Any Day Now

by Thomas A. Droleskey

One of the most famous Federal Express television commercials from the early-1980s featured the owner of a shipping company on the telephone assuring a customer that his package would arrive at its destination "any day now." Standing behind the owner the shipping company were two workers who were throwing a medicine ball back and forth, having nothing other to do with their time. Another version of the "any day now" commercial showed one of the workers, played by the late Paul Walker, a cousin of a schoolmate of mine from Oyster Bay High School, throwing darts at a dartboard while the owner was on the telephone assuring a customer that the delivery of his package would take place "any day now."

Well, High Anglicans are notorious for threatening to do something "any day now" about the ways in which their more "liberal" brethren have departed from "traditional" teachings over the years. These threats have been mostly hallow, although there have been moments when some prominent "high church" Anglicans have converted to the true Faith, especially during the Oxford Movement of the Nineteenth Century.

Most Anglo-Catholics, as they like to call themselves, have convinced themselves that their false "church" is indeed one of the three great "pillars" of Christendom, the other two being the Roman Catholic Church and the heretical and schismatic Orthodox churches. This special brand of hubris is a rather prominent feature of the English, of course. It couldn't possibly be the case that the Anglican "church" is no church at all, that it has no true bishops and no true priests, hence has no true Eucharist and no true absolution of Mortal Sins committed, and that it, the Anglican "church," has no authority from the Second Person of the Blessed made man in the Virginal and Immaculate Womb of His Most Blessed Mother to teach anything in His Holy Name. No, English pride can't admit that the "party" has been over since King Henry VIII took Catholic England out of the true Church in 1534 and since his daughter, Queen Elizabeth I, did so for good in 1560.

Many Anglo-Catholics really do believe, of course, that the Anglican "church" is a real, legitimate church, perhaps not the one and only true Church, but a true "church" nevertheless, equal in authority and history to the Catholic Church and the Orthodox churches. It is this false belief that causes them to hesitate when some particularly egregious novelty is advanced by their liberal or progressivist brethren. They believe that they can "hold their noses" and swim against the progressivist tide as long as they maintain the "bells and whistles" of the High Anglican liturgy--and as long as they can retain their titles and parsonages. After all, you can't be expected to give up all this just over an internicene battle in one of the "three pillars" of Christendom, now can you ?

Ah, but it is precisely that false line of reasoning that caused many Catholics in the Sixteenth Century to defect the Faith and to go along with the breaks with the true Church. caused by Henry Tudor and his daughter Elizabeth. After all, one can't be serious about this business of giving up his life for the Faith. There are more important duties, you know, starting with our "duty" to our king or our queen and to our "national" traditions. We can't be "traitors" to England, of all things. Let's be "reasonable" about all of this.

Indeed, the high degree of tolerance that Anglo-Catholics have exhibited in the face of progressivists has been parodied in a number of ways, including in the following set of conversations between and Anglican "priest" and his wife before and after a decennial Lambeth Committee meeting:

Before the Lambeth Committee meeting:

Anglican "priest:" If the liberals do one more thing, just more thing, I'm converting to Catholicism."

Wife: "Well, you said that when the liberals gave you women priests."

Anglican "priest." It's different now. No more. I've reached my limit. No more compromises."

After the Lambeth Committee meeting:

Wife: "What did they did this time?"

Anglican "priest:"  "I'd rather not say."

Wife: "Was it really that bad?"

Anglican "priest:" Yes, about the worst."

Wife: "What did they do?"

Anglican priest: "Instituted a feast in honor of the adversary. (Long pause). I tell you, if they do one more thing I'm converting to Catholicism, do you hear me?"

And thus it has ever been with most of the High Anglicans, who consider themselves defenders of a "tradition" that was born in a bloody rebellion started by an lustful, adulterous and bigamous king against the true Church that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Himself founded upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope. It's rather cheeky to consider yourself a defender of "Christian tradition" when you belong to a false church founded on the blood upon over 72,000 Catholics who remained faithful to the true Church rather than to keep their property or their titles or their very lives. The logical "disconnect" in all of this is quite obvious to all except the High Anglicans, ever content to beat their breasts to prove how superior and "faithful" they are in comparison to their Low Church, progressivist cousins.

