of conciliarism, react with utter indifference to insults given to the Holy Name of the Divine Redeemer, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To be sure, of course, Catholics do not burn or kill or pillage when insults are given to Our Lord or His Most Blessed Mother or to the Catholic Church and the teaching she has been given by Him to safeguard and explicate infallibly until the end of time. However, we are called to be outraged in the midst of offenses the true religion, Catholicism, and to pray for those who perpetrate these outrages, going out of our way to make reparation for them, which is what Fathers Gerardo Zendejas, Greig Gonzales, Joseph and Timothy Pfeiffer of the Society of Saint Pius X did on May 4, 2006, in response to a scurrilous off-Broadway play that blasphemed the Mother of God.

Where was Edward Cardinal Egan, the Archbishop of New York, and the Most Reverend John J. Myers, the Archbishop of Newark, New Jersey, and the Most Reverend Nicholas DeMarzio, the Bishop of Brooklyn, and the Most Reverend William Murphy, the Bishop of Rockville Centre, that Thursday evening in Mary's month, the month of May? Nowhere to be seen, that's where. Nowhere. Oh, each and every single one of them show up promptly at "ecumencial prayer meetings," yes, even with Mohammedans. An initiative undertaken by Catholics outside of the "official structures" to defend the honor of the Mother of God and to make reparation for offenses given to her must be ignored. How is the average Catholic going to be outraged when offenses are given against God and His Most Holy Mother and His true Faith when his or her ostensible shepherds, most of whom are wolves ("vlk" is the Czech word for wolf) in shepherds' clothing who do not seek with urgency the conversion of souls to the true Church, are silent.

Oh, true, there was a bit of noise earlier this year about The Da Vinci Code. A bit of noise. More often than not, however, Catholics actually participate in things that are offensive to Our Lord, including productions that glorify the very thing, sin, that caused Him to suffer so horribly during His Passion and Death. Catholics go to motion pictures where Our Lord's Holy Name is taken in vain. They watch television programs that blaspheme Him and His Most Blessed Mother. They vote for candidates who support the destruction of innocent human life in the womb, both surgically and chemically. Having learned how to "open" themselves up to the world as a result of the enshrinement of the ethos of the world in the Novus Ordo Missae, many Catholics in the conciliar structures live as barbarians who think that the only thing that offends God is their refusal to have "fun" in the "world."

When you look at the matter objectively, though, who can blame them? After all, Archbishop George Niederauer of San Francisco actually praised Brokeback Mountain earlier this year, as have numerous priests, some of them doing so from their conciliar pulpits. How are Catholics supposed to be counter-cultural signs of the true Faith when their ostensible shepherds either support the prevailing evils of the day or refuse to speak out against them. Even though the preponderance of Catholics in the United States, for example, were influenced by the insidious influences of  cultural pluralism prior to the Second Vatican Council they did rally to the Catholic cause when a bishop told them to oppose a movement (William Cardinal Hayes's unstinting opposition to Margaret Sanger's Birth Control League) or to adhere to the Legion of Decency's condemnation of a motion picture. This was due in large measure that they worshiped at a Mass that communicated to them the solemnity of Calvary and the foretaste of eternal glories, taking them out of the world before they re-entered it to be the leaven of the true Faith.

Not so today, however. Angelo Roncalli's "opening up" to the world has convinced the average Catholic that it is no longer to resist the forces of evil, if such a thing exists at all. Thus it is that those who are committed to various objective evils have more integrity and consistency and firmness of position than do those who are nominally baptized members of the true Church.

That is, pro-abortion advocacy groups demand that candidates desiring their considerable financial assistance make absolutely no concessions to anything considered to be "pro-life," including support for the conditional ban on the killing of babies by means of partial birth abortion. Many allegedly "pro-life" groups and spokesmen say that such a support for the conditional ban on partial birth abortions is "good enough" for them, never insisting that candidates be opposed to all abortions, whether surgical or chemical, without any exception whatsoever.

