A "Tradition" That is Ever-Changing

by Thomas A. Droleskey

Revolutionaries are so proud that they love to publish their contempt for all that has gone before their own "enlightened" ideas. This published contempt for all that has gone before them is coupled with a very reasonable expectation on the part of revolutionaries that their adversaries will do everything possible to deny that they, the revolutionaries, actually mean to implement their ideas. Revolutionaries, therefore, become emboldened to believe that at least some of their adversaries will serve as their enablers, going so far, it is hoped, as to convince themselves into believing that the revolutionaries really do not believe in what they have published, that they, the revolutionaries, will be willing to bend a bit here and there in order to avoid a general overthrow of the past.

The authors of the General Instruction to the Roman Missal, the document that is supposed to govern the offering of the sacrilegious abomination known as the Novus Ordo Missae, have given us a wonderful roadmap to the true intentions of the revolutionaries who concocted and have sustained the Protestant and Masonic worship service for the new, counterfeit religion of conciliarism. Although I presumed, quite mistakenly, the validity of the Novus Ordo Missae in G.I.R.M. Warfare, I did, however, point out the true revolutionary character of the Novus Ordo Missae and how it is offensive to God and thus harmful to the souls for whom He shed every single drop of His Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross. The General Instruction to the Roman Missal tells us quite plainly that those who concocted the synthetic entity known as the Novus Ordo Missae sought to by referring now and again to "tradition" as they sought to institutionalize a complete and total revolution against the authentic tradition of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church.

Paragraph 15 of the General Instruction to the Roman Missal is one of the keys to understanding the truly revolutionary character of the Novus Ordo Missae:

"Thus the Church remains faithful in its responsibility as a teacher of truth to guard 'things old,' that is, the deposit of tradition; at the same time it fulfills another duty, that of examining and prudently bringing forth 'things new.'

"Accordingly, a part of the new Roman Missal directs the prayer of the Church expressly to the needs of our times. This is above all true of the ritual Masses and the Masses for various needs and occasions, which happily combine the traditional and the contemporary. Thus many expressions, drawn from the Church's most ancient tradition and familiar through the many editions of the Roman Missal, have remained unchanged. Other expressions, however, have been adapted to today's needs and circumstances and still others-for example, the prayers for the Church, the laity, the sanctification of human work, the community of all peoples, certain needs proper to our era-are completely new compositions, drawing on the thoughts and even the very language of the recent conciliar documents.

"The same awareness of the present state of the world also influenced the use of texts from very ancient tradition. It seemed that this cherished treasure would not be harmed if some phrases were changed so that the style of language would be more in accord with the language of modern theology and would faithfully reflect the actual state of the Church's discipline. Thus there have been changes of some expressions bearing on the evaluation and use of the good things of the earth and of allusions to a particular form of outward penance belonging to another age in the history of the Church.

"In short, the liturgical norms of the Council of Trent have been completed and improved in many respects by those of the Second Vatican Council. The Council has brought to realization the efforts of the last four hundred years to move the faithful closer to the sacred liturgy, especially the efforts of recent times and above all the zeal for the liturgy promoted by Saint Pius X and his successors."

Ah, yes, the Hegelian mind of Modernism is clearly at work in this paragraph, is it not? An unprecedented liturgical novelty is justified on the grounds that the "Church" is guarding the "deposit of tradition" while at the same time "examining and prudently bringing forth 'things new.'" Unfortunately for the enablers of the liturgical and doctrinal revolutions that have devastated the lives of so many millions of Catholics in the past forty years, there is no precedent in the history of the Catholic Church for the gutting of the Roman Rite (or any of Holy Mother Church's other liturgical rites) and replacing it with a product that was overseen by a Freemason and engineered with the help of six liberal Protestant "observers," men who made their "observations" in coffee breaks and then sat silent as the bishop-members of the Consilium read those "observations" into the official record as their own. There is no precedent for "prudently bringing forth" "new" "Eucharistic prayers" to replace the Roman Canon. There is no precedent for the changing of prayers, yes, even in the Latin editio typica of the Novus Ordo Missae, for the feast days of the saints to remove references to miracles that "modern man" could not accept as having occurred, meaning that the Catholic Church was wrong to have included such references. There is no precedent prior to the false pontificate of Angelo Roncalli for what became institutionalized under the Novus Ordo Missae, namely, the suppression of the feast days of saints who were said to be "legendary." There was thus no precedent for the absolute devastation of belief in the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament and of belief in the sacrificial nature of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that occurred logically as a result of the entire ethos of the Novus Ordo Missae and the new religion which brought it forth and which it sustains by its own abominations and sacrileges.

