As "Shocked" as Claude Rains

by Thomas A. Droleskey

Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?

Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]

Croupier: Your winnings, sir.

Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much.

[aloud]

Captain Renault: Everybody out at once! (Dialogue from Casablanca)

Professional political activists in our world of naturalism sometimes forget that there are people who don't have five-second attention-spans and who actually pay attention to the details of public policy debates. Some of these professional political activists would have us believe, for example, that it is "shocking" that sixteen Catholic members of the United States Senate joined thirty-six other senators to vote in favor of a bill that would rescind what is called the "Mexico City Policy," which denies the use of American taxpayer dollars, routed through the United States Agency for International Development, to international "family planning" organizations for the surgical dismemberment of children on the grounds of these organizations' facilities and prohibits them from counseling women to consider having a surgical abortion as a means of "family planning." Funding for international "family planning" agencies provided by the United States Department of State has been subjected to this same "international gag rule" since 2003. This entire issue, however, is a sham from beginning to end. The only thing that we should be "shocked" about at this late date is that there are still people who swallow the propaganda disseminated by phony "pro-life" naturalists and from the pro-death naturalists.

It is important to begin by exploding, for the umpteenth time, I might add, the myths about the current incarnation of the Mexico City Policy that dates from the actual text of the administrative policies that the Bush administration attached to the policy (which policies were assessed by Howard Phillips in his Howard Phillips Issues and Strategies Bulletin in April of 2001):

1) American taxpayer funds are only denied to organizations that promote abortion as a means of "family planning." This means that direct counseling in behalf of abortion can be done if a woman claims some that she falls into one of the three usual "exceptions" (rape, incest, alleged threats to her life) for seeking an abortion.

2) Employees of international "family planning" organizations may meet with their clients off of the premises of those organizations to counsel them to use abortion as a means of "family planning" and to direct them where to kill their babies surgically.

3) International "family planning" organizations can propagate in behalf of abortion abroad as long as they "segregate" their funds.

The Mexico City Policy, therefore, is a total sham, one that is designed to hoodwink the ever-gullible and sleepy group of people known as "pro-life voters" into singing "hosannas" of praise about George Walker Bush's nonexistent "defense" of preborn human life, which he believes can be sliced and diced in three so-called "hard" cases, making him simply less pro-abortion than those who are completely pro-abortion. Once again, folks, repeat after me: NO ONE WHO BELIEVES THAT THERE IS A SINGLE EXCEPTION TO THE INVIOLABILITY OF INNOCENT HUMAN LIFE IS "PRO-LIFE." SUCH A PERSON IS SIMPLY LESS PRO-ABORTION THAN THOSE WHO SUPPORT BABY-KILLING WITHOUT ANY RESTRICTIONS.

Furthermore, the American funding for international "family planning" programs that is provided, both by means of the United States Agency for International Development the United States Department of State, has been and continues to be directly responsible for the chemical assassinations of millions of preborn babies by means of abortifacient contraceptive pills and devices. Anyone who votes to fund such programs is a cooperator in baby-killing and in the direct denial of the absolute Sovereignty of God over the sanctity of marriage. No one who supports contraception in principle and/or who supports its subsidy by taxpayer dollars, either domestically (Title X programs) or internationally, is "pro-life." No one who believes that private pharmaceutical concerns have any right at all to design, produce, manufacture, distribute and market contraceptive pills and devices is "pro-life."

It is no "shock" at all that pro-abortion Catholics in public life cast votes in favor of abortion. What should be shocking is how "pro-life" voters continue to be duped by the disinformation that is disseminated about such things as the Mexico City Policy in order to "spin" it as some great measure to defend in the inviolability of innocent preborn human life when the truth is otherwise. Facts are facts. Unfortunately, however, facts do not seem to matter much to people who want to believe in myths, who want to believe that "progress" is being made as they overlook the plain fact that babies are killed by means of surgical abortion at pretty much the same rate as they were being killed on January 20, 2001.