Leftists of all sorts get outraged when some kind of crisis centers around their issue-du-jour. They do not remain quiet when an issue stirs them to action. How sad it is that most Catholics go "ho-hum" when they are told that over 4,000 babies are killed in this country by means of surgical abortion each and every single day. Even praying the Rosary in front of a killing center in order to bear a witness to the horror taking place there--and to make reparation for the crimes being committed and for the conversion of the people committing them--is just too much of a bother. Some might even say, "Oh, that's just the symptom of a larger dogmatic problem." This is certainly true. However, it does not lessen our obligation to be a public witness to the truth of the binding precepts of the Divine positive law and the natural law in every single aspect of our lives.

Adherents of the Talmud go ballistic whenever a Catholic criticizes the policies of the State of Israel. "Anti-Semitism," they proclaim loud and long in order to silence the critics of the government that feels free to use cluster bombs in civilian population centers to root out anyone who even has breathed a word of support for Hezbollah's own policies of death and destruction. How silent are Catholics when our own people, Maronite Rite Catholics (who worship in the same idiom, Aramaic, that Our Lord Himself spoke), are killed and dispossessed.

This list could go on and on. Those committed to various ideas or actions that are evil in the objective order of things time and time again demonstrate more consistency than the Catholics who have been neutralized by conciliarism into thinking that the most enlightened attitude we can adopt is to "live and let live," concentrating on material success and personal pleasure as the principal purposes of human existence. How curious it is that most Catholics react so passively to the outrages visited upon their Faith by the forces of popular culture (so-called). Well, actually, it isn't all that curious. After all, Catholics have become accustomed to warfare being waged against God and His Holy Truths within the context of the conciliar structures. Why should they be outraged at offenses committed by the forces of Judeo-Masonry in the world when the forces of conciliarism blaspheme God and His Deposit of Faith all the time by deconstructing it regularly? The enemies of the Church have become very bold, taking their places in the hearts and minds of many of those who control the conciliar structures.

Consider these words from Pope Pius XI's Quas Primas, December 11, 1925:

If We ordain that the whole Catholic world shall revere Christ as King, We shall minister to the need of the present day, and at the same time provide an excellent remedy for the plague which now infects society. We refer to the plague of anti-clericalism, its errors and impious activities. This evil spirit, as you are well aware, Venerable Brethren, has not come into being in one day; it has long lurked beneath the surface. The empire of Christ over all nations was rejected. The right which the Church has from Christ himself, to teach mankind, to make laws, to govern peoples in all that pertains to their eternal salvation, that right was denied. Then gradually the religion of Christ came to be likened to false religions and to be placed ignominiously on the same level with them. It was then put under the power of the state and tolerated more or less at the whim of princes and rulers. Some men went even further, and wished to set up in the place of God's religion a natural religion consisting in some instinctive affection of the heart. There were even some nations who thought they could dispense with God, and that their religion should consist in impiety and the neglect of God. The rebellion of individuals and states against the authority of Christ has produced deplorable consequences. We lamented these in the Encyclical Ubi arcano; we lament them today: the seeds of discord sown far and wide; those bitter enmities and rivalries between nations, which still hinder so much the cause of peace; that insatiable greed which is so often hidden under a pretense of public spirit and patriotism, and gives rise to so many private quarrels; a blind and immoderate selfishness, making men seek nothing but their own comfort and advantage, and measure everything by these; no peace in the home, because men have forgotten or neglect their duty; the unity and stability of the family undermined; society in a word, shaken to its foundations and on the way to ruin. We firmly hope, however, that the feast of the Kingship of Christ, which in future will be yearly observed, may hasten the return of society to our loving Savior. It would be the duty of Catholics to do all they can to bring about this happy result. Many of these, however, have neither the station in society nor the authority which should belong to those who bear the torch of truth. This state of things may perhaps be attributed to a certain slowness and timidity in good people, who are reluctant to engage in conflict or oppose but a weak resistance; thus the enemies of the Church become bolder in their attacks. But if the faithful were generally to understand that it behooves them ever to fight courageously under the banner of Christ their King, then, fired with apostolic zeal, they would strive to win over to their Lord those hearts that are bitter and estranged from him, and would valiantly defend his rights.