Protestantism, of course, breeds logical disconnects, if you will. Most Protestants, save for those whose ancestors from Africa or Asia were "converted" to some Protestant sect from paganism or barbarism, have Catholic ancestors in their family trees. Most Protestants are, however, totally unaware of this fact. "History" begins for them in 1517 and thereafter. What happened before 1517 must be distorted by Protestant and Judeo-Masonic "historians" to make of true history a blood sport for the justification of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King as it must be exercised exclusively by the Catholic Church and the ruin for souls wrought in its wake. Those who are taught this distorted view of history wind up making the most absurd comments imaginable.

To wit, Jonathan Boucher, a Anglican preacher in England and in the Colony of Virginia in the years before the Revolutionary War in the Eighteenth Century, argued in very eloquent terms against a break of the thirteen English colonies from the British Crown by reminding his listeners that true freedom comes only from Our Blessed Lord and Saviour. (See: Jonathan Boucher: On Civil Liberty, Passive Obedience, and Nonresistance.) Boucher made some very fine points in his sermon, which should be studied if for no other reason that to realize that there was some effort made by "conservative" colonists to stem the tide of rebellion and to prevent a war for "independence."

Boucher, who sometimes packed two single-shot pistols and kept them in his pulpit when he preached so that "patriots" would not attack him, argued against what could be called "liberation theology," urging Anglicans and other colonists to accept whatever sufferings were being imposed by King George III and to offer them up to God, stating that one should not seek to rebel from the authority which God has seen fit in His Providence to provide for the governance of men. The "disconnect" of Protestantism was such, however, that Boucher could not see that his own false "church" was born in a rebellion against the true authority given by God Himself over men in the form of the Church that He created upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope. It was incongruous to argue that a rebellion against civil authority was unjust when one's very "church" was created as a result of a rebellion against God Himself.

Similarly, of course, some of the High Anglicans of today, upset that a vote in favor of the "ordination" of women to the false "episcopate" claimed by the Anglican "church," are hesitant to embrace what they think is the Catholic Church as they "want to work within the structures" of their false church for a "little longer" to see what influence they could have on the course of events. A true Catholic pope would say to these "High Anglicans" the following:

Please stay where you are in your false church, created by a bloodthirsty tyrant, if you are not convinced that the Catholic Church is the true Church created by God Himself. There will be no deals, no concessions. You must convert unconditionally to the true Faith because you believe it to be the true Faith. You must abjure your errors. You must make a profession of Faith in the teachings of the Catholic Church without any exception or reservation whatsoever. We will welcome you with great joy at that time. If you, however, delay your conversion because of human considerations of man-made "traditions" that are contrary to the Deposit of Faith, including the existence of a false church that has no right to exist, you are placing your immortal souls in grave, grave peril. Conversion to the true Church is never done for reasons of state, for reasons of convenience or expediency. Conversion to the true Church must take place as a result of the belief that outside of the Catholic Church there is no salvation, and that you must leave the path that does not guarantee for you the safe harbor of salvation.

Pope Pius IX put the matter this way to Protestants in Iam Vos Omnes, September 13, 1868:

It is for this reason that so many who do not share “the communion and the truth of the Catholic Church” must make use of the occasion of the Council, by the means of the Catholic Church, which received in Her bosom their ancestors, proposes [further] demonstration of profound unity and of firm vital force; hear the requirements [demands] of her heart, they must engage themselves to leave this state that does not guarantee for them the security of salvation. She does not hesitate to raise to the Lord of mercy most fervent prayers to tear down of the walls of division, to dissipate the haze of errors, and lead them back within holy Mother Church, where their Ancestors found salutary pastures of life; where, in an exclusive way, is conserved and transmitted whole the doctrine of Jesus Christ and wherein is dispensed the mysteries of heavenly grace.

Most of the High Anglicans just want to be "left alone" to their bells and whistles and parsonages. Most of them are perfectly content to be in a cacophonous assembly of voices, which is why those who do wind up "converting" to the counterfeit church of conciliarism at this time, however many or few in number they may be, will fit right in with those in the Motu world, forging with the Motu maniacs a veritable "high church" federation within the confines of the One World Church. Indeed, would those Anglo-Catholics (or High Anglicans) who desire to "convert" to their new home in the One World Church represented by the counterfeit church of conciliarism be forced to relinquish their belief in and/or practice of contraception? There's been no talk of that, has there?