As bad as it is that "Catholics" in public life support all abortions at all times--and that they remain in perfectly good "canonical" standing in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism, it is worse that there are "Catholics" associated with various "think tanks" and fund-raising mills who lie in order to convince their fellow citizens that policies that permit baby-killing are actually signs of "pro-life" progress, uttering not one blessed word against George W. Bush for his support of "exceptions" to the Fifth Commandment's absolute prohibition against the direct, intentional taking of innocent human life and for his personal support and his administration's funding of the evil of contraception.

Although the list below, published in a special Communique of the American Life League on December 17, 2004, is dated (and was included in article I wrote for The Remnant in January of 2005), it is useful to publish it anew so as to attempt to demonstrate to readers with minds open to an acceptance of the truth that they should pay no attention to the men behind the curtains of various "pro-life" organizations who have been deceiving them for so long:

Communique - Dec. 17, 2004 special edition

BUSH'S PRO-LIFE RECORD: Some people argue that President George W. Bush is enthusiastically pro-life. President Bush's record speaks for itself:

  • Bush appointed an almost wholly pro-abortion cabinet. His "pro-life" cabinet members during his first term include former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson at HHS, who supports human embryo research, and Attorney General John Ashcroft.
  • Bush broke his campaign promise and authorized funding for human embryonic stem cell research. The supposedly "narrow" policy is managed by Thompson and has expanded, just as he supported it in Wisconsin.
  • Bush's appointed National Institute of Health director, Dr. Elias Zerhouni, is a pioneer in embryonic stem cell research.
  • As a consequence of Thompson's appointment, HHS has done nothing about the highly irregular approval of RU-486 during the Clinton administration.
  • President Bush appointed pro-aborts to his bioethics council, which produced a split opinion on human cloning stating the commission could not come to a consensus on the "moral status of the human embryo." His handpicked bioethicists confirmed the ludicrous claim of Roe v. Wade that scientific and ethical experts cannot come to consensus on when life begins. Though this is absurd in any authentic representation of science or ethics, it has allowed the administration political cover behind their so-called "experts."
  • Despite his well-publicized statement that he was completely opposed to all human cloning, Bush blocked a vote on the Brownback/Landreiu amendment in the Senate to ban the patenting of human embryos.
  • The Bush administration's attorney was on the wrong side of the NOW v. Scheidler case, intervening on behalf of the plaintiffs in the racketeering suit against Joseph Scheidler and other pro-life activists. The U.S. Solicitor General agreed that there were grounds for considering clinic blockades a form of extortion.
  • Despite his statements regarding the sanctity of human life, Bush positively requires a legal freedom of killing preborns when the children are conceived in rape, incest, or when their mothers' lives are allegedly in danger due to their pregnancy (which is medically never the case).
  • On the subject of contraceptives and abortifacients, Bush has maintained millions in funding for Planned Parenthood, and has signed hundreds of millions of dollars of funding for abortifacient chemicals worldwide. His Mexico City policy permits such funding to go to government family planning programs that promote abortion as long as they "segregate" the funds. In both 2002 and 2003, the Bush administration approved USAID population control funding of $446.5 million, higher than the $425.0 million Clinton approved for 2001.
  • Bush approved an expanded Medicaid coverage of abortifacients in New York.
  • His AIDS package provides $15 billion for potential payments to overseas organizations that promote abortion including the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
  • Bush's White House counsel (and attorney general nominee), Alberto Gonzales, is being whispered to be "on the short list" as a possible nominee for the Supreme Court should there be a vacancy. As a Texas Supreme Court justice, Gonzales voted to authorize abortion for teenagers without parental involvement, and other rulings during his tenure on the court raise doubts about how he would rule on life-related matters if he were confirmed as a U.S. Supreme Court justice.
  • Bush's 2004 budget request for Title X of the Public Health Service Act, is $264 million, or $11 million more than the program was appropriated during Bill Clinton's last year in office. Planned Parenthood alone expended nearly $59 million from this program in fiscal year 2001.
  • Bush's 2004 budget request for international population control programs/USAID is $425 million, plus an additional $25 million set aside for the U.N. Population Fund if it becomes eligible for U.S. funding. During the last year Clinton was in office, USAID population control programs were appropriated $425 million.