Does anyone really want to contend with a straight face that Benedict XVI believes that it is necessary to fight "courageously under the banner" of Christ the King? Indeed, he has said that there can be no return to Christendom. That age in history has "passed." The conciliar church has "had" to make her accommodation with the principles of 1789 and of the "modern" world, choosing to fire "blanks" at the evils of our day, including abortion, by speaking in naturalistic and/or interdenominational terms. He cannot understand why the Mohammedans are unwilling to makea like accommodation.

It is no surprise, therefore, that Benedict XVI did not use his address of the University of Regensburg to invite the Mohammedans to convert to the true Faith. True to his mentor, the late Hans Urs von Balthasar, the former Joseph Ratzinger believes that the words of Our Lord can be understood in ways that do not correspond to what the Church has always taught. He admitted that his approach could lead one to believe that there is a "discontinuity" with the past, although he said in his own paradoxical way that we must see "continuity" in "discontinuity." Thus, he does not consider himself bound to the mission that Our Lord gave the Apostles the mission to proclaim His Holy Truths in all ages, something that does not include "inter-religious dialogue" or "inter-religious" prayer meetings.

Out of a true love for souls, a pope should seek with urgency the conversion of all others to Catholic Church, including those steeped in the horrors of Original Sin, be they adherents of the Talmud or the Koran. This is what I wrote six and one-half years ago in the printed pages of Christ or Chaos following the debacle of John Paul II's visit to Jerusalem, which included the spectacle of the ostensible Vicar of Christ, whom I believed at the time to be unquestionably the pope, appearing as an equal with the Grand Rabbi of Jerusalem and a Mohammedan imam. Perhaps we will one day have a pope who will make these words, written at a time I was beginning to publicly criticize John Paul's ecumenism, his own when addressing those steeped in the ravages of Original Sin:

'My dear friends:

"I come to you as the Vicar of Christ, the visible head of the Church established by the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity made Man upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope. I am the Successor of Saint Peter, who stood right here in Jerusalem on Pentecost Sunday to exhort the inhabitants of this holy city to see in Jesus of Nazareth the long promised Messiah Who had paid back in His own Sacred Humanity the blood debt owed by Adam's sin of disobedience to God in the Garden of Eden. I cannot speak to you in any other terms than a disciple of Christ. He professed Himself to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He told the crowd in the synagogue at Capernaum, that they would have no life within them unless they ate of His flesh and drank of His blood. He spoke in clear terms, making simple declarative statements which are either true or false. I know them to be true because He is the Truth. As His vicar on earth, I have the obligation to do here in this holy city what the first Pope did: to invite you into the true Church, to see in Jesus Christ your only hope, your only path to true peace and liberation from that which causes all of the problems of the world, the horror that goes by the name of sin.

"This land has been wracked by war and violence ever since Our Lord was crucified here nearly two millennia ago. While it is true that the sins of all people from all epochs of history motivated the crowd on Good Friday to cry out for the Crucifixion of the God-Man, it is nevertheless true that there are consequences for the choices we make. This land will never know peace unless those who belong to the religion which was superseded by the New and Eternal Covenant instituted by Our Lord in the Upper Room right in this very city on Holy Thursday convert their hearts to the Word who was made Flesh and dwelt amongst us. This land will never know peace unless those who belong to a false religion, Mohammedism, come to recognize that the one they honor as a prophet sent by God, Mohammed, was a liar and a deceiver who did the work of the Devil in seeking to destroy by force the Christian face of the Middle East and North Africa, and whose disciples tried to take Europe by that same show of force. There can be no peace without Jesus Christ.

"The peace of Jesus Christ has nothing to do with sentimentality. The peace of Jesus Christ is not merely an absence of armed conflict. The peace of Jesus Christ is not a sense of universal brotherhood, wherein we all agree to disagree in order to avoid conflict. No. The peace offered by Jesus Christ is the peace which accrues in the souls of those who are in states of sanctifying grace, souls who have the very inner life of the Blessed Trinity living and pulsating within them. This peace is never achieved once and for all. Human beings can lose the peace of Christ by committing a mortal sin, thereby expelling God from within them. Serious sin and the life of grace cannot coexist in the same soul. No, the peace of Christ must be treasured with every beat of a human heart, consecrated as that heart must be to His own Sacred Heart and to the Immaculate Heart of His Most Blessed Mother, Mary of Nazareth.