Much analysis of all of this has been offered by well-trained theologians over the past four decades. Patrick Henry Omlor's review of the invalidity of the Novus Ordo Missae, including its "Eucharistic prayers," helped the late Father James Wathen to write The Great Sacrilege. Others, including Father Paul Trinchard, have reviewed the invalidity of the Novus Ordo Missae quite extensively. As I noted in a commentary a few days ago, As Always, It's Christ or Chaos in Souls and in the World, the fact that most Catholics today support various social evils and are quite content to participate in the abominations of the counterfeit religion of conciliarism is the result in large part, although certainly not exclusively, of their being deprived of a true Mass and true sacraments, to say nothing of true bishops and true priests (the latter of which is a phenomenon that afflicts many Catholics in the world of the "indult" offerings of the modernized, 1962 version of the Immemorial Mass of Tradition).

Revolutionary novelty, however, breeds revolutionary novelty. The General Instruction to the Roman Missal makes the Novus Ordo Missae a breeding ground for a never-ending series of revolutionary novelties, as been seen in the proliferation of "Eucharistic prayers" from four in 1969 to as many as ten in some countries, such as the United States of America, where the conciliar bishops have received the approval of the Vatican in Modernist captivity to compose "Eucharistic prayers" for "children's Masses" and for "reconciliation." There are three "Eucharistic prayers" for children's Masses (see: Eucharistic Prayers for Masses with Children I - III) and two for "reconciliation" (see: Eucharistic Prayers for Reconciliation I-II). There are also four other "Eucharistic prayers," derived from the now infamous "Swiss Synod Eucharistic Prayer," for "various needs" (see:Eucharistic Prayers for Various Needs and Occasions I - IV). Among those "other" needs are (1) "The Church on the Way to Unity," which means, once again for the slow learners out there, that the Mark of Unity does not exist in the Church of Christ that is the Catholic Church; (2) "God Guides the Church on the Way to Salvation;" (3) "Jesus, Way to the Father;" and (4) "Jesus, the Compassion of God."

These facts are readily available. Indeed, I had known about the "nine" "Eucharistic prayers" personally from my years of unfortunate involvement in the Novus Ordo world, suffering through a variety of "offerings" this abomination throughout the United States and Canada before withdrawing from that world of confusion and sacrilege and ceaseless revolutionary novelty and change. I must admit, however, that I had not known until doing a bit of review of the facts for this article that the so-called "Swiss Synod Eucharistic Prayer," which was composed in 1974 and received approbation from the Modernists in the Vatican in 1994 for use universally in the counterfeit church conciliarism, served as the basis of four additional "Eucharistic prayers," bringing the total number of such "approved" "prayers" in the United States of America to thirteen. Any talk of a stable liturgical rite, even absent an admission of the Novus Ordo Missae's invalidity, that is capable of communicating the immutability and transcendence of the Blessed Trinity is absurd in the context of the synthetic novelty known as the Novus Ordo Missae.