This comprehensive list is not exhaustive, it should be noted. It does not list the number of completely pro-abortion Republican candidates for public office for whom George W. Bush has endorsed and campaigned, including preferring the completely pro-abortion Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania) to a partially pro-abortion challenger, then U.S. Representative Patrick Toomey, in a 2004 primary race. It does not include the fact that contraceptives were among the first things to be introduced into Iraq following the unjust and immoral American invasion of that country on March 19, 2007. It does not include the fact that the Bush administration approved over-the-counter sales for the so-called "Plan B" "emergency" contraceptive/abortifacient to women who are eighteen years of age or older. It does not include the fact that the Bush administration has done nothing--as in zero, zip, zilch--to reverse the September, 2000, decision of the Food and Drug Administration under the administration of former President William Jefferson Blyth Clinton and Vice President Albert Arnold Gore, Jr., to permit marketing of the human pesticide, RU-486, the French abortion pill. The list above does not include the fact that Bush's nominee to replace Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General of the United States of America, Michael Mukasey, has been supporting the presidential campaign of the pro-abortion Catholic named Rudolph William Giuliani. Oh, the list recited in 2004 could go on and on and on.

Debate over the Mexico City Policy, therefore, is a sham and a game. It is a sham in that babies continue to be killed surgically with American taxpayer dollars in the cases where it can be asserted that an abortion is desired for reasons other than "family planning." It is a sham in that officials from the pro-abortion organizations can counsel for "family planning" abortions off of the premises of their organization. It is a game in that Congressional Democrats know that President George W. Bush is going to veto the bill that seeks to overturn the Mexico City Policy, thereby hoping to energize their pro-death political base. It is a game in that George Walker Bush, who knows that the Mexico City Policy is a sham and a game, can "demonstrate" once again to the pro-life voters he has been duping for the past eight years that he is truly a "pro-life" "champion," something that will permit the Republican Party and various advocacy groups to raise endless millions of dollars from direct-mail and Internet fund-raising letters (and we haven't gotten precisely two donations, totaling $55.00, via the United States Postal Service in the last ten days!). It is a tragedy that people fall for these shams and games over and over and over again.

When you think about it, however, it is only natural that so many Catholics would fall prey to the myths about various "conservative" Republicans being "pro-life" "champions." After all, the United States of America is founded on the myth that it is possible for a nation to know social order absent a submission to the teaching authority of the Catholic Church in all that pertains to the good of souls, that it is possible for men to know order in their own individual lives without a submission to that same magisterial authority, which alone is the sole repository and infallible explicator of the truths that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Himself gave to her by means of the Deposit of Faith. The United States of America is founded on the Protestant and Judeo-Masonic fable that it is possible for men to be virtuous on a sustained basis throughout their lives without having belief in, access to and cooperation to the Sanctifying Graces won for them by the shedding of every single drop of Our Lord's Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross and that flow into their hearts and souls through the loving hands of Our Lady, the Mediatrix of All Graces, who is meant to be honored publicly by men and their nations as their Immaculate Mother and Queen.

Catholics have been fed a steady diet of the Americanist heresy throughout the course of this nation's history. The Americanist heresy, which influenced the development of Dignitatis Humanae, December 7, 1965, of the "Second" Vatican Council, rejects the immutable teaching of the Catholic Church that the civil state has the obligation to recognize her as the true religion and to subordinate itself in all that pertains to the good of souls to her teaching and disciplinary authority, the latter of which is exercised only as a Last Resort following the exhausting of her Indirect Power of teaching and preaching and exhortation. Catholics trained to view the world through the prism of the Declaration of Independence and the religiously indifferentist Constitution of the United States of America wind up viewing the Church through that same prism.

Americanism, therefore, results in two different sides of the same naturalist, pluralist coin. The first is the production of Catholics who are so wound up in the "American way" of the individualism of civil and religious liberty that they believe it is possible to support objectively moral evils under cover of law so as not to offend majoritarian sentiments. The second is the production of Catholics who believe that the way to oppose these moral evils is by working for the restoration of "correct" principles of Constitutional interpretation. Both sides of this same naturalist, pluralist coin argue on the same Americanist terms, only disagreeing as to how to interpret those terms and apply them in concrete circumstances. Both sides of this same naturalist, pluralist coin reject, utterly and completely, any notion that it is necessary to seek the conversion of the nation to the Catholic Faith, which must inform every single aspect of personal and social life without any exception whatsoever.