"The state of societies and the world depends upon the state of individual souls. Even many of the pagan philosophers of antiquity--such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Cicero--understood that those who defy the natural law (which was referred to by Moses when he told the people of the Old Covenant that the commandments inscribed by the very finger of God on the stone tablets on Mount Sinai had been written first by Him on the flesh of human hearts) introduce disorder into their own souls, and hence the world. They did not know why human beings had the propensity to transgress the natural law. But they saw the results of what happened when people did so. The Old Testament presents us with vivid descriptions of what happened to the Chosen People whenever they and/or their leaders defied God, choosing to relish in their own political power and material wealth. They were chastised by God severely for their infidelity.

"Sin is not only a rebellion against God. It is also a rebellion against our own human nature, which is made to know, to love, and to serve God. That is why so many people today are so hostile and angry. Although they do not realize it, they are at war with themselves because they are at war with God. Thus, they seek 'salvation' in all of the wrong places, plunging themselves--and the world in which they live--more and more into the darkness. This need not be the case, my friends. This need not be the case.

"The events which took place in this Holy Land two thousand years ago were meant to transform the lives of every human being who would live from that point until the end of time. By His Incarnation as a helpless embryo in His Blessed Mother's virginal and immaculate womb, by His Nativity in poverty in Bethlehem, by his flight from the jealous Herod the Great into Egypt, by His Hidden Years in Nazareth working at hard manual labor, by His forty days' fast in the desert, by His Public Ministry, Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension to the Father's right hand, Jesus Christ showed Himself to be the Suffering Servant prophesied by Isaiah. He is the only path to peace for individual souls, and hence the world.

"The peace produced in souls by the shedding of Our Lord's Most Precious Blood is meant to soothe the savage within us, to place us in a state of friendship with God. It is meant to help us see the world through the eyes of the true faith, and to see in each human soul the Divine impress. The peace produced in souls by the graces won for us on the Holy Cross in this holy city is meant to help us realize that there is nothing we can endure in this life (no pain, no rejection, no misunderstanding, no injustice, no act of violence, no calumny or slander) which is the equal of what one of our venial sins did to the God-Man on Golgotha? Who are we then to hold grudges against others when we, the executioners of Christ, have been forgiven by Him so freely? We must offer forgiveness to all others in the same manner that Christ, Whose blessed hands and feet were nailed to the Cross by us by means of our sins, forgave (and forgives) us.

"Thus, my friends, the path to peace in the Middle East is the same path to peace everywhere else in the world: the daily path of taking up our crosses and following Christ unreservedly. To my Jewish hosts, I say to you: Be converted to Christ through His true Church. Be fed by the Eucharist, the true Manna which has come down from Heaven. Be liberated by the New Passover instituted to liberate you from sins. Make the New and Eternal Covenant instituted by Jesus Christ as your own. See in your Arab neighbors, whose land you took so unjustly in 1948, your brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. Treat them as you would Jesus Christ. Forgive them for the acts of violence which have taken innocent lives. Make restitution to them for the land you took, as simple justice requires.

"To my Christian Arab hosts, I say: Forgive the Israelis their crimes against you. Forgive as you know Christ has forgiven you. Work to build a land based on true unity, which comes only from Our Lord through the Church He created upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope. Be ceaseless in your efforts to convert your Mohammedan Arabs to the Cross of Christ.

"To my Mohammedan hosts, I say: Renounce a false religion. It was the swath of destruction inspired by Mohammed which led Catholic Europe to try to re-conquer this Holy Land, taken as it was by the force of the sword. You venerate Our Lady. But you must understand that Mary of Nazareth was responsible for the victory of the Christian forces over the Turks in the Battle of Lepanto. She helped to turn back Mohammedan forces during the Battle of Vienna in 1683. Let her, Our Lady of Victory, lead you to the One she enfleshed in her virginal and immaculate womb for your salvation. Believe in His victory over sin and death on the Holy Cross. Put down the sword. Put away your hatred. Be reconciled in Christ, and see in your Jewish adversaries your brothers and sisters in the Lord.