"Converted" Anglo-Catholics would have their own "Anglican use" liturgy while those "attached" to the increasingly more modernized versions of the Immemorial Mass of Tradition (excuse me, "extraordinary form of the Roman Rite; perhaps we will see "Extraordinary Form Magazine" one day soon, replete with photographs menorahs and copies of the Koran which readers could touch with the same esteem and joy shown by Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI on April 17, 2008, in Washington, District of Columbia) would have their own little corner in the One World Church of conciliarism. Oh, yes, as noted two days ago in Duh, "converted" Anglicans would join those in the Motu world and "conservative" Novus Ordoites at the same time that the representatives of Focolare and the Cursillo and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and the Neocatechumenal Way (and loads of other such groups) sell their own wares at such assemblies of Baal as World Youth day.

The Anglican "church" is composed of a worldwide "communion" of people who disagree about basic tenets of Christianity. In like manner, however, the counterfeit church of conciliarism is composed of a "communion" of nearly a billion people who are not required, at least in a de facto manner, to believe the one and the same Faith of our fathers. Those who dissent from articles contained in the Deposit of Faith are promoted as "bishops" and left to serve as "priests" for years on end. Public officials, whether Catholic or not, are given "papal" knighthoods despite supporting the destruction of innocent preborn children in their mothers' wombs. "Cardinals" close to Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, such as Christoph Schonborn, the conciliar "archbishop" of Vienna, Austria, did this recently. What's the big deal? Ratzinger/Benedict himself conferred such knighthood upon a pro-abortion Talmudic rabbi, Leon Klenicki, in 2005. "Converted" Anglicans will find almost all of the the same problems in the counterfeit church of conciliarism as the ones that prompted them to leave their "hallowed" Anglican "church." They will have gained nothing for their salvation. Nothing.

"Converted" Anglicans might take comfort in the fact that they have a number of new "hand-wringers" with which they can now commiserate. Oh, yes, sure, there are those in the Motu world, including "priests" in some of the Motu communities, who no doubt  murmur behind closed doors about the apostasies of the moment. Some might even say to each other, "If Benedict does one more thing, if he dares put into question the infallibility of Apostolicae Curae, 'm calling Bishop Dolan or Bishop McKenna or Bishop Pivarunas or Bishop Sanborn or Bishop Neville. I'm out of here." "If John Paul II gets 'canonized,' that's it. I'm 'outta here.' Gary Cohen, call your office." These murmured words will give momentary vent to concerns that will never be expressed publicly, which is why those Anglo-Catholics who do "convert" to another deck of the Titanic that is the One World Church will have a ready support network to assist them in their complaints against their new superiors.

I used to say "any day now" when complaining about this or that conciliar offense against God. I even kept silent about some things in the 1980s as I continued, most delusionally, I should add, my own sensus Catholicus into the mind and the heart of Karol Wojtyla/John Paul II. (See: Singing the Old Songs.) My "day" came, at least insofar as thinking that the liturgical abuse par excellence, the Protestant and Masonic Novus Ordo service, was salvageable was when permission was granted for "altar girls" 151 months ago now. It was a matter of time after that before the remaining self-imposed blinders were removed so that I could, by the graces won for us on the wood of the Holy Cross by the shedding of every single drop of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, see more clearly than ever before that those who defect from the Catholic Faith on even one point expel themselves from the bosom of Holy Mother Church. And no one who does not believe that Catholicism alone is the one and only foundation of social order is a member of the Catholic Church in good standing.

We indeed must pray for the conversion of all men to the true Church, which is found now in the catacombs where no concessions are made to conciliarism or to its false shepherds. Catholics don't make deals on matters of Faith and morals to win converts. Catholics pray to the Mother of God through her Most Holy Rosary with urgency for the unconditional conversion of all men everywhere to the true Church, doing so as they make reparation for their own sins and those of the whole world to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart.

We must never lose sight of the fact that our own end could come "any day now," indeed, any time now. We should be ready at all times to render an account of our lives, making sure to pray as many Rosaries each day as our states-in-life permit as we protect ourselves with the Brown Scapular and Our Lady's Miraculous Medal. We really do want Our Lady to pray for us, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. We want her as our Advocate now and at the hour of our death, and she will indeed advocate our cause at the moment of our Particular Judgments if we remain faithful to her Divine Son without compromise and without fear of the loss of human respect as we work for the restoration of the Church and for that of Christendom itself.