Most American Catholics have been brainwashed into accepting the notion that the anti-Incarnational, religiously indifferent principles of the American founding are perfectly compatible with the Catholic Faith. The propaganda that was propagated by many, although far from all, Catholic prelates and religious communities, in the Nineteenth and early-Twentieth Centuries borders on the sin of nationalism, which is a violation of the First Commandment, placing a disordered exaltation of one's nation over love of God as He has revealed Himself exclusively through His true Church. Many examples have been provided on this site (and in the written pages of Christ or Chaos between September of 1996 and June of 2003). A new one, however, has just surfaced, and it demonstrates exactly why so many Catholics view the world through the prism of Americanism rather than through the eyes of the true Church, focusing especially on her immutable Social Teaching that the thesis of the separation of Church and State is, as Pope Saint Pius X noted in Vehementer Nos, February 11, 1906, one that is absolutely false.

A book published by the Christian Brothers in 1913 contained the following section after describing the martyrdom of Saint Felicitas and her seven sons:

"In this country of ours we will not be called upon, like these seven noble boys to give up our life for our Faith. The children of American are living in a land of civil and religious liberty, and not in Rome under pagan emperors. There is not here, and there never will be, any law to hinder us from making open profession of what we believe, to prevent us from declaring our belief in God, the Father, Creator, of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord."

Never? Ever? At any time? Can you see the influence of the mythology produced by Americanism? Never? Exalting the concepts of "civil and religious liberty" that had been condemned by Popes Pius VII, Gregory XVI, Pius IX, Leo XIII, and St. Pius X, to name just a few. Were the Christian Brothers (whose book quoted the thirty-third degree Freemason Theodore Roosevelt, who was speaking in purely naturalistic terms, to amplify a point made by Saint Paul!) responsible for this book ignorant of these words contained in Pope Pius VII's Post Tam Diuturnas, April 28, 1814:

For when the liberty of all "religions" is indiscriminately asserted, by this very fact truth is confounded with error and the holy and immaculate Spouse of Christ, the Church, outside of which there can be no salvation, is set on a par with the sects of heretics and with Judaic perfidy itself. For when favour and patronage is promised even to the sects of heretics and their ministers, not only their persons, but also their very errors, are tolerated and fostered: a system of errors in which is contained that fatal and never sufficiently to be deplored HERESY which, as St. Augustine says (de Haeresibus, no.72), "asserts that all heretics proceed correctly and tell the truth: which is so absurd that it seems incredible to me."

Were the Christian Brothers ignorant of these words contained in Pope Gregory XVI's Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832?

This shameful font of indifferentism gives rise to that absurd and erroneous proposition which claims that liberty of conscience must be maintained for everyone. It spreads ruin in sacred and civil affairs, though some repeat over and over again with the greatest impudence that some advantage accrues to religion from it. "But the death of the soul is worse than freedom of error," as Augustine was wont to say. When all restraints are removed by which men are kept on the narrow path of truth, their nature, which is already inclined to evil, propels them to ruin. Then truly "the bottomless pit" is open from which John saw smoke ascending which obscured the sun, and out of which locusts flew forth to devastate the earth. Thence comes transformation of minds, corruption of youths, contempt of sacred things and holy laws -- in other words, a pestilence more deadly to the state than any other. Experience shows, even from earliest times, that cities renowned for wealth, dominion, and glory perished as a result of this single evil, namely immoderate freedom of opinion, license of free speech, and desire for novelty.

Here We must include that harmful and never sufficiently denounced freedom to publish any writings whatever and disseminate them to the people, which some dare to demand and promote with so great a clamor. We are horrified to see what monstrous doctrines and prodigious errors are disseminated far and wide in countless books, pamphlets, and other writings which, though small in weight, are very great in malice. We are in tears at the abuse which proceeds from them over the face of the earth. Some are so carried away that they contentiously assert that the flock of errors arising from them is sufficiently compensated by the publication of some book which defends religion and truth. Every law condemns deliberately doing evil simply because there is some hope that good may result. Is there any sane man who would say poison ought to be distributed, sold publicly, stored, and even drunk because some antidote is available and those who use it may be snatched from death again and again?