Thus it is that the ludicrous hysteria about a "fifth" "Eucharistic prayer," one composed for use by the conciliar bishops of Brazil, demonstrates once again that so many Catholics simply have not familiarized themselves with the facts of liturgical pluralism in the Novus Ordo Missae. As noted above, there are far more than "five" "Eucharistic prayers." Naturally, it helps the revolutionary's cause when one of conciliarism's false pontiffs uses these "newer" compositions in the context of "papal" "Masses," as Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI has done during his ongoing visit to Brazil. Indeed, "Archbishop" Piero Marini, a direct acolyte of the Freemason Annibale Bugnini, continues to use these extravaganza "Masses" as a means to establish precedents for the rest of the world. It is Marini who orchestrated the abominable spectacles that took place during the years of Karol Wojtyla/John Paul II (pagan rituals incorporated into the context of allegedly "papal" "Masses," half-naked tribesmen serving as lectors and "gift-bearers," paraliturgical dances, the use of "hard rock" music, as occurred at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1995, among many other such novelties). Marini boasted in 2003 that he had indeed planned these spectacles to serve as "models" for how to "inculturate the Gospel" into the "liturgy" (as per Paragraph 395 of the General Instruction to the Roman Missal). The fact that Joseph Ratzinger used a "Eucharistic prayer" other than the revised Roman Canon (now called "Eucharistic Prayer I") and the three "original" Novus Ordo compositions ("Eucharistic prayers" II, III and IV) is simply not today's news. It is so much yesterday's news, nothing at all out of the ordinary in the ever-changing "tradition" of the Novus Ordo Missae and the counterfeit church of conciliarism. And this is to say nothing about the fact that Ratzinger himself approved of a so-called "Eucharistic prayer" in a Assyrian rite liturgy that contains no words of consecration! The celebrant kind of "immanentizes" the consecration. There is no precedent for any of this in the history of the Catholic Church.

Indeed, the silly talk about "Eucharistic Prayer 'V'" shows how completely successful the revolutionaries have been in obscuring the minds of so many Catholics about the truth of our situation. The existence of nine "Eucharistic prayers" in the conciliar structures in the United States of America has not been a state secret. Anyone with access to what is called in the new order of things a "Sacramentary" can look up these "prayers." As one who has lived through their recitation, ladies and gentlemen, I can tell you that is is painful beyond all words to have to endure such insipid Modernist theology and liturgical praxis.

An authentic offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is not supposed to disturb or agitate our souls. It is meant to convey the solemnity and sacredness of the offering made voluntarily by the Son to the Father in Spirit and in Truth on the wood of the Holy Cross to redeem us. It is meant to be a foretaste of the glories of Heaven, which is why it is not meant to enshrine the fads and novelties of this passing world. God exists outside of time and space. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, being at one and the same time the unbloody representation of the Sacrifice of the Cross and foretaste of eternal glories, permits us who live in time to be present mystically at Calvary itself as we are joined by each of the members of the Church Triumphant in Heaven and the Church Suffering in Purgatory. Ceaseless change and novelty bewilders the faithful and turns the "liturgy" into a spectacle that offends God and undermines the Faith of ordinary Catholics.

Steeped in their own pride, Modernists believe that nearly everything about the Faith has to be "reformed" in order to suit the needs of the mythical person known as "modern man." Catholics and others who are steeped in the ways of the world have not been drawn to the Faith as a result of the "liturgical renewal. Indeed, they have responded with complete and total diffidence to conciliarism's effort to appeal to them. It is only the Immemorial Mass of Tradition of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church that appeals to man's deep and abiding need to worship God in reverence and solemnity, preparing him with devotion and recollection to receive God Himself under the appearance of bread and wine in Holy Communion. A synthetic "faith," the product of shopworn revolutionary canards, has emptied Catholic parishes and driven countless numbers of Catholics in the waiting arms of various evangelical and fundamentalist Protestant heretics and schismatics (others have been driven into the arms of the schismatic and heretical Orthodox).

It is difficult enough to get to Heaven without having to fight losing battles endlessly in the context of what purports to be an offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It is difficult enough to try to cooperate with Sanctifying Grace as the consecrated slaves of Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart on a daily basis without having to plot "strategies" to make an abominable sacrilege more "palatable." It is difficult enough to fight the forces of the world, the flesh and the devil in the midst of a pluralistic society without having to fight those forces in the structures of a counterfeit church that has robbed most Catholics of true bishops and true priests and true sacraments. God wants us to experience His ineffable peace in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. There is no peace to be had in the Novus Ordo Missae if one knows the Catholic Faith and understands that synthetic concoction has eviscerated and profaned the worship of God.