"Yes, my friends, there will never be any peace in this blessed region unless each of you embraces Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and begin to build a society wherein the instrument of your salvation, the Holy Cross, is displayed everywhere. For the Cross is our hope. The Cross is the means by which we can hope to pass from this vale of tears to know an unending Easter Sunday of glory in the New and Eternal Jerusalem, Heaven itself.

"I make my own the words of the first Pope, spoken to the Sanhedrin nearly two thousand years ago: 'Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, Whom heaven must receive until the time for establishing all that God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old. . . . Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Whom you crucified, Whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man is standing before you well. This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, but which has become the head of the corner. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other Name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved'" (Acts 3: 19-21; 4: 8-12).

Alas, conciliarism knows better than the simple proclamation of the truths of the Catholic Faith. Conciliarism knows better than trusting entirely in the graces won for us by Our Lord on Calvary and that flow to us through the loving hands of His Most Blessed Mother, the Mediatrix of all graces, after such a simple proclamation of the truths of the Catholic Faith. How sad--and I mean this very sincerely, yes, how sad--it is that the ostensibly reigning pontiff goes out of his way to attempt to convert Mohammedans to accept an embrace of "inter-religious" dialogue when it would be a very simple thing to exhort them to convert to the true Faith and to commend them all to Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart.

We must pray that the former Joseph Ratzinger sees the reaction of much of the Mohammedan world is indicative of the fact that those steeped in false religions need to be regenerated in the living waters of Baptism without delay. We must pray that he abandons his lifelong pursuit of a "search for truth" and comes to understand, if no other reason than the good of his own soul, that there is only one path to salvation, the Catholic Church, and that all men must be invited to seek shelter in her maternal bosom lest their perish in Hell for all eternity after their deaths.

Even more to the point, however, we must pray that we will muster up some sense of outrage concerning the crimes that conciliarists have done to the true Faith in the name of their Modernist aberrations and innovations. Conciliarism's unremitting warfare on the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church and and the form of worship that prevailed in the Rome Rite for nearly two millennia, has helped to desensitize Catholics to the evils in the world as a result of accustoming them to profane spectacles in matters of doctrine and worship. Yes, true, we must transcend outrage and make acts of reparation, recognizing that our own sins are responsible for the foul miasma in which we find ourselves at present, both ecclesiastically and civilly, the fact that so few see the problems and recognize that conciliarism's embrace of false religions comes from the devil and leads men to Hell is a sign that the "religion of peace" may very well be used as the instrumentality to impose a chastisement upon us for our infidelity to these simple words:

And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world. (Mt. 28: 18-20)

Keep close to Our Lady. Fulfill her Fatima requests. Wear your Brown Scapular and your Miraculous Medal. Hand out Green Scapulars and Miraculous Medals to those who are outside of the Church, including those who have fallen away. Say as many Rosaries each day as your state-in-life permits. We must stand by Our Lady as her she stands by the foot of the Cross of her Divine Son's Holy Church in these days of apostasy and betrayal and accommodation to the evil forces of a false age. May our lives of penance and prayer and fasting and almsgiving, especially during the upcoming Ember Days, fortify us to strive for spiritual perfection so that our offerings made to Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart may result in ushering in the day of Christ the King and of herself, our Immaculate Queen.

The Longer Version of the Saint Michael the Archangel Prayer, composed by Pope Leo XIII, 1888

O glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, be our defense in the terrible warfare which we carry on against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, spirits of evil.  Come to the aid of man, whom God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil.  Fight this day the battle of our Lord, together with  the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in heaven.  That cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels.  Behold this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage.  Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the Name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay, and cast into eternal perdition, souls destined for the crown of eternal glory.  That wicked dragon pours out. as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.  These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on Her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck the sheep may be scattered.  Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory.  They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.  Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church.  Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations.  Amen.

Verse: Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.

Response: The Lion of the Tribe of Juda has conquered the root of David.

Verse: Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.

Response: As we have hoped in Thee.

Verse: O Lord hear my prayer.

Response: And let my cry come unto Thee.

Verse: Let us pray.  O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as suppliants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin, immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all other unclean spirits, who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of our souls.

Response:  Amen.