16. The Church has always taken action to destroy the plague of bad books. This was true even in apostolic times for we read that the apostles themselves burned a large number of books. It may be enough to consult the laws of the fifth Council of the Lateran on this matter and the Constitution which Leo X published afterwards lest "that which has been discovered advantageous for the increase of the faith and the spread of useful arts be converted to the contrary use and work harm for the salvation of the faithful." This also was of great concern to the fathers of Trent, who applied a remedy against this great evil by publishing that wholesome decree concerning the Index of books which contain false doctrine. "We must fight valiantly," Clement XIII says in an encyclical letter about the banning of bad books, "as much as the matter itself demands and must exterminate the deadly poison of so many books; for never will the material for error be withdrawn, unless the criminal sources of depravity perish in flames." Thus it is evident that this Holy See has always striven, throughout the ages, to condemn and to remove suspect and harmful books. The teaching of those who reject the censure of books as too heavy and onerous a burden causes immense harm to the Catholic people and to this See. They are even so depraved as to affirm that it is contrary to the principles of law, and they deny the Church the right to decree and to maintain it.

The Christian Brothers of the early-Twentieth Century, you see, like almost all other Catholics, believed that Protestants had the the "civil right" to propagate their heretical notions openly. They did not recognize this as antithetical to the truths that God has entrusted solely to the Catholic Church and as harmful to the eternal good of souls upon which the whole foundation of social order depends. The Christian Brothers, much like the conciliarists of today, acted as though these words, written by Pope Pius IX in Quanta Cura, December 8, 1864, did not apply to the "enlightened": Catholics living in the United States of America:

But, although we have not omitted often to proscribe and reprobate the chief errors of this kind, yet the cause of the Catholic Church, and the salvation of souls entrusted to us by God, and the welfare of human society itself, altogether demand that we again stir up your pastoral solicitude to exterminate other evil opinions, which spring forth from the said errors as from a fountain. Which false and perverse opinions are on that ground the more to be detested, because they chiefly tend to this, that that salutary influence be impeded and (even) removed, which the Catholic Church, according to the institution and command of her Divine Author, should freely exercise even to the end of the world -- not only over private individuals, but over nations, peoples, and their sovereign princes; and (tend also) to take away that mutual fellowship and concord of counsels between Church and State which has ever proved itself propitious and salutary, both for religious and civil interests.

For you well know, venerable brethren, that at this time men are found not a few who, applying to civil society the impious and absurd principle of "naturalism," as they call it, dare to teach that "the best constitution of public society and (also) civil progress altogether require that human society be conducted and governed without regard being had to religion any more than if it did not exist; or, at least, without any distinction being made between the true religion and false ones." And, against the doctrine of Scripture, of the Church, and of the Holy Fathers, they do not hesitate to assert that "that is the best condition of civil society, in which no duty is recognized, as attached to the civil power, of restraining by enacted penalties, offenders against the Catholic religion, except so far as public peace may require." From which totally false idea of social government they do not fear to foster that erroneous opinion, most fatal in its effects on the Catholic Church and the salvation of souls, called by Our Predecessor, Gregory XVI, an "insanity," viz., that "liberty of conscience and worship is each man's personal right, which ought to be legally proclaimed and asserted in every rightly constituted society; and that a right resides in the citizens to an absolute liberty, which should be restrained by no authority whether ecclesiastical or civil, whereby they may be able openly and publicly to manifest and declare any of their ideas whatever, either by word of mouth, by the press, or in any other way." But, while they rashly affirm this, they do not think and consider that they are preaching "liberty of perdition;" and that "if human arguments are always allowed free room for discussion, there will never be wanting men who will dare to resist truth, and to trust in the flowing speech of human wisdom; whereas we know, from the very teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, how carefully Christian faith and wisdom should avoid this most injurious babbling."