Those who are waiting, interminably, it appears, for the much-vaunted and needless "universal indult" for the offering of the modernized version of the Immemorial Mass of Tradition are under a good deal of pressure at the present time to "lowball" criticism of the Novus Ordo Missae and its novelties. Even "priests" in the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter and the Institute of Christ the King who loathe the Novus Ordo (and I knew such priests personally in my years as an indulterer) cannot speak openly of their loathing. They have been neutralized. This is happening at present in the world of the Society of Saint Pius X as things, such as the Modernist Vatican "survey" of conciliar bishops to determine if there are passages from Sacred Scripture that are being used to foment "anti-Semitism," that would have elicited at least some public comment from the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre go without any direct criticism or comment from the Society's current Superior General, Bishop Bernard Fellay. There is no talk about the proliferation of "Eucharistic prayers," especially at "papal Masses," only efforts to "prove" that scholarly research on the invalidity of the 1968 conciliar "rite" of "episcopal consecration" is erroneous and that the conciliar bishops are unquestionably valid bishops who have ordained unquestionably valid priests. The neutralization of yet another band of Catholics is well underway.

In the midst of the well-conceived plans of revolutionaries to win over as many Catholics as possible to their Hegelian, Modernist ways, we must cleave to true bishops and true priests in the Catholic catacombs who make no concessions to conciliarism or to the legitimacy of the "officials" of the counterfeit church of conciliarism. Listen to the daily sermons about the lives of the saints given by His Excellency Bishop Daniel Dolan at Traditional Catholic Sermons Home. Read the excellent apologetics material found at Traditional Latin Mass Resources and CMRI Index (Religious Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen, Latin Mass) and Catholic Restoration Home Page and Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel - Monroe, Connecticut and The Daily Catholic. Purchase and read and reflect upon the solid historical and theological information contained in Tumultuous Times by Frs. Francisco and Dominic Radecki, CMRI. Flee from the counterfeit church of conciliarism and take refuge in the peace of Catholicism in the Catholic underground where bishops and priests recognize that the Catholic Church cannot be the author of the errors and novelties of the past forty years, where there is an abiding commitment to the Social Reign of Christ the King and Mary our Immaculate Queen.

As we offer as many Rosaries each day as our states-in-life permit, may we understand that the jaws of Hell will never prevail against the Catholic Church. This does not mean that the devil is not going to win a few battles now and again. It does mean, however, that the Catholic Faith will be preserved against all apostasies and betrayals. Our Lady will see to it that those apostasies and betrayals, including that of the Novus Ordo Missae, are eradicated once and for all when she makes manifest the Triumph of her Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart so that we can give honor and glory through that Immaculate Heart to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, fulfilling the establishment once again of the Catholic City as prophesied by Pope Saint Pius X in Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910:

No, Venerable Brethren, We must repeat with the utmost energy in these times of social and intellectual anarchy when everyone takes it upon himself to teach as a teacher and lawmaker - the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants. omnia instaurare in Christo.

The Catholic City and the Immemorial Mass of Tradition go hand-in-hand, which is why the revolutionaries, who reject and despise the Social Reign of Christ the King, are intent to hold onto their ossified abominations that are of the essence of their One World Church. We must simply live the Faith as it has been handed down to us over the centuries, never fearing the names we will be called and the material price we must pay in this passing, mortal vale of tears for our fidelity to what Catholics have always believed and how Catholics of the Roman Rite have always worshiped. We must beseech Our Lady for the day when all Catholics will believe and worship as Catholics have always believed and worshiped, consigning the ever-changing false "traditions" of conciliarism to the Orwellian memory hole forever.

The Longer Version of the Saint Michael the Archangel Prayer, composed by Pope Leo XIII, 1888

O glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, be our defense in the terrible warfare which we carry on against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, spirits of evil.  Come to the aid of man, whom God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil.  Fight this day the battle of our Lord, together with  the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in heaven.  That cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels.  Behold this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage.  Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the Name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay, and cast into eternal perdition, souls destined for the crown of eternal glory.  That wicked dragon pours out. as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.  These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on Her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck the sheep may be scattered.  Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory.  They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.  Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church.  Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations.  Amen.

Verse: Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.

Response: The Lion of the Tribe of Juda has conquered the root of David.

Verse: Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.

Response: As we have hoped in Thee.

Verse: O Lord hear my prayer.

Response: And let my cry come unto Thee.

Verse: Let us pray.  O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as suppliants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin, immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all other unclean spirits, who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of our souls.

Response:  Amen.