And, since where religion has been removed from civil society, and the doctrine and authority of divine revelation repudiated, the genuine notion itself of justice and human right is darkened and lost, and the place of true justice and legitimate right is supplied by material force, thence it appears why it is that some, utterly neglecting and disregarding the surest principles of sound reason, dare to proclaim that "the people's will, manifested by what is called public opinion or in some other way, constitutes a supreme law, free from all divine and human control; and that in the political order accomplished facts, from the very circumstance that they are accomplished, have the force of right." But who, does not see and clearly perceive that human society, when set loose from the bonds of religion and true justice, can have, in truth, no other end than the purpose of obtaining and amassing wealth, and that (society under such circumstances) follows no other law in its actions, except the unchastened desire of ministering to its own pleasure and interests? For this reason, men of the kind pursue with bitter hatred the Religious Orders, although these have deserved extremely well of Christendom, civilization and literature, and cry out that the same have no legitimate reason for being permitted to exist; and thus (these evil men) applaud the calumnies of heretics. For, as Pius VI, Our Predecessor, taught most wisely, "the abolition of regulars is injurious to that state in which the Evangelical counsels are openly professed; it is injurious to a method of life praised in the Church as agreeable to Apostolic doctrine; it is injurious to the illustrious founders, themselves, whom we venerate on our altars, who did not establish these societies but by God's inspiration." And (these wretches) also impiously declare that permission should be refused to citizens and to the Church, "whereby they may openly give alms for the sake of Christian charity"; and that the law should be abrogated "whereby on certain fixed days servile works are prohibited because of God's worship;" and on the most deceptive pretext that the said permission and law are opposed to the principles of the best public economy. Moreover, not content with removing religion from public society, they wish to banish it also from private families. For, teaching and professing the most fatal error of "Communism and Socialism," they assert that "domestic society or the family derives the whole principle of its existence from the civil law alone; and, consequently, that on civil law alone depend all rights of parents over their children, and especially that of providing for education." By which impious opinions and machinations these most deceitful men chiefly aim at this result, viz., that the salutary teaching and influence of the Catholic Church may be entirely banished from the instruction and education of youth, and that the tender and flexible minds of young men may be infected and depraved by every most pernicious error and vice. For all who have endeavored to throw into confusion things both sacred and secular, and to subvert the right order of society, and to abolish all rights, human and divine, have always (as we above hinted) devoted all their nefarious schemes, devices and efforts, to deceiving and depraving incautious youth and have placed all their hope in its corruption. For which reason they never cease by every wicked method to assail the clergy, both secular and regular, from whom (as the surest monuments of history conspicuously attest), so many great advantages have abundantly flowed to Christianity, civilization and literature, and to proclaim that "the clergy, as being hostile to the true and beneficial advance of science and civilization, should be removed from the whole charge and duty of instructing and educating youth."

Long before Joseph Ratzinger sought to disparage the Social Teaching of the Church by using his Hegelian-Modernist method of asserting that truth is only perceived in the mind and is thus subject to varying interpretations as the changing circumstances of men necessitate, the Christian Brothers and others infected with the Americanist heresy were just ignoring this immutable, binding Social Teaching as they extolled in the most extravagant and absurd terms every jot and tittle of the American founding as being compatible with the Catholic Faith. There would never be a law inhibiting the ability of Catholics to practice their Faith? Did the Christian Brothers consider the Constitution of the United States of America to have been received from the very hand of God Himself and that those who served in its government would be endowed with the charisms of infallibility and impeccability?

The damage done to the young souls who were taught how to read by means of this heretical transposition of what belongs to God and to Catholic Church to the founding principles of this secular, religiously indifferentist "republic" is on full display today when one considers it influences pro-abortion and "pro-life" Catholics at the present time into viewing themselves and the country strictly through the lens of Americanism rather than through the eyes of the true Faith. Generations of American Catholics have been taught nationalist lies, which are being reaffirmed by the scions of the counterfeit church of conciliarism, an agency that rejects the Social Reign of Christ the King and exalts the very proposition, separation of Church and State, that was condemned by pope after pope until 1958 and thereafter.

Yes, as Pope Leo XIII noted in Libertas, June 20, 1888, the Catholic Church does make accommodations to the reality of particular circumstances. She wants her children to do the best they can in the actual circumstances in which they find themselves. She insists, however, that Catholics who find themselves in pluralist states never stop striving for the ideals of the Catholic Faith, always seeking to plant the seeds for the restoration of all things in Christ the King and Mary our Immaculate Queen, never conceding that they must think and speak and act as naturalists in order to combat the evils produced by naturalism, which have been made possible by the Protestant Revolt and the subsequent rise of Judeo-Masonry and the plethora of political ideologies and "philosophies" claiming to possess the means to save men and their nations, if not the world itself.

Apologists for pro-abortion Catholic politicians and for phony "pro-life' politicians have one thing in common, as noted above: they reject Catholicism as the one and only foundation for personal and social order, rejecting, if only by implication (as most are ignorant of the words below), these words of Pope Saint Pius X, contained in Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910:

This, nevertheless, is what they want to do with human society; they dream of changing its natural and traditional foundations; they dream of a Future City built on different principles, and they dare to proclaim these more fruitful and more beneficial than the principles upon which the present Christian City rests.

No, Venerable Brethren, We must repeat with the utmost energy in these times of social and intellectual anarchy when everyone takes it upon himself to teach as a teacher and lawmaker - the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants. omnia instaurare in Christo.

Catholics in the United States of America have been denied, at least for the most part, with access to the Catholic Church's immutable Social Teaching, which, of course, has been rejected almost en toto by the conciliarists, who might leave some parts of Pope Leo XIII's Rerum Novarum, May 15, 1891, and Pope Pius XI's Quadragesimo Anno, May 15, 1931, intact now and again. It is as though Catholics have been separated from the authentic, perennial teaching of the Catholic Church the way that Saint Eustachius (or Eustace) had been separated from his family, seeing his wife taken captive by a pagan sea captain and his two sons taken by wild beasts. We must implore Saint Eustachius, therefore, that Catholics are reunited with the perennial teaching of the true Church just as he was reunited with his wife and two sons before they were martyred by the Emperor Hadrian after they refused to engage in the sort of pagan sacrifice that might be hailed by Joseph Ratzinger as something "sacred" (see Mount Hiei, Japan, where false worship is offered to false gods; no, I will never let this one rest; the honor of God must be defended!).

Our Lady will provide us with the path out of the nightmare produced by the inter-related, anti-Incarnational errors of Modernity and Modernism. She stands vigil at her Divine Son's tomb following His Mystical Death and Burial at the hands of the conciliarists. We must be earnest, therefore, about making reparation for our own many sins to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through her own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, recognizing, as the scions of Modernity and Modernism do not, that each human problem is caused remotely by Original Sin and proximately by Actual Sin, meaning that there is no secular, naturalistic, constitutional, legal, political, electoral, inter-denominational or non-denominational way to resolve any personal or social problems. Our acts of reparation, united with prayer before the Blessed Sacrament and through Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary, will help to plant the seeds for the day when more and more people will awaken to the truths of the Faith and cast aside the lies of Modernity and Modernism, embracing the Catholic Faith and seeing to it that it permeates every aspect of civil law and popular culture as they exclaim:

Vivat Christus Rex! Viva Cristo Rey! Vivat Maria Regina Immaculata!

Omnia instaurare in Christo.

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us!

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our deaths. Amen.

The Longer Version of the Saint Michael the Archangel Prayer, composed by Pope Leo XIII, 1888

O glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, be our defense in the terrible warfare which we carry on against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, spirits of evil.  Come to the aid of man, whom God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil.  Fight this day the battle of our Lord, together with  the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in heaven.  That cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels.  Behold this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage.  Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the Name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay, and cast into eternal perdition, souls destined for the crown of eternal glory.  That wicked dragon pours out. as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.  These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on Her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck the sheep may be scattered.  Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory.  They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.  Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church.  Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations.  Amen.

Verse: Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.

Response: The Lion of the Tribe of Juda has conquered the root of David.

Verse: Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.

Response: As we have hoped in Thee.

Verse: O Lord hear my prayer.

Response: And let my cry come unto Thee.

Verse: Let us pray.  O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as suppliants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin, immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all other unclean spirits, who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of our souls.

Response:  Amen.
